QUOTE(triny @ Oct 23 2011, 10:17 PM)
hello, i have been searching around looking for my first credit card, every time i passed by credit card booth, i stood down and make enquiry, but i never want to commit, as i wanted to get the right one for me (as if i am searching for bf,geez)
These are my information, for your recommendation, thank you in advance
Annual Income: RM30K to RM36K
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Must
3. Card required for: Cash Back/Rebate (priority), Petrol rebate ( i spend on petrol about RM 60-100 per month)
4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: any except MBB
6. Others: i preferred cash back, discount or bonus link point. i heard that MBB double cc in which the amex card offers 10% discount for every usage during weekend which is so wonderful, however, i do not wish to take mbb credit card. looking for similar offer. i am also looking for cc which exempt from paying rm50 service fees (i.e. either by redemption of point, number of swipe). most of the time i only spend during weekend/holiday
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Less than RM 400 (based on estimation RM50-grocery, RM 100 petrol, food and random shopping)
triny, too bad you don't want MBB 2 which is good for weekends.
Since you only prefer Cash Back (which I think is the right choice based on your spending), I would recommend either UOB One Card (income requirement RM24K/yr) or OCBC Titanium MasterCard (income requirement RM36/yr). Both these card entitle you to 5% cash back for petrol. For grocery UOB earn you 2% whereas OCBC 5%. However for dining and random shopping, the UOB only earns you cash back of 0.3% only versus OCBC TMC 5% for dining and 1% for shopping. However, UOB One Card earns you 2% at Guardian, Watson and Carings.
Assumption for UOB One Card (**Edited**):
you spend RM100/month for petrol, the cash back you'll get is RM5.00
you spen RM50/month on grocery, the cash back is RM1
you spend RM250/month for places that only earn you 0.3%, the cash back is RM0.75 (worst case, can be more and you may also earn additional SMART$ Cash)
Total cash back per month = RM.6.75/month or RM81/year
Less RM50 GST you will earn RM31 for the year. And if you pump at BHP, based on RM100/month, you can earn SMART$2 per month or RM24/year where you can use it to redeem for petrol.
versus Maybankard 2 Card if you spend only on weekends at merchants that accept AMEX, you earn RM400X5% = RM20/month (and also 2000 Treats Points per month where you only need 10,000 TP to offset GST)
For UOB One Card, the annual fee is waived if you swipe 12 times but no GST waiver.
For OCBC TMC, the annual fee is also waived if you swipe 12 times and GST "waived" if you spend RM10K/year.
Click here to read my article on UOB One Card. Look at the tables and do a comparison between UOB One Card and OCBC TMC to see how much cash back you may earn based on places you spend your money. If you opt for UOB One Card, best if you can pump petrol at BHP where you will also earn SMART$ Cash and BHP reward points. The other thing to note is that it was reported that new applicant for UOB One Card are entitled to RM88 credit. Go read UOB Thread and ask members there.

terrabbas, please refer above reply to triny.
Try apply OCBC Titanium MasterCard since it gives you cash back of 5% for Utilities too. Also look into Maybankard 2 Cards if you spend on weekends.
