Thanks for the welcome =D

I'm a person who is terrified of needles since young (got trauma due to injection since young) so handling my girl was kinda hard for me at first as i am wary of her pricks. She's been pretty nice to me by putting her spikes down now but i still don't dare to hold her in my palm while she is in 'terbalik and in half ball form' ;_; kinda envious how CelestialChaos so easily picked up Durian even when it was in ball form and clicking and jumping in his palm X_x i mean it looks so ... OUCH yet he said he was already used to it D:

trust me, you do not want to hold a clicking hedgehog. since then they'll have their quills contently spiked up to hurt >.<

and take it from me, as cute as it looks when a hedgehog balls up, always be glad that yours is a well mannered hog and never ever complain that yours isn't doing something which is somewhat hog-sential.

because i know i did, happened once and i do.not.want it happening again, ever :x

Olivur> true, tho she still huff and puff every time i visit her cage but only cools down when i let her smell my hand.

And every time i put her outside her cage to run around its pretty amusing to see her try to get back in the cage through the bars. this is the first pet i have that actually wants to stay in a cage so desperately O.o

bluswhitehat> at pet shops the cheapest I've seen around rm300+ tho there are cheaper ones i think. in the forum its around rm100+ tho. Dangerous or not is up to how you handle it and if you have kids around i think, coz so far I've not experience any danger O:

Wheels *_* any idea where to get a big wheel? I'm worried Neftie isn't getting enough exercise coz she sleeps and sleeps and sleeps

and how much mealworms to feed a 1 month + hedgie? and what other cat food is recommended for hedgies other thn royal canin?

1. Illegal, no. Dangerous, not really. Their spines can draw blood if you're not careful when handling a balled-up/temperamental hedgehog. Otherwise, no health threats.
2. RM100 (plus minus ten bucks if you buy on LYN)

It's a really amazing sight, isn't it?
I was amazed as well the first time I saw Chubster walk on the wheel. She doesn't run much. She's slow & steady.
I never see Huffy run in the day.

Pet Lovers Center. The 11" one costs RM80-ish.

I feed my hedgies 5-10 mealworms.
5 or so for the small ones (1.5 months now) and 10 for the older ones (6.5 & 11.5 months). biggrin.gif
I don't feed them treats everyday though.

I only feed my hedgies RC36 & RC32 because others such as IAMS are of mediocre quality.
You can try buying Natural Balance though. It's cheaper than RC, if I'm not mistaken.

Today Cottie gave me the shock of my life. It was lunch time and I brought along some dragonfruit, bengkuang and her favourite capsicum.

I gave her small bits of dragonfruit and bengkuang for her, after a few bites she began to act weirdly like vomit act or trying to get something out of her mouth. Didn't seem like she is choking as she can still walk around calmly, so I suspected it could be bengkuang stuck on the roof of her mouth (according to hedgie forums).

So I tried to place her down with her back on my lap and open her mouth but she kept struggling to get up. I can see that she was very uncomfortable and she kept trying to dig it out with her paw for half an hour but to no avail. I thought of inserting my finger into her mouth but was also thinking of her teeth sinking into them.

1 hour passed and I thought that I need to sacrifice my baby finger to free her from the suffering. Then I saw the piece of capsicum which was long, thin and solid enough to insert into her mouth. So I held her still and insert the vege inside her and boy did she clamp on it hard. With a few more tries I managed to shove the bengkuang piece off the roof and .. Yay! She returned to normal, swallowed the bengkuang, chomp down on her saviour capsicum and kept eating as usual ^^

Thanks for reading this far.. XD

For natural balance, any of them is fine? Or must it be a specific one?

Phew! I'm glad she's safe. Chubster choked on a kibble once as well & my heart just stopped.
I posted a link here a while ago about helping choking hedgies.
Here it is: http://chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5280

It just kills you to see her choking, isn't it? D:

Feed the worms with oatmeal & carrot/potato/apple/whatever veggie/fruit you have.
I guess you can feed them any kind but check the ingredients first. Make sure the fat content is less than 20%.
