5 days is okay if you use those dog-size feeding bowl for both food and water but not more than one week.
my hedgehog gave birth during CNY and i don't wanna stress her out. so i've tested and found out that the food can last for a week. however, make sure that the bowl is large enough.. the price is around RM 7. made of clay. |

QUOTE(MalaM3ntula @ Sep 10 2011, 01:16 AM) If she's worried that they can't move around, then buy ur hedgie an exercise wheel or make one. Mind elaborating on the usage of charcoal?? What's activated charcoal? I'm noob leh... Any kinda poo will be smelly, what's important is u clean it daily.. Again, it will be easier for you to litter train ur hedgie, start when they are young. Using charcoal will help, activated charcoal works better to reduce smell.. @rukia: you can ask for stud service in pet store i think since they're not social pets. QUOTE(sowhon @ Sep 16 2011, 12:30 AM) U guys didn't provide any hide box for your hedgie? Like what I did, just an ice-cream container with a piece of fleece solve any digging problem... What's more hurting themselves...lol Actually, they like to dig by nature. Just let them dig... haha QUOTE(olivur @ Sep 16 2011, 12:48 AM) something totally bizarre happened ._. Don't worry. It's most probably the smell. take this for an example. my friend apply mask on her face, meanwhile, she play with her sugar glider. When she goes near the cage, the sugar glider got shocked and jump backwards. Haha. lil CLICKED at me and curled up for the first time ever when i tried to carry her just now. codicil* prolly cause i smelled different since i used super glue on a cut i had on my palm :s Try observe her behaviour and see if there's anymore clicking. Good luck This post has been edited by Ken.B: Sep 16 2011, 11:59 AM |

QUOTE(Devilene @ Sep 27 2011, 08:21 AM) Saw that quite a few of my mealworms died, worried that its the plague, apparently its coz of lack of water... coz when i put a wet cotton pad in... this happened in a matter of seconds try putting some vege for them. they don't eat rice. you can give them bread and oat. ![]() the cotton might be too humid. good luck!! Added on September 27, 2011, 10:38 am QUOTE(TeliLeti @ Sep 27 2011, 08:31 AM) xD I should go buy those bunny house slippers. Hmm, it's big enough for a hedgehog? I wouldn't recommend using wodent wheels as well since it makes it difficult for hedgies to exit once they're done running. I don't see an issue with using a silent spinner (rip-off) since I've never had a case where the hedgie's nails got caught betwen the slit. If you can DIY, definitely do so. If you're too lazy like me, buy the RM85.80 one. xD I wish I had 'greens' for my hedgies to run about. The nearest 'green' that I have is a large field that's overgrown and unused, which makes me rather hesitant in bringing them there since they could all run in different directions. QUOTE(sowhon @ Sep 28 2011, 08:36 AM) the ants problem can be solved easily with the "ant powder" that can be bought in any hardware shops or pasar malam....only cost around rm0.50 to rm1 per pack.... Unfortunately, ants at my place knows how to avoid those powder as for the mealworms, do not wet them with any water at all....like suggested by the others, oats + carrots will be the best feed..... btw, i saw alot of vomit in Rosie's home yesterday...now i starting to get worried as she is not eating the kibbles and drink very little water daily....all she do it sleep and running on the wheel when she is awake....will take one or two mealworms sometimes but thats all it...she will stop eating right after that... Added on September 28, 2011, 11:39 am QUOTE(olivur @ Sep 28 2011, 09:03 AM) codicil* I'm not sure about this. it just hit me. is it really safe to feed our hogs mealworms gut loaded with oats? i doubt the mealworms actually digest the oats that well and mind you oats absorbs a lot of fluid. they continue doing so even once in the stomach. stomach ulcer caused by consuming dried oats is nothing but common to those (humans) that don't consume lots of water after doing so. and from what i observe lil doesn't either. food for thought. Somehow, my mealies seems to get infertile. Perhaps a long generation of inbreeding? I've kept them for around 7 - 8 months. Anyone with the same duration and face the same problem? QUOTE(sowhon @ Sep 28 2011, 04:08 PM) yau mou....dun tell me the ants in Kampar only eat McD (bandar baru)....haha You live in Bandar Baru currently??? surprise.. haha... my hometown in Kampar btw Ken..... Added on September 28, 2011, 4:11 pm wow it bleeds....but u were saying not pain? lucky my Rosie attempt to bite me was foiled when i swiftly pull my hands away the other day right before her teeth sinked into my palm...she was sniffing, licking and about to bite as i felt here teeth slip on my skin.... I saw it with my own eyes, the ants take a detour around the powder. Added on September 29, 2011, 10:44 am QUOTE(mav_850 @ Sep 28 2011, 10:20 PM) LoL.. why everyone kena gigit? That's cute! i never kena before.. maybe your hand got food smell? hehehehe is it hurt? or bleeding? my angry hog also never bite me even i play his nose using my finger! Added on September 29, 2011, 10:44 am QUOTE(rexeren @ Sep 28 2011, 04:33 PM) Ok about this,, I have sort of a weird and bad experience in this.. I was cleaning cottie's cage and she came to me and sniff my fingers, when I see her open her mouth to bite, I wanted to avoid by pulling my hand away, but she got me first.. And together I yank my hand with her biting on me and she FLEW to the side and hit the wall of the cage.. but she is fone nevertheless. I hope T.T I flung my boy once too.. that's sad... I was reading the newspaper and brought my boy out to run around. Suddenly, he bit me and I pull my hand instinctly. He rolled on the floor a few times I feel sad for myself as an owner.. QUOTE(rexeren @ Sep 29 2011, 04:52 PM) I'm thinking of gettin superworm for my girl, read online that you'll need to chop off the worms' heads before feeding to your hoggie to avoid its biting. Any owner doing that? Do share what did u used to cut it off... Of course I am talking about live ones.. Not canned. Thank you! it's okay.. superworms biting are just myths.. |
