I'm not a Mac user (yet) but I found a software for image editing. From what I've heard it's similar to the GIMP so you might want to add this to the list.

Seashore

Also, here's a Mac version of Soulseek (P2P programs)

soulseeX

You can try

1.Poisoned
QUOTE
Poisoned is a file sharing application for Mac OS X. Poisoned may look like your average file sharing application at first glance, but it is so much more. Unlike applications like Limewire or Kazaa that connect to only one file sharing network, Poisoned can connect to several seamlessly. Unlike Kazaa and several other file sharing applications, Poisoned contains no spyware and no adware.

2. iSwipe
QUOTE
Compatible with: WWW, FTP, Hotline, Napster, OpenNapster, Gnutella, Carracho(*), OpenFT, iTunes, eDonkey and FastTrack (Kazaa, Grokster), BitTorrent and the Ares networks!!

You are aware that these are commercial programmes that require payment for use? If so, warez discussions are best kept off this board.

In any case, here's a great list of FREEWARE that is available for OSX:

Personally I prefer Neooffice compared to Openoffice. Furthermore, I dont know why, after installing, Openoffice, the only application I can see is Writer (aka Words in MS), I dont know where the rest of Open office application gone.

For people who want a .dpg movie convertor for a Mac(for the R4 device), try this homepage.mac.com/atkinson.d/DPG Converter.zip you will need this http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mplayer...ies20060307.zip to run it too. hope it helps for Mac users who are trying to get a .dpg convertor. My friend shared this with me and I found it usefull for some people(not me though I don't have an R4 tongue.gif)

Found something that I'd like to share.
http://vixy.net/
this is just like any other web site that simply just allows you to download YouTube videos into your Mac/PC, but the special thing about this one is you get to choose the video format you want which makes it really usefull.

Highly recommend this download, it's actually an addition to iTunes, does loads of stuff, best part of it is, it recommends a list of music similar to whichever you are listening to, and free mp3 downloads too! Very cool!

You have problems downloading? Or installing? Or using it? You have to follow the installation instructions carefully there..

I have been using ffmpegx only, maybe others could recommend some..

I think he meant the download. When it almost complete, Safari will report an error saying connection reset by peer or something similiar, I can't remember, I used to get this problem for ffmpegx download.

Yep, that error. I'm not sure what is it but I tried to download twice. Same error. And I downloaded MPEG Streamclip but QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is needed. And I'm not sure where to get it. Thanks!

My guess is you want to use your notebook with external monitor, with your notebook closed, right?

You dont need any software to do that, with that intention in mind I suppose you already have external keyboard & mouse?

All you need to do is close your notebook with your external monitor connected, let it go to sleep, then wake it up with your external keyboard or mouse.

You guys should really try this. VERY VERY USEFUL, just exactly what I was looking for. Got it yesterday and it worked flawlessly.

http://www.caseapps.com/sofacontrol.html

It lets you control major applications just with the Apple Remote and it controls the mouse cursor too, with clicking, double click and right click abilities too!

Just thought of sharing PhotoInfo 2.0.1, it's a simple app that you can use to change the date/time embedded in the EXIF data of your digital camera photos, in case you didn't set the time correctly on the camera.. I found it useful, coz i accidentally changed the camera date without realizing it and the arrangement in iPhoto's library went crazy...

A FREE and very useful software to trim iPhoto:

http://www.rhythmiccanvas.com/software/iphotodiet/

iPhoto Diet is a utility that helps to slim down your iPhoto library by manipulating your photos in the following ways:

- eliminate duplicate photos created internally by iPhoto or imported by yourself
- remove iPhoto's backups of rotated or modified photos
- strip the thumbnail icons of your photos
- remove thumbnail photos that have become mixed up with your high resolution photos
- identify photos which have not been added to albums
- weed out unnecessary folders and files from the library
- and more!

It's built in. Much better than WinXP if you asked me.
Go to System Preferences > International > Add Chinese to your languages.
Then in "Input Menu", enable the chinese. And check "Show input menu in menubar".

Select the chinese from menubar when you want to type chinese.

i use PinYin on mac to type chinese character, but it still not as good as windows xp's
xp can detect 我們 if you type 'wm' only, and spacebar to insert those characters. however you will need to press return button in mac os x to insert a word, one more . must type 'wo' return then 'men' return to have 我們. take longer time.

if anyone found a solution tell me

One more question, although i am not sure whether this is the correct thread. Anyway, can we use the same external hard disk for Windows and Mac? My current external HD is format as NTFS, can i use it in Mac?

