try VLC (free download at www.videolan.org) ... plays almost everything.
if you need Quicktime support (iMovie / Keynote) then try out Perian (also free to download)

I just tried, start up VLC, then File > Save Playlists.
also ... shortcut key cmd + S . |

use iTunes.
Create a playlist. Burn that playlist, when you click burn, iTunes has an option to burn MP3. if you burn in Finder (which is for data) ... you'll get a data disc... not an MP3 disc... |
