Ahpingko, personally I do like the beercan, and what I have to agree with shootkk is that the beercan is very slow in focusing especially in long end.

You should ask yourself whether you're in for the long haul with Sony and whether you're going to go full frame in future. If yes then the Zeiss will be a much better investment. The 28-75mm is strictly for those with a FF cam and tight budget.

ahpingko : That depends on the condition of the lens. As you already know the beercan is an old lens. Although it's built like a tank but wear and tear do occur over time so make sure the lens is in good condition. The beercan is also a slow focusing lens although the 75-300mm is not fast by any means but keep that in mind. Of course if you like the 'Minolta' look the beercan is famous for then it's a good buy.

ieR : I like the shot but one thing bothers me. The grass flowers (the white bits on top) is much brighter than the subject and I feel that it is a little distracting in a sense. That's just me lar... nice shot overall.

Yea I'm waiting for the launch of a new FF from Sony next year or so. For the moment is still using the cheap and basic a390. So Zeiss if for the long go? Thanks for this one.

So no comments for the 70-300mm? tongue.gif

Which 70-300?

The 75-300 or the 70-300G or the Tamron's 70-300 ?

Tested the Tamron's 70-300, quite good bargain for its price.

Unless you rather get a 70-300G from Sony, the Tamron might just do fine.

Off topic -

Many people keep saying, upgrading to FF ish good and etc. But frankly, how many of us do really use the full potential of the FF? I don't geddit when some newbie who just got lotsa cash to go around and say I've gone FF, wow~"

Personally, I do not do large size printings, 4R normally nia. I don't think I'll use the full potential of the FF since i've yet to max out my aps-c potential, thus no reason to even go FF. Is that something logical? XD

Intelicca : if u planning for FF later by all means Zeiss FTW. but if not and u want both range with the budget of Zeiss better wait for the new 1650 f2.8 and take the Sony 70300G.

APSC mode in a full frame body just doesnt work. Go attach a DT lens on an a900 and try to take a picture with it.

Advantages of FF have been quite fully explained by shootkk a few pages back...

Erm depending on what you mean....

If you'd know you are going full frame, might as well prepare towards FF rather than buying DT/Aps-c lens and selling em off later right?

No rules saying for pros only, but FF does bring an illusion that one's somehow

Ehem, never mind. Scrape that topic.

Hmm.. never thought can get some illusion from FF @_@ . Just thought about since I will be on Sony for the long go so why not just go for FF without the need to constantly change body. Thanks for the advise anyways. notworthy.gif

Sony APS-C lenses can be used on Sony's FF bodies. You won't get vignette because the cam will automatically crop the picture to APS-C size. That means you will get a 11MP picture from a 24MP sensor. So if all you have are APS-C lenses then it means you're wasting half the sensor! No point going FF like that. Better get the A77.

Also, trying to frame a pic when using DT lenses on a FF body is bloody difficult. The markers for APS-C borders are hard to see. So you probably end up with inaccurate framing.

Might as well choose something you like, use it and only change it if you have to.

Anyway, its unethical for a gearhead like me to tell others not 2 upgrade, I should be screaming go get FF/A77 now anyways laugh.gif
