2. price?

I was considering getting a gecko - but then I stumbled upon this thread and omg! Hedgehog #FTW ! Lol

So now I'm very seriously considering getting a hedgehog, I have inquired with some breeders in the pet store section.

Any tips for a new hedge owner? In terms of housing, care etc? - I have read the entire front page, just looking for added tips smile.gif

Thanks.

JUST GOT MY S&P TODAAYYYYY..

Awesome lil' creatures I tell you - so cute !
Stu is sleeping in his enclosure now. Quite active, within few hours of coming to his new home, he started exploring and sniffing around.

However he is still a little edgy when I put my hands near (although he come to sniff my fingers)

Hopefully will be able to lift him up tomorrow smile.gif

Yep got it from Leon - I think he is still in the business now, but come Nov everything will be passed on to his sister.

Guys my hog still hisses a bit when I try to pick him up. He's okay with my hands in the cage but the moment I get too close he balls up.

Any tips on how to pick him up without scaring the daylights out of him ?

Guys - just a quick question.

If a hedge scratches does that mean guarantee got mites ? My SnP (Just got like 1 week ago) scratches occasionally.

I mean not like accessive scratching - just like the normal occasional scratching - not extended scratching just normal brief ones.

Is this behavior normal ?

Umm no I have not noticed any fallen quills - I have also inspected his body very closely, no white stuff walking around. So I guess should be safe for now lol.

How to apply olive oil ? With a paint brush ?

O wise ones. I bought some mealworms - but my hedgie just smells and walks away.

I know of the art of cutting them in half and stuff - but that's just too gross :S

Any other way to introduce mealworms to my hedgie.

What I did was just to leave 2 worms in his meal bowl hoping that since they are in his meal bowl he will figure out that they are to be eaten.

Update: I cut a mealworm in half and placed it in my hedgie's sleeping place, then I left two more in his food bowl. Left it overnight.

Come morning - boom all gone biggrin.gif

Hey guys - how much do you feed yr hedgies ? I feed mind a mix of the kitten food pallets and mealworms.

I have a small food bowl (around 2.5 inches diameter) - I fill it till the base is 80% full and top that with about 6 to 8 mealworms every night. By morning it's empty so before I go to work I top it up with a little kitten food (around 4 or 5 pellets)

Is this sufficient? Am I over / under feeding? Do let me know. Thanks.