1- What so different about mac and microsoft? Please tell briefly coz im not an IT person
2- I checkout the price at Lowyat and the guy told me that basic for imac is RM4119.And when i asked him about microsoft word,excell..etc(apple version) , he said that i have to but that for only RM300++ .. its mean that the notebook comes without the word, excell, powerpoint software??
3-Is it Imac only acn use for Grapphic person?Im really confused right now..
4-For people who only surf internet, listen to music, watch movie, and do a school work,is it suitable for them to use imac?
5-Can i mac play pirated games?
6-And why if i want to upgrade imac Ram is so damn expensive?Even SONY VAIO cost RM100++ while Imac cost around RM500++??
7-I heard that u can only use original software if u use imac.Is it true? It's mean that i cant use pirated one?

Hi all,

Is there any free app that has equivalent functionality as Mac OS X 10.5's "Spaces"?
I find it really useful for productivity.
Hope someone can recommend any. Thanks. biggrin.gif

I dont think you can, when your mac goes to sleep, all connections are terminated, all activities are put on hold. Your problem is not with messenger.

Announcement:
an Apple MacBook LapTop has been stolen but the thief did not take the charger. Since apple charger is a bit unique and not many Apple reseller around. kindly take note. For those who come across people wanting to sell an Apple MacBook LapTop with serial#" 1PMA700ZA/A (N) or wanting to buy a charger for Apple Laptop... They are possibly the thief or related to the thief or harboring the thief. So kindly send me the necessary eMail (pleassssssseeeeeeeeeeee). I have made report to the police station on this.
Another thing since MacOS is hardly pirated, I am pleading to anybody who knows how to block using any technique possible.

It's rare that you will get infected with a virus in OS X. Therefore, I don't need any anti-virus/anti-spyware solution.

Yea, I think it's warez download because it's full software which is copyrighted available for download for free.

The Logitech Control Center (LCC) supports Mac OS X (both Power PC and Intel based Macs).

For all supported products, you can program your keyboard and/or mouse buttons to perform different functions and to take full advantage of your Logitech keyboard, mouse or trackball. With the LCC and your Logitech keyboard, you can:

* Browse the Internet using dedicated keys that provide one-touch access to your favorite sites.
* Launch your email application by pressing a button.
* Play music and control the system speaker using built-in buttons.
* Open frequently used items, such as documents, folders and applications, with a single keystroke.

You can also use the LCC with your Logitech mouse or trackball to:

* Scroll in windows of applications built for MacOS X. You can scroll up and down with a single keystroke or wheel movement.
* Switch between open applications.
* Show contextual menus with a single mouse click.
* Simulate keystrokes to provide shortcuts to commands you use regularly.

Any recommend software for recording flash video or quick time or undownloadable video to your HD.....??
*
Use Safari, play that movie or flash, fired up your activity window, whatever happen in the safari window is all listed here, locate swf for flash file, flv for flash video, or mp3 for.. or whatever in the list that is big in size (sometimes the media files pretend to be something else, but you always can tell coz the file size is huge.) hit command-c for the item you want to download, go download window and paste into it. after download you might want to add a proper extension to the file, eg, .flv for most youtube videos.

and whatever video file loaded with QT playback, can click on the little triangle and save it as movie file, except streaming video. And also you need to register your QT in order to make it pro-version to open up all these advance editing features.

For normal cropping, resize and colour adjustment, use Preview.
/Applications/Preview

Touch-up work or image manipulating may consider Gimp.

Or you might want to do it the pro way, Photoshop??

Hmm..
See, dood cobain, I am not allow to post any illegal links here or they will kick me out.

Adobe site allow to do download, and their server is fast enough to feed the download in an hour or so. If you like it, then find a way to activate the program.

Sorry to hear that Yahoo had lock the bottom line to 10.4.
Some reported that the beta version ver1 did work with 10.3.9 but it's hard to find since yahoo feeds the new-built to all the download points.

Alternative is Adium. version 1.0.6 is for at least 10.3.9.

A free uninstaller for Mac...I've used AppZapper before, but it cost $12.50 if I'm not mistaken...

But AppCleaner is free...I've wrote about AppCleaner in my blog and there also a download link there...You can read it here...

They are totally different versions, 10.3's are Panther while 10.4's are Tiger, and the latest 10.5's Leopard. Whether it is Tiger or Leopard that you want to upgrade to, you will have to buy it.

Copernicus.

I am not sure.. but you might also want to try this iShowU, or ScreenFlow, ScreenFlow is nice, but it's not free.

