hi all

this is my case :
i'm in overseas and will be goin back to malaysia and HK for a holiday trip

i would like to know it is possible for me to open a bank account in malaysia ( my old maybank closed cause i've been overseas a few years )
You still have a valid MyKad right ? Of course you can.

QUOTE(y_owez @ Nov 10 2011, 08:06 PM)
and how can i get a credit card for holiday? i know need Jslip form all that.but i dont have all those and i dont have a credit card overseas
- Option A
Show them your payslip from the company you are working in now even though the company is not in Malaysia. No guarantee this will work though. Malaysians working in Singapore have no problem applying for a credit card using such method.

- Option B
Do you have RM200,000 ? Remit RM200,000 back to Malaysia and open a HSBC Premier Account at HSBC or Citigold at Citibank or CIMB Preferred Account at CIMB Bank. They will issue you a credit card without the need to show them your proof of income.

Option B is much easier, to be honest. Good luck!

Another option besides credit card is get a debit card which are issued by Citi, MBB and UOB on the spot . PBB debit cards are pretty good for online but it will take about 2 weeks for you to get the card.

But since you are overseas most of the time, no point getting cards from here, better get a debit card from where you are.

For Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card, it will be issued on the spot at any Public Bank branch. Another option is CIMB Bank. It just came out with a new debit card that is linked to your savings or current account at the bank and this card is issued on the spot too.

Hmm... you can try Citibank. Apply it from the agent and tell them you need it fast. They will send in your application on the next working day. Last time i applied mine, it took 7 days (including weekends) for the card to reach me.

That is the maximum interest the bank can charge you in a year.

That is indeed great, but I suppose the card won't have the card holder's name on it. Better than waiting weeks for the Electron card, however the electron card do have advantage where it earns one more for general spending compared to D2D. Now that I know the card can be issued on the spot, I am considering to get it for my online transactions, thanks for the info.

Scenario :
If i'm approved for a World Mastercard from Bank A (Requirement Rm72k annual income)

Would I be approved for World Mastercard from Bank B (Requirement Rm100k annual income)

note : my annual income does not reach 100k, my question is will Bank B check proof of my annual income or just see that I already have a World Mastercard from Bank A ?

What are the current process they check to approve a credit card?

In which order do they check?

-annual income
-credit limit
-similiar credit card from other bank

No. No name on the card. Just a few years ago i had to search high and dry for a debit card that allows me to do online transaction. Now we have so many choices cry.gif Not saying it's a bad thing but it really made my life harder then laugh.gif

Sure. No problem.

By the way, if you already have their ATM Card, just bring it and get a replacement card on the spot. Card conversion is free smile.gif

No. Things have changed since the new credit card rules come into force. Application rules have changed as well.

Most banks require you to furnish your application with your annual income statement now if you do not currently hold any card from the bank. However, if you are an existing credit cardholder with the bank, there is still a big chance they are going to request you to show them your latest proof of income, especially if you are applying for a higher ranking credit card.

U may need to submit your income documents for verification purposes.

Which bank WMC is request 100K annual income? The bank A you refer to is SCB "Preferred WMC", right?

i guess in few years time,
platinum card just like gold card,
wmc just like current platinum card.

credit limit keep reducing, remember last time requirement for my platinum card just like current wmc/vi

at rm72k annual income for wmc, i dont see much exclusivity of holding mine anymore. (although scb require aum of 72k to avoid high fees, and minimun daily balance of 6k)

wondering what's next name for mc/visa.

yes, it is the SCB preferred world mastercard. any difference of SCB preferred world mastercard with a normal world mastercard? how come the requirement so big difference ?

Standard Chartered Preferred World Mastercard for its Preferred Banking customers. Min annual income of 72k or AUM RM 72k above.

SCB's is a Preferred WMC and like I mentioned in my article on Premier cards, if there is a Preferred or Premier before the WMC, then it is equivalent to Visa Signature as far as I am concerned. Actually the Visa Signature got more benefits then Preferred/Premier WMC.

MBB and CIMB WMC so called annual income requirement is RM200K

As for SCB WMC, I think winner did mention somewhere he is going to cancel it. Not much benefits I guess.
