Grats buddy! All the best in your PR application.

QUOTE(kagenn @ Nov 6 2015, 11:56 AM)
Thanks for the info.

With those jobs having such high application rates, how would it be recommendable for people who wish to migrate there?
It's probably good for those who have skills which are highly in demand there, but how will it benefit engineers / IT guys to make the transition?

What I'm seeing for now is for those who wish to migrate:
-Move over and obtain any jobs willing to hire due to zero 'local' experience. Make do with what you have until you hopefully strike it with a job you want.
-Land yourself a job before moving over, which is probably a better choice, but how does the zero 'local' experience apply to this?

As an IT guy, it feels like it's probably a very tough or bad time to migrate to Aus.

I am in one of the jobs that has more than 4000 applicants. Most of my colleagues have sort of similar traits, as below,
I) double degree or with a master degree
II) Have worked in the industry for at least 2 years
III) Done at least two vac work in super majors
IV) Can speak really well and excels in academic
V) Have great EC
VI) Locals

But of course don't let the above disappoint you. It's a big company so smaller companies may target different group of people. If anybody wants to have a quick chat on it just let me know, I just transitioned from a student to the working life and always love to help out. =)

So go figure is it luck, or ?
*

Luck. For every person who is lucky there are dozens who cant land any job let alone a job in their chosen field. As I mentioned I personally know at least 3.

I think one can make it but really have to:
1. Be aggressive in persuing any job. Network like yr life depended on it. Join FB groups, associations, meetups etc.
2. Be realistic abt your experience. Just cos u were manager in Bolehland it doesnt count for anything.
3. To make ends meet hv to consider low end jobs in retail, security etc. Unlike Bolehland one can still survive on that salary. Tons of Indians do this.
4. Consider coming alone and renting a room only first to save $ while u land a job. Funding wifey and kiddies without a salary is stressful and financially draining.
It will be a major adjustment. U r probably used to a comfy condo, or Minah to do yr laundry and make u kopi. U r used to driving 3am to mamak.
The long term benefits however are worth it. A fair open liberal society without institutionised discrimination. Where governments are transparent and not full of dead wood intending to suck every last ringgit out of the rakyat. Where your child will be given a fair chance of being educated regardless of income level or race. Cities full of parks and fresh air where u can walk around without fear of snatch thieves. Houses without grilles and fences.

Hey guys,

I have an Australian degree major in Financial Risk Management.

I am currently thinking of doing the CPA programme to get a PR based on the SOL(Accountant) for the sake of migration.

However, it would take me 3-4 years to complete the CPA programme. I am afraid Accountant will be removed from the SOL by then and my effort will be redundant.

Do you guys think I should take up the CPA programme or consider an alternative path?

A forum user talks about his short term as a migrant in Australia in one of the bigger Australian forum. My profession is absolutely swamped, can only find part time work related to my profession after six months searching sad.gif

"If you are a skilled professional, and you're reading this while still in the starting phases of migration, consider deeply what you are doing. Don't leave your home country before securing a job on this side, this is the best suggestion i can give you."

Without an accounting major from uni, have you check whether u can just take the CPA program? As far as I know CPA program has some prerequisite subjects where u must have taken in your degree course to qualify for the program and most of the prerequisite subjects are covered in accounting major. FYI....If the accounting degree is an Australia equivalent accounting degree, the person would not even need to complete CPA to apply for skill migration under the accountant category. The recognise accounting degree would suffice.

Given the relatively tough job market here in Aust for accountants.. you may want to consider looking into trades as trades job will give you more job security than being a professional.

Just wants to share this , especially if you are young it might be worth it.
After 4 years on Aussie PR you qualify for citizenship.
Once citizen it will pave your way to migrate to US under E3 visa. This is a agreement between US and AU. It's easier then green card or H1B.
You just need a job offer from USA .

Met a few who are on that journey.

As far as I understand, for this you gotta give up Malaysian citizenship right? I don't recall Malaysia allowing dual citizenship?

of course, correct me if I'm wrong.

Giving up Malaysian citizenship might not be an idea I would take but, each to their own.
