Hello there fellow Hedgie lovers, I'm a new hedgie mum who just got my girl a week ago from gfan50.

She's around 1 month and 2 weeks old and she is named Nephthys, in short, Neftie.

Nice to meet you guys =D and hope you don't mind me asking lots of questions once a while X_x

Just had her first bath today =D Used a big cat litter box as her portable home (when i go to my bf's place) and also her swimming pool/bath tub.

First day at my house, she lives in a cat cage, and don't worry the whole floor is covered up with fleece so her foot won't fall through

user posted image
she looks like she's laughing, but she's actually just eating while being all defensive XD

user posted image
she loves to pee and poo while running around my bed =3=

I heard they will pee and poo when they run around, so i brought her to the park yesterday, but she didn't run at all, just stayed close to my feet and turn into a ball everytime someone walk pass... the only place she will freely (and happily) run around (and pee and poo) is on my bed....

my bed become her litter box

Thanks for the welcome =D

I'm a person who is terrified of needles since young (got trauma due to injection since young) so handling my girl was kinda hard for me at first as i am wary of her pricks. She's been pretty nice to me by putting her spikes down now but i still don't dare to hold her in my palm while she is in 'terbalik and in half ball form' ;_; kinda envious how CelestialChaos so easily picked up Durian even when it was in ball form and clicking and jumping in his palm X_x i mean it looks so ... OUCH yet he said he was already used to it D:

Olivur> true, tho she still huff and puff every time i visit her cage but only cools down when i let her smell my hand.

And every time i put her outside her cage to run around its pretty amusing to see her try to get back in the cage through the bars. this is the first pet i have that actually wants to stay in a cage so desperately O.o

bluswhitehat> at pet shops the cheapest I've seen around rm300+ tho there are cheaper ones i think. in the forum its around rm100+ tho. Dangerous or not is up to how you handle it and if you have kids around i think, coz so far I've not experience any danger O:

Wheels *_* any idea where to get a big wheel? I'm worried Neftie isn't getting enough exercise coz she sleeps and sleeps and sleeps

and how much mealworms to feed a 1 month + hedgie? and what other cat food is recommended for hedgies other thn royal canin?

ah i see... Coz I'm worried feed her too much and same time worried the worms will die before l even used up half of them... the worms are also freaking my housemate out XP

For natural balance, any of them is fine? Or must it be a specific one?

Interesting, the canned worms and crickets are tempting too (no more taking care of live worms that attracts ants X_x ) and also that nice running wheel they have but rm100 X_x

I've look up on the wheels and running balls at Sunway Pyramid's pet lover shop but most of them are cracked >.>

Telileti> Ah i see, well back to taking care of a bunch of worms thn XD (hope my landlord don't chase me out coz of it haha) How much is the wheels sold there?

Today lots of my worms have changed color O: Those that shed their skins are white and some that died are black.. and the remaining ones are yellow (racist worms XD)

And Neftie knows her way back into the cage already, every time i take her out from her cage she immediately runs back in =3=

QUOTE(TeliLeti @ Sep 25 2011, 08:26 AM)
Your landlord won't even know it if you keep the worms in a tiny container. wink.gif
It should be the same price as the other branches in M'sia.
If I'm not mistaken, it's RM85.90 or around that price range.
More than 80 but less than 90, that's for sure.

I have to buy my female SnP back because the owner had an emergency. I guess I'd have a bit of time left with her before I have to sell her again.  unsure.gif

EDIT: I checked the price of the wheel & it's RM85.80. smile.gif I even took a picture of it but I lost the cable for my phone so...  blush.gif
*

O: well that's an okay price i'll let you know when i wanna get it, thanks so much for offering to help smile.gif

gosh thn maybe i should stop feeding Neftie the worms coz i bought it not long ago from ss 14 .. how does this black plague look like?

inbetweeners> I'm also pretty new with Hedgehog (just got mine few weeks ago) and so far mine has been a really good girl, just that for now she rather spend her time in her box and sleeping thn coming out to play (she only comes out to eat and drink) that could be coz she's still pretty young (1 month +)

