Here's the ONLY clear picture of the hoglet (20 days old) that I managed to get with my camera since they're all moving about actively nowadays.

QUOTE(ddr3 @ Aug 20 2011, 09:51 PM) The one on the right, if I'm not mistaken. He's the smallest of all.The female has the darkest skin. I have a feeling that one or maybe two of them will turn out as snowflake hedgehog(s). You can see the pinto's pattern here. It's just a small patch. ![]() Check out the link in my signature for other pictures. I update it once in a while. This post has been edited by TeliLeti: Aug 20 2011, 11:24 PM |

QUOTE(mav_850 @ Aug 25 2011, 11:11 PM) no peeking.. You should have NEVER placed a male & a female hedgehog in the same cage for any amount of time, I'm sure you know.actually i dont ever know shes pregnant!!! too bad! she stay with her boy... demnn my fault! i let her be with her boy only for 2days suddenly shes giving birth in same cage with boy.. shes eating shes own babies not the male... i dont ever think she was preg! She ate them because you should have taken the male hedgehog out right after you found out she had babies. I've read on Chins&Hedgies where someone had the same issue as you. I hope you've removed the male. QUOTE(rexeren @ Aug 26 2011, 12:14 PM) No, not recommended. I've seen the largest one & it won't fit an adult hedgehog once your hedgie grows older. Not a wise investment. |

Woah, are you planning on becoming a breeder?
I can't wait till I can sell the babies. They're becoming somewhat of a burden now. |

QUOTE(ddr3 @ Aug 28 2011, 04:50 PM) Not necessarily.Depends how hard they chomp down, I guess. My dad was bitten before & his finger was just fine. The tip is try not to pull away when they bite (I know it goes against your basic instinct but stop pulling away if it refuses to let go) & blow in their face. They will let go. |

Ahahaha. xD
I ate McD earlier & all 3 babies bit my finger after that. x( I guess the smell of chicken remained on my fingers. @ EugeneLowPNG : I don't feed my hedgies supermeal worms. I stopped feeding them mealworms last week because I got too lazy to clean up after the mealworms. I just stopped feeding the mealworms & let them starve to death. xD This post has been edited by TeliLeti: Aug 28 2011, 09:27 PM |

I have discovered that Huffy likes to play tug of war with tissue paper.
Once he grabs hold of the tissue, he brings it to his sleeping corner & makes a comfy bed out of them. xD |

Two of the young hedgehogs ate mealworms today. xD
I bought a new batch of mealworms yesterday + a can of yeast. Fed the worms a small cup of oats, a teaspoon of yeast, half a teaspoon of calcium powder and a small banana. They're HUGE today. This post has been edited by TeliLeti: Aug 30 2011, 10:40 PM |

@ddr3 : Yes, they go through another quilling process at 6 months. Huffy went though it a few week ago.
@ EugeneLowPNG : Odd quills will fall off once in a while. Nothing to be concerned about as long as the follicles are attached. QUOTE(Far_76 @ Sep 2 2011, 02:43 AM) A little question...do we need to feed hedgies worms/crickets? Can i just give a diet of cat food and veggies? Kinda not used to the idea of feeding animals with...other animals...hehe Hedgehogs CANNOT be vegetarians. xDIf you're concerned about feeding your hedgehog LIVE creatures, you can feed them a bit of cooked chicken as well. Hedgehogs are insectivores so I would suggest that you feed the hedgehog mealworms even though some argue that mealworms carry no beneficial nutrients for hedgehogs. Avoid using freeze-dried mealworms because they cause constipation. Here's all you need to know about their diet & all : http://www.freewebs.com/thehedgieden/hedgehogcare.htm This post has been edited by TeliLeti: Sep 2 2011, 03:10 PM |

QUOTE(sowhon @ Sep 4 2011, 09:36 AM) i need a wheel for rocky...the current seems to be too small for him since he has been putting on some weight for the passed few weeks... If you live in Klang Valley, you can find silent spinner rip-offs at RM80-ish in Pet Lovers Centre branches. anyone got any suggestion where can i get a bigger wheel to fit our hedgie? Who knew hedgies cost a bomb to rear, even after the initial cost of housing & food... I spent RM123 on 2kg of RC36 & RC32 yesterday at The Pet Family. Ramsden (where I usually buy as it's the cheapest where I live) closed down so I had to go to TPF. D: The young hedgehogs have begun running on the wheels. QUOTE(jitshiong @ Sep 4 2011, 12:51 PM) Rearing hedgehog is pretty cheap. For u it's a different case cos u r breeding them. The babies sure eat & poo a lot nowadays. x)If u only have one, it's not costly at all. RM20 a month? that's about all With just two hedgies earlier, 400g lasts for two months. QUOTE(MalaM3ntula @ Sep 4 2011, 01:03 PM) Hello to all the hedgie lovers..Im new here I've read somewhere online before that some female hedgies just don't like certain male ones.My friends male hedgie is a proven breeder, so is my albino female, however, this two hedgie won't mate with each other..why ah?? |

@ Arawin92 : I wouldn't recommend leaving your hedgie alone for 1 week. Try finding a friend to pet-sit for you.

QUOTE(ix3Rukia @ Sep 5 2011, 10:56 PM) You mean RC36 is SMALLER, right? Hedgehogs that are 1 years old & above eat RC32. RC36 is meant for hedgehogs below 1 years old as it contains a higher percentage of fat than RC32. QUOTE(Arawin92 @ Sep 5 2011, 11:03 PM) My home town IS jb...if I can't figure out.I can't get her...is 5day ok? Like I clean up n leave on saturday n she lives alone from sunday-thurs and I will be back on friday to care for her. Again, leaving a hedgie unattended for more than 3 days is not recommended. However, if you really have no choice, make sure you put a LOT of water (make sure it won't tip over/get pooped or peed on) & plenty of kibble. |

I accidentally poked myself in the thumb with one of the baby's fallen quills today. That drew blood. Boo.
Chubster lost quite a bit of fur on her forehead. I don't think it's a mite problem, just really dry skin. I applied some oil on her forehead yesterday night because I noticed that it was reddish & had spots of blood. Today, small patches of the dried skin fell off with the fur on it. She looks like she has eyebrows now. Little white eyebrows, just above both eyes. If you travel for long hours with a hedgehog, take frequent breaks if possible. Stop by at rest areas & check if it's okay. Cuddle a bit before continuing on. This post has been edited by TeliLeti: Sep 7 2011, 10:06 PM |

Yellow stuff on the EARS? No.The dried skin on Chub's forehead was yellow but that's because I applied oil on her skin. Do the ears look tattered? If it does, you may have a mite problem. Hmm, doesn't look like dry skin to me. D:
If it's a dry skin problem, you will see little, white flakes of dead skin. Since you're in JB & probably don't know any vets, try bathing your hedgie & see if the problem goes away? Apply some oil & see if it can kill the fungal infection or something? Might as well try any method that you know before visiting a vet. |
