Your chance is pretty good as long as you have >7 in all IELTS sections and have more than 3 years software engineering related experience.

Since your aunt is in Sydney, you might consider applying VISA190. You'll receive extra 5 points.

I am not sure if medical representative is in the Skilled Occupational List though.

I'm charted with IChemE for Chemical Engineering.

Read through the Migration Skills Assessment website, seems that there is no mentioning of waiving CDR based on career history and ability to demonstrate competency in relevant field via interview session.

How long ago was that when your friend did this?

Thanks for all the replies, but at the moment its looking very much like i'm not able to waive this CDR requirement. So long for all the Charted Engineer IChemE status which states "The title is recognised globally and understood across all sectors of the profession. It is valuable to individuals, employers, regulators, government and society" :-(

I think his was around 2 years ago. Rules might have changed since.

I worked for a builder in KL before moving to Sydney.
Plenty of jobs here in NSW but employers are always looking for those with local experience.
Anyway got my job in the property sector after 1 month of job hunting, residential market is picking up here.
But be prepared to take a step down from your senior/manager role at home.
Now am on a $27 per hour pay  sad.gif
But that would open up more doors and once I have the local experience I will be moving on to other better paying jobs.

You must be one of those top seniors back in Malaysia to be disgruntled about the position, haha tongue.gif
Btw, may I know how did you managed to land on your first job there? via seek.com, local recruitment companies, etc? and where exactly in the property sector are you working hmm.gif
I'll be moving to NSW as well next year biggrin.gif. How's life over there?

No I am not a top senior, but was expecting more from the pay.
I am in property management and I got my job through Seek.
Life here generally more relaxed, shopping centers in my suburb close at 5PM, they close at 4PM during weekends.

I did work as a site engineer in a construction site in NSW (I am from civil engineering background) but I quit after a week. I decided I wanted an office job smile.gif
To give you an idea, it was a $30 mil residential project - not too big,
site work starts at 7AM and finishes at 4PM, concrete casting in the mornings and in the afternoons there's not a lot of work.
After lunch we'd just do some paperwork and by 3PM the project manager was already preparing to go back home.
He actually said to me: Leave the rest of the work for tomorrow morning, I want to go home!

In sum, I'd say life is good here, I like the crystal blue skies and the good air quality where I'm staying. I have more time to pick up hobbies and new skills.
You won't be bored - there are lots of RSL clubs around with slot machines, food and alcohol. Variety of drinks and they are nice smile.gif I go there almost every weekend.
The city is very happening, and I enjoyed taking ferry to the zoo, you get nice scenic views.
Or you can drive around to Blue Mountains etc.

I get to have a career change and it's starting over a new life.
Migration isnt for every one though, it depends on one's preferences.
It is also easier if you have friends here or you can migrate together with a partner.

Hi, I have read many replies here, it's seems like not easy to get a full time job there, minimum requirement is PR and an Aus cert before they willing to interview us, not to forget it will influence by the job we apply also. I would like to hear the opinions and suggestions from you all based on my situation now. My main concern is want to migrate, live and work in Aus. rclxms.gif
I am 24 years old, finished my degree in business management with honours in a local college that partner with UK uni, i get second lower class, my english level is normal, i worked as sales executive for more than 1 year, my job scope is a bit related with engineering because we are selling machines for factories.
1. Should i go Aus and try get a job there? What kind of job can i get or probably just able to work part time?
2. Study master course to fullfill 2years of residency and get Aus cert, then get TR to find job? Lastly apply for PR to stay there?
3. Better option? hmm.gif

no difference if you've an Australian undergrad/ postgrad or not. The main thing is, is your work experience on their Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

You can only go there and work if you have a visa that allows you to do so. Best bet is still a 189/190 PR visa. Sponsored Employer ones are very very hard to come by.

Personally don't waste your $$ and do an Aussie postgrad. You'll be in a mountain load of debt before anything.

If, let's say your nominated occupation is on the SOL, check what the basic IELTS score is. Normally it is a minimum of 7.