Don't think the store still stocking that Tiger, but you can ask around to borrow from friend. Or acquire it by all means like downloading it or buying it.. err.. like not the proper way, if you must upgrade.

wat do u mean by that...

all USB or FireWire external HDD support Mac and Windows

what not supported is the file system, Mac dont support Windows file system - NTFS, and in Windows also not supported Mac file System (HFS / HFS+)

by default Mac OSX only can read NTFS but not writing it, and by default Windows cant read and write HFS/HFS+

if u saying that u wan to use a external HDD from Mac OSX formated using NTFS file system, then u need program like Paragon NTFS or NTFS 3G (freeware) to write on the disk

if u wan to use an external HDD from Windows formated using HFS / HFS+, then u need MacDrive (as said by gengstapo)

then u need to install Paragon NTFS (shareware) or NTFS-3G (freeware)

or alternatively if ur external HDD does not contain any thing u need, u can just reformat it with FAT file system so both Windows and Mac can access the drive

i currently installed windows xp using bootcamp. later installed vmware fusion and make it load windows partition. run it as unity then you have dual OS running at the same time (mac menubar ontop and windows taskbar at the bottom screen)

or u can run windows as full screen then use spaces and allocate one space just for windows..

best example of this setup is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dylanboom/292...ol-87689304@N00

however doing this setup on macbook with 1gb ram will make the macbook ridiculously slow. doesn't hurt to try though

The bottom line for Leopard is G4 and 867Mhz.

iBook G4 can go Leopard, as long as you have the retail box version of Leopard installer. The bundled MacBook installer won't work, but if your friend has a MacBook and the installer disc, might try hooked up the two machine with firewire cable and using target disc mode to install it via the macbook into the iBook HDD.

Back up before you do anything.

well is not mandatory ... anyway MacOSX has it own build in firewall

if u hope to get a firewall for Mac there is Little Snitch (not free) , there is also some antivirus like ClamXav (free)

well basically so far, the probability of getting a Mac / Unix virus are very very very slim.... i would say 0.0001 out of the probability of 1... maybe in the future there will be more virus.. now it still ok

as from security... Mac are not hack free... u still vulnerable for attacks... so dont always let ur guard down

The Unarchiver, UnRarX, SimplyRar, UnAceX, YemuZip.

These are all freeware or either opensource i believed. Stuffit Expander is like half free, keep asking you to register or buy the full package -darn annoying, Stuffit Deluxe is the full package.

Apple used to bundle stuffit expander before they have BOMArchieveHelper (the built-in app).

The latest Stuffit 2009 seems to have issue with some RAR multiparts files. It report error while the older Stuffit works just fine. The down part of using all the freewares is missing some advance feature like recover / repair corrupted archive as I aware.

few months ago, I saw a news of hackers competing each other for hacking windows and mac too...

As a result, they actually hack MAC faster than the windows in about 1 minutes...

I don't know where i read it, but according to the report, there are many reasons that makes mac hacked faster than the windows, so it's not fair...

but basically it shows that mac can be hack through internet...

What can I use to record myself playing a guitar + good quality sound recording ? Any programs ? I have 1 alternative which is buy the M-Audio thing to make the guitar's sound goes in directly to the computer rather than to record from the amp ... But can we do tis too ?

Just like those people in youtube doing covers . Clear sound , Smooth movement and no sound delaying or syncing failure .

What program can I use to reformat my EXTERNAL HARD DISK and change its file format type ?

Urgent ... Thank you

m-audio interface will help for recording the audio.

else is like just you record-your-self-playing via video recorder.

Nono...I mean I record my own playing ... Then record my own video ... Then the original MP3 song ... Lets say I play a song cover of a song of Jay Chow . I record myself playing ... Then I wanna make it nice ... I put my recorded video onto my mac...Then I record my playing sound into my mac...Then put them together and make them run together ... Then lastly put the original MP3 song to make my song alive . Something like that

for photo editing software there is Adobe Photoshop and Apple Aperture, and iPhoto can do a little bit of photo editing too

Adobe Photoshop were 1st made for Mac since 20 years ago tongue.gif , so remember there is Photoshop for Mac

for web design there is Adobe Dreamweaver and Apple iWeb, i prefer Dreamweaver as iWeb were too simple and lack of features, but if u were a beginner to making new website iWeb is a good starting tools

i just found this nice piece of software which syncs a folder from your mac to the internet for free. it is a concept of dropbox where u drop things to your public folder so that you can share with other users within the network

However this dropbox syncs your files to the internet and makes it publicly accessible or privately store your files online (only accessible by you when log in to the web interface)

