Well, there where two major crashes when I was in market. I've survived the dot com bust in 00/01 and housing bubble crash in 08/09.
My portfolio took quite a beating in 00/01 but in 08/09, I rode the bear and bulls later when it recovers.
Everything came back more than double.  So, no fear.  biggrin.gif

My concern is if the broker closes down/bankrupt, will you lose your money?

That is what SIPC is for.. if the broker bankrupt, you're guarantee for all the shares (amt not worth) that you've bought.

Added on October 28, 2011, 9:50 amAfter hours, LVS reported its 3Q earnings.

0.55c vs 0.52c estimates (beat by 3c)
2.41bln vs 2.34bln (beat by 0.07bln) rclxms.gif

Market likes this!! We're going back up!

Honglun: if you're still holding this.. watch for that $50 mark again. Don't miss this time to take profits.

I'm on my 3rd rotation now for LVS. Going to ride 'em all the way. biggrin.gif

My hands were shaking when trying to CLICK BUY/LONG @ 40 couples of days back. The options for $50 looks juicy...

thumbup.gif it was great! the bear moan & moan since 1300, "I wanna be a bull", we went high together to 1480 wub.gif
indeed it was a great FUG. It was unprotected fugging all the way and took a medium risk playing call options
no balls to play high risk ie. futures laugh.gif

I m looking to gamble on some shorts/ puts option, taking a look over the weekend, due to the sudden dog jones spike
"not uncommon for stocks to suddenly spike up in a straight shot with heavy volume and then stop, roll at the top, exhausted..." only for traders and those using TA cool2.gif

Ya, you are right.

US market is so big , but I always see only 1 investor in this forum.

And having a weak heart, I chicken out.

Apology for that. notworthy.gif

Got, balls shaking with AAPL call options. One fine day when GREED overcame my emotion, the WINNING portfolio is now bleeding hard.
Now hide in the bunker.

Out of 5 LONG position prior to crash, only 1 recovered, AMD

Others like SLV, AGQ and GLD are quite near to entry price.

One dead stock is SPRINT (S)

sky1809, auto-cruise riding means auto cruise riding, exit and go to cash means exit and go to cash nod.gif
the market is always there. its just like standing by the beach, waiting for the waves to touch your feet
this is called trading, no need to run deep into sea water for more water or climb coconut tree for less water flex.gif
u can alwiz drop by 'property talk' section, no point putting all klse moolah profits all into reits
the returns, rental and refinancing capabilities of owning props, outweigh the benefits of overinvesting into reits biggrin.gif

Z: Don't worry.. the market is always here.

I always have a exit strategy. I won't tolerate more than 15%~20% loss. If more than that, it means I'm wrong, better exit and play again with remaining capital.

When playing with options, one really need to be extra careful because they're not stocks. Time can kill 'em. Use them as hedging tool or amplifying tool when you've confidence. Just bail when something ain't right. Always can come back another day.

Looking back:
Sept: Best time to play bear
Oct: Best time to play bull (although I have been cautiously long only till SP 1220 only).

These two months, I've made more than last 6-8 months in earlier part of the year because of the volatility.

The bulls have earnings season to help them.. so, afaik, it is going to wind down in about two weeks.

Looking forward:
Now that the EU crisis is temporarily over, time to take a look at the banks. The bulls will take 'em higher.
If financials rally, everything will rise.. commodities, etc..

Good luck to all, may we all continue to make money.

When to sell is really a tough call. For me, I have always take some profits and let some of them ride up till my trailing stops hit, then buy back again when it dives.

For LVS, I'm still holding on my 1K long shares (now averaging $30) and selling cover calls every other week to lower down my cost. Also, scalping calls/puts when within this range: 36-44-50 area. There are quite a bit of supply to soak up at around $50-$52 (resistance).

Looking over its earnings.. I think this time LVS could break that $50-$52 barrier if the general market wants to reclaim
that May high spot before year end.

Q3 earnings been good for LVS. Q4 could be even better because of the holidays in China.
The slowdown in China were major concerns but they still gamble like nobody business.
Singapore MBS rolled in record profits. Pretty astounding so far.. no recession fear in Singapore.

I hope LVS can go to $80 in the future, so I may buy myself a brand new car or pay off my house. laugh.gif
