David has asked me to start version 2 of the thread as the original version has more than 2500 posts already.

Please post your discussion concerning the iPhone Jailbreaking in this thread. I assume David will be closing the V1 thread once this one is up and running. I will put in some of the initial posts which is extremely informative from the previous thread as well (I hope samlee860407 is okay with that)

Credit goes to David and samlee860407 for their initial posts in version 1 of the thread.

From version 1 of the thread

1. ALL A4 devices and older can be jailbroken untethered on the latest iOS 5.0.1

Below are the Guides for each iPhone devices.

How to Perform an Untethered Jailbreak of Your iPhone 3GS (Mac) [5.0.1]

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool (Mac) [5.0.1]

For those who do not wish to re-restore their iPhone since they are already on the iOS 5.0.1 tethered/semi-tethered jailbreak, The Chrinic Dev-Team has released an untethered jailbreak via a Cydia Tweak called Corona. Please find below the Guide on how to do it

How to Untether Your Previously Tethered Jailbreak Using Corona [5.0.1]

A lot of the time when you need to jailbreak, you will need to download a fresh iPhone Stock firmware (DO NOT TOUCH THESE KIND OF FIRMWARE IF YOU ARE USING A LOCKED SET!!!!!)

You can find the location of the files in the link below

Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From

One of the most used jailbreaking tool is redsn0w and below is the link where you can download whatever version of redsn0w you want

Where to Download RedSn0w From

I will try and keep this OP updated from time to time.

Happy Jailbreaking!!!

guys,sorry for the noob question
how to jb using jailbreakme ?
anyone mind to teach ?
thanks

If your firmware is susceptible to the jailbreakme exploit, then ALL you have to do is use your safari in your iPhone and visit the jailbreak me website

http://www.jailbreakme.com

You should be able to see a toggle that says Cydia with an install button. Click on that button and you're good to go

The exploit works for firmware 4.3.3 and below.

Manual installation always works for me, I do the same thing where I write down all the Cydia apps I have and I install those things again one by one. Pkgbackup is crap. Never worked for me. What a waste of money. Some people say it works perfectly for them, it doesn't for me (I suspect there are incompatibilities somewhere)

I believe all the Cydia settings falls under "Other" in your iPhone and when you backed it up, the settings are also saved (just like the game saves, or any of the app settings)

I know that whenever I do a restore, all my PocketMoney files (which is super important to me) are also restored once the apps is re-installed (if the re-sync does not install it properly) so the iPhone saved those data somewhere and when the appropriate apps or tweaks is installed, it is automatically connected back.

I believe you have to pay for dreamboard while winterboard is free.

Guys, please keep the thread clean. As mentioned in the 1st Post, No Piracy Discussion is allowed. We jailbreak to free our iPhone to allow us to do all these great things like SBSettings and the themes customisation, some of us have other things in mind and those are better kept to yourselves.

You can find very nice step by step guide in iClarified (which the trusted site I always use for any jailbreaking guide)

Here's the guide for iPhone 4

and here'e the guide for iPhone 3Gs

This is for Windows, you can find the same guide for Mac as well on the site.

You should be able to use either redsn0w or greenpoison for the 4.2.1 firmware untethered

The method in the link you given is by modifying host file which will direct iOS restore verification to saurik's server, which only work if saurik's server has your SHSH blob saved previously. So it's the same thing, you NEED SHSH blobs (whether locally or on saurik's server) to restore iOS to the version Apple had officially stopped signing.
*
Ahh this reminds me of the issue when 4.0 came out in modmyi, there were members who we reporting that they managed to downgrade without SHSH. BUT, all their methods required them to point the host file to saurik server which basically means that it requires the method to have SHSH saved somewhere. Turns out for those who were successful, Saurik had their SHSH saved most likely because the iPhone they had was a refurbished unit.

thanks 4 the reply..he had try using the tinyumbrella but unfortunately the shsh blob 4.3.3 is not there..does this mean he cant downgrade to 4.3.3 at all?and he can just do tethered jailbreak for his 4.3.5 right?thanks again..really appreciate ur time answering this silly question  notworthy.gif

Every time the iPhone reboots or respiring, you need to connect the iPhone to the PC that has redsn0w running. Run redsn0w and there is an option to tether boot only (no need to run the entire jb process again). I guess it's not too bad but just need to make sure that he ges out with his battery full and don't go installing any tweaks without having his PC nearby.

Downgrading (4.3.5 to 4.3.3) or upgrading (4.1, 4.2.1 to 4.3.3) or restoring (4.3.3 to 4.3.3) requires you to have the 4.3.3 SHSH saved (either during the time Apple was still signing them via TinyUmbrella) or if Cydia has automatically saved them (which it doesn't do that often so manually save them via TinyUmbrella)

For a guide on how to use TinyUmbrella to downgrade (the guide for upgrade/restore) to a firmware that Apple no longer signs (REMEMBER, you need to have YOUR SHSH already saved!!!), follow the steps as posted in iClarified.com Guide on Downgrading your iPhone Firmware using TinyUmbrella

If you enter an infinite recovery loop, you may need to run fixrecovery (follow the guide as well as it does gives you the link for downloading fixrecovery and the necessary zlib.dll files)

Usually, 1013 error is related to the host file (usually) but without touching your host file (i.e setting your host file to point either to the local server 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com) you cannot get the downgrade working.

This is my recommendation

1. If you have SHSH saved in Cydia, I would save it locally
2. I would edit the host file to have this line 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
3. I would run TU and make sure I have the TSS Server running.

This usually works for me, BUT, I haven't had to downgrade in a loooong time since I NEVER make the mistake of stupidly updating my iPhone. The last time I did it was for my friend when I wanted to upgrade his 3Gs to 4.2.1, other than that it's been a while.

Excellent news!, I'll remember next time to ensure I tick the Update iPhone 4 Baseband box. All of my downgrading work were done on the 3Gs, I have not had the opportunity (nor do i intend to have that opportunity) to do a downgrade/upgrade of the iPhone 4 ...

What does  4.2.1+ mean?

the + sign?
does it mean every firmware version after 4.2?
Coz i did select "make my life easier"
shouldn't cydia download every SHSH for me ?

I don't think so. I think you only have up to 4.2.1. As for the plus signs I'm not sure.

What you can do is download the latest tinyumbrella and set "check SHSH from Cydia" in the Advance Tab. It will retrieve ALL SHSH that Cydia has saved for your iPhone locally. If it has saved the 4.3.3 SHSH, then TU will retrieve it for you. If it did not for one reason or another, then you are out of luck.

I have never done a tethered JB before, just for confirmation sake and info sharing can someone confirm that you will need to reboot tethered

1. If your battery runs out
2. If you reboot your iPhone (i.e installing some tweak in Cydia which requires a reboot)

Can somebody confirm that Respringing does not require you to boot tethered?

respring does not require to boot. smile.gif confirmed.
unless, when ur respringing, ur phone crash(sometimes happens to me)
then you will have to boot tethered with ur pc.
*
Thanks for the info .... then it's not so bad to do a tethered JB coz a lot of the time it's the re-springing that you do most often. Reboots only if you install some of the Cydia tweaks.

Aiyooo. Jailbreak for 4.3.5 is out BUT it is a tethered jailbreak. If you are looking for 4.3.5 untethered jailbreak, that won't be released.