I suggest you stay here, work a few more years. In the meantime, check what is on the SOL (if yours isn't), and if it's within you qualification/ capacity, jump over to a new industry. Also perhaps try to improve your english if you feel that scoring a 7/8 in the IELTS will be a challenge.

Some of the sifus here have mentioned they've had to take it twice, some even opted for the PTE instead.

Hi there, migrating to Aus is not easy unless your occupation is in the demand list (SOL) or you are super rich.
However, my advise is that:
1. Should i go Aus and try get a job there? What kind of job can i get or probably just able to work part time?
If you go Aus on a tourist visa, it is unlikely you can get a job. be it full or part time. most employer want citizen or pr, at least also student visa which have legal work right! Also as you dont have a valid working visa you can only work illegal there and risk yourself for being blacklisted for 3 years if being caught or reported to the authority by others.

2. If you have the money this is the best way to choose. But u have to bear in mind that let say you going to study Master in Business Management, this might not help as a way to get PR as it is not related to the SOL (based on current SOL but it might change or wrong. dont quote me.) Master in Accounting probably can relate to Accountant in SOL but as this occupation is already on the watchlist and non of us can guarantee it will not be removed any sooner. So if you gonna invest your time n money in this option, you need to do a research first into which course gives you more chances and opportunity to get pr.

3.Better option might be work and holiday visa or marry someone there and get spouse visa. lol...
Work and holiday is a visa that enable you to work and travel to Aus for 12 months. Every year only 100 places available and it opens for application every July if not mistaken. I myself managed to get this visa back in 2012 and find a job in perth. and boss then sponsored me for working visa (457). But if you lucky you get good boss, if not you get shitty boss like me and needed to work 4 years for them and being treated like kuli lol...and not sure whether they willing to sponsor you for your pr after 2 years anot. So if possible still independent skill migrant better.

I would suggest you to go through the immigration website if you really interested to migrate.

Is this industry specific / place you're living in or affects the whole country when looking for jobs?

Here are couple of interesting anecdotes.

Mid level/senior IT consultants - on Linkedin - approx 170 applications per job
Engineering grads - 3000+ applications per job
Accounting roles - 400+ applications per job

U do the math.

If I am a recruiter and receive 400 applications per job, how would I shortlist?
Answer: experience almost 100% match JD.

Thanks guys, so my better option should be by start working there. The problem now is my work experience is not listed in the SOL, meaning i probably can't get 189visa, as lilfire said i can go for WHV which probably work as part time and they will send me back after the visa expired.
Is there other visa for me to work legally there as full time?(as i know there is no visa suitable for me right?)
Or which visa enable me for getting a job as part time there? (So i can jump to another industry in SOL to apply pr like daylight_dancer suggested)

Why don't u jump to listed skills & get experience in Malaysia? What visa also no need.

Work up to 3yrs then you get extra points.

What the post above me said.

Stay here, jump onto an occupation that is on the SOL. Work in Malaysia for 3 years. You'll get more points for your work experience and age then.

By that time you're only 27, right in the age range where you get MAX points for your application, that's half of total points off your worries according to today's point test requirement

Thanks for the info.

With those jobs having such high application rates, how would it be recommendable for people who wish to migrate there?
It's probably good for those who have skills which are highly in demand there, but how will it benefit engineers / IT guys to make the transition?

What I'm seeing for now is for those who wish to migrate:
-Move over and obtain any jobs willing to hire due to zero 'local' experience. Make do with what you have until you hopefully strike it with a job you want.
-Land yourself a job before moving over, which is probably a better choice, but how does the zero 'local' experience apply to this?

As an IT guy, it feels like it's probably a very tough or bad time to migrate to Aus.

Real world view

I know a guy landed here within a week got a job in IT networking. Not a superstar in malaysia and by his own words was just a regular IT guy.

Then there is another person and if you read his resume you would wonder why google didn't hire him, superstar in malaysia but 6 months on yet to get a job in IT ?

So go figure is it luck, or ?