If I'm not wrong its up to how you treat em, if you always do something that scare them they will end up as bad tempered hedgie that rather spend its time alone and always on defensive mode, but if you get em to trust you they will be like little angels (aka spikes down) and may even be delighted to see you (tho they can still be a bit moody when you wake em up)

Don't take my word for it tho, see what the others say, different hedgie+ different owner= different experience =D

and about cats, my bf has cats too and i sometimes bring my girl to his house. Its best to keep the hedgie away from the cats, especially if its still getting used to the environment and in progress of bonding with you. The cats might cause pressure and nervousness to the new hedgie. But today I let my cat (which stays with my bf) meet my girl and my cat was more afraid of my girl than the other way around XD My cat did try to touch her, but of course the spikes stopped her from doing anything more thn that

Olivur> omg, so cute! due to the ears she looks like a piglet with quills! /melts wub.gif I can't take nice pics like that coz my camera's shutter speed is too slow for a fast moving hedgie OTL

which one do you recommend? coz i'm worried Nephtie will out grow the wheel as i heard some hedgies can grow pretty large, and mine seems big for a 1 month-er D:

So conclusion DIY wheels are better than commercial ones /facepalm

My Nephtie is still not active yet (stays in her box all day and only comes out to eat and drink and poop) so i think I'll just bring her to the park every evening to exercise when she starts being active...

ddr> no idea, mine just pee and poo everywhere, recently even in the places she sleeps =3=

Telileti> ouch, maybe try wearing a in house slipper D: oh and the wheel you mentioned, is it as big as the wodent wheel?

olivur>I did, but she hardly moves a step from where i put her down. she juz.. sits there... I have to crouch near her for her to move a few steps around and here i thought i can sit on the bench and watch her run around the greens XD

-----------------------------------------------

Saw that quite a few of my mealworms died, worried that its the plague, apparently its coz of lack of water... coz when i put a wet cotton pad in... this happened in a matter of seconds

Well yeah.. I am kinda lazy XD Well lemme know when you're free to come over to pyramid or somewhere near there. I don't know if Nepthie is ready for the wheel but just in case it goes out of stock or something /:

I wanna see Nephtie run too ;_; i'm worried that she has lack of exercise and might become obese or something D:

LOL i find it kinda funny when they run the wheel.. they keep peeing and pooing thinking tht they have left their pee and poo behind but it just keeps coming back to them XD It's like 'omg my pee and poo is coming back to haunt me DDD:' okay that was lame >w>

Ken.B and Olivur> I've switched to oats, now i just need to get vege (always eat out so don't have vege at home, sucks too be a student D:) I tried banana previously... but the ants in my room went wild.... (another reason why i don't eat or cook at home, the ants here are crazy fast to detect food)

I'm kinda soft hearted when it comes to living things (except humans and plants) so err... I feel bad killing.. even ants OTL /shoots self

What happens when they get wet? O: The meal worms i mean, tho i didnt wet them, juz the cotton.. will go out to buy vege later

I hope Rosie is okay, I have not enough experience to help though D: I shall try googling
Edit: all i found is this... Diarrhea and vomiting: If your hedgehog is experiencing either of these, remove all foods and offer only a small amount of water. If the symptoms do not clear up or it is severe, you will need to take him to a veterinarian.

oh and is guinea pig ball okay for hedgehogs? coz it was recommended in one of the hedgehog how to sites and it would be nice that she can run around in a room in a ball where she won't get hurt or run into holes

GOSH! Nephthys gave me a huge scare this morning, she suddenly went missing X_x made me so crazy worried that she ran downstairs and disappeared. Need to rampage the whole room in search of her, which I found her poop here and there, which means this wasn't the first time she left the toilet to go exploring around my room. Finally found her in a box under my roommate's bed...

Now i'm wide awake even tho i haven't slept since last night O_O

She needs a wheel no doubt...

I think she emo and left her box coz i stuff my t-shirt in it for her to snuggle with last night, maybe she don't like my smell Q_Q
