Maybankard 2 cards would be good for you since petrol is not a priority and thus you can get more cash back on any transactions on weekends. Try apply for it even tho the minimum annual income requirement is RM30K. Many merchants do offer 0% installment for MBB cards. AS for discount for food and outlets, I suggest you go check out CIMB, HSBC, UOB and Citibank cards and see which card offers you discount at places you spend your money. If you cannot qualify for MBB 2 cards, the only option with your income is UOB One Card but the cash back is not that great for online and non petrol and non groceries transactions.

Lately, many people here earning less than RM3K/month stating they spend RM3K a month shocking.gif Having a credit card can make you overspend and entices you to spend on things you otherwise cannot afford. I highly recommend you guys who are spending more than your monthly salary and wanting to do installment plan read my following articles.

Guide to my articles in my blog.

Credit Cards are Cash Cow for Banks. Are You working for the Banks?

I happened to just write an article on CIMB and Maybankard 2 Cards approval within a day. Click here to read about it.

Below is what is stated in MBB site:

If you are an expatriate:

Letter from employer confirming duration of employment contract in Malaysia. Note: You must be a Maybank account holder.

**Edited**
Altenatively you can get a debit card from your bank. Get to withdraw cash overseas too from ATM machines without daily interest charges but 1 time fee.

You can either get UOB One Card where you earn 5% cash back for petrol everyday up to RM600 or cash back RM30 or Maybankard 2 Cards where you use the Amex for petrol and the visa or MasterCard for online transaction since. Go to UOB and MBB 2 threads to read more.

Putting the Education Bill aside because it should be more than RM1K, the card for petrol and dining is OCBC Titanium MasterCard where you get 5% cash back. Or get Maybankard 2 Cards and get 5% cash back plus 5X TP for the AMEX and where AMEX not accepted you got Visa or MAsterCARd.

For education, there is an OCBC card that earns you 1.5% cash back. But read thier terms and conditions carefully. If the Education bill is alot and you want installment plan, CIMB and RHB currently offer 0% plan. click here to read more about OCBC Great Eastern CArd at OCBC site.

Both of you: click here to read my article on UOB One Card and I have 2 tables showing comparison of cash back cards.

Tq for suggestion. I did research on this.
My education fee should be 3 times in year. around rm15xx~17xx per semester.
They only accept visa or master.

Planning to pay using CC, as I can get 10% discount and pay to bank as installment in 4 months. So, I can clear up my fee before next semester.

Do you think it's good step? Please guide me as I'm new into this area.

If yes, sounds like good if I choose Maybankard 2 card for my first CC

IF you are saying that you are going to have outstanding balance and paying interest, then I will say NOT a good practice.

My recommendation is always pay in full your credit card bill prior to Due Date and not pay a single sen of interest. If you follow this principle, you will never end up in the siht hole.

As for installment plan, most cards offer some kind of plan where you can convert your transaction to a installment plan with upfront interest of 1% or monthly interest but the duration is usually 12 months (in CIMB case 10 months 0% for education and insurance).

For your case, RM1.7K is not much, what you should do is pay in full for the coming semester and then start saving for the next term tuition fees.

I recommend you read my article Credit Cards are cash cow for banks. Are you wroking for the bank? -

Per month I did have my own saving into the ASB, which mean, most of my balance will lock into that account.

It's quite regret if take out the saving from ASB just to pay the fees. I'm chasing the dividen and bonus more than 6% per annum.

If you say so, maybe I can consider to reduce my saving in the next following months.

Man, tq for your input. I do hope you guide me if I'm go wrong in this matter.

Just for your info, CC interest rate for new holder is 17.5% which is much higher than 6% from ASB.

thanks for the recommendation, did check out your blog, for UOB platinum need to use 3k per annum(12swipes) in order to get the free annual fees. Probably its not a big deal as can meet it if I switch my insurance over to credit card billing.

Actually did some comparing before based on your website, I'm quite undecided between OCBC titanium and MBB 2 card , UOB kinda fall short on certain category based on your table. Was thinking of switching over insurance and internet bill to credit card instead as well.

another thing is mastercard and amex is it widely used nationwide/worldwide/online? all along been using visa debit, and supp. visa card.

Bro, go calculate the amount you can get with OCBC, UOB and MBB 2 AMES like what I did in my table and see which car benefit you most. For insurance, OCBC will give you 1% cash back, MBB 2 Visa or MasterCard 0.5% in terms of vouchers (most insurance company do not accept AMEX except Takaful) and UOB 0.3%. Just have to remeber that OCBC cash rebate is capped at RM50. But for petrol, OCBC better as we get 5% cash back everyday and accepted at Petronas (which is good if we go outstation along the highways).

Actually, I would say OCBC better than UOB if your expenses is like less than RM1K per month. How come I did not recommend to you earlier doh.gif Swipe 12 times annual fee waive and spend RM10K GST absorb.

Seriously, Visa nad MasterCard no diff in Malaysia as far as merchants acceptance is concerned.

okies , thanks alot. I think I will go for the OCBC titanium card instead as my first credit card, using the calculator in OCBC website, most probably I won't hit the rm50 cap a month anyway, not a big spender here (this includes my food, leisure, petrol, tmnut bills) laugh.gif

yeah , just want to confirm the usage of mastercard blush.gif