I find it quite handy when i want to send files to others and don't look forward on uploading files to file upload sites like rapidshare or sendspace. i just drop into the dropbox folder and it wll automatically sync my files online. furthermore, if you put the files in public folder, you can just right click on the file in finder and get the public url pasted to your clipboard

there are also other features that i havent explore like versioning (something like svn where you can retrieve your previous copy) and you get 2gb of space for a free account.

if you are interested do check it out

yes mecury msn supports webcam. havent try before coz i prefer skype than msn for video conferencing.

anyways, tested this SynergyKM that allows you to share keyboard and mouse between different computers. i tried it with my office desktop and sharing the mouse and keyboard with my mac. it comes in handy when i need to use my mac i dont need to move my hands to my macbook pro but use the same mouse and keyboard instead tongue.gif

nifty!

just move it to bin or replace the file with newer version if it is app file.

if it is a package then you will need uninstaller from the package.

You should start looking into the application as there's a function to clear the history. It's so easy mate.

Anyway....Let me point it out to you then: Go to Skype and select Preference. Select Chat and you'll see ''Clear History". Done. It's that easy.

Cheers

is there any application or just double click  on the file and it self install??

sorry i newbie..smile.gif

Just double click it & it will mount by itself
Depend on apps, you might just need drag n' drop the icon into your Application folder
Some of them have their own installer

Hi there,

I've been asking around at the Anime Shrine forum about any good video codecs for the Mac OSX but I've only got stuff like Perian, Plex, etc and those codecs as well as players couldn't play H264 smoothly...lags a lot as well as 720P movies. So...here am I asking again for your help...any good codecs or players that will play H264, mkv, avi, etc as well as loading the subtitles onto the movie file itself? Thanks for the help in advance!

Apple has just released two new products, Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio. You can have a look at it here. Final Cut Studio is for Video editing and Logic Studio is for Audio editing. I am not going to talk much about it....

Have you tried VLC Media Player?, i can play any video without the need of any codec..

And it's free, you can also transcode any readable video files.

Please check whether the Modem is MAC supported or only Windows supported. Sometimes, the driver/installer is not compatible with Mac. hmm.gif

Anyone here trades shares?

M2U only allow IE6.0 and above and they require us to install a program to view (which is an .exe file i think) so i cant use M2U.

It is getting frustrating so i think im going to opt to change

Please advise if you can recommend any good platform accessible by Safari/Firefox.

Thanks smile.gif

Its called Migration Assistant. You can find it under /Applications/Utilities

It'll migrate everything over for you, and most importantly your keychain as well.

You've got a choice between using a Firewire cable, or just an ethernet cable

you can try using /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app

select the disk, right click then select the 'First Aid' option

bad sector repair?i tot it isn't possible to repair bad sector, just that the software will avoid writing data on the bad sector. the longer u use the hdd, the bad sector will increase and ur disk space will become smaller and smaller... sad.gif

first, you need to load them full with data to really 'scan'. I have tried many many times scanning without problem without data.

What formats define "most" of your movies?
I use quicktime with perian for almost everything except rmvb and wmv.

try VLC (free download at www.videolan.org) ... plays almost everything.

if you need Quicktime support (iMovie / Keynote) then try out Perian (also free to download)

Are you using Snow Leopard?
That's odd. Quicktime should be able to play these (mpeg 2, mpeg 4, h.264) natively. In SL even finder can preview these movies.
If you are using SL, flip4mac (during leopard's time) doesn't work. U need the beta version for SL. I'd suggest using VLC for your WMV stuff.

Hi all...

Just want to ask: Does reinstall iTunes will remove all the songs and mp4 from the previous one?

Recently, i had run something for the dvd drive and it affect iTunes. There's a message telling me to reinstall iTunes. I'm afraid that by reinstall iTunes, all the videos and songs in the current one will be deleted.

Hope anyone can help. icon_question.gif

may i know why it does not working
I make a burn folder and threw all the MP3 files into the burn folder. After clicking Burn the disc start burning.
The VCD just could not play the file in my car. There is no other track except One only. no sound at all also.

I think you burnt them as data and not a music CD.

use iTunes.
Create a playlist.
Burn that playlist, when you click burn, iTunes has an option to burn MP3.

if you burn in Finder (which is for data) ... you'll get a data disc... not an MP3 disc...

I dont know what the problem, but seems after I update my os x to 10.5.8, my bowtie(b2) seems working funny.
Need to delete some file in /Document & re-launch so it went fine. But after that, the problem will rise again.

Any fix?
