1. Annual Income: RM100K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Retail purchases

4. Existing credit cards if any: Maybank2 cards, OCBC Titanium, Citibank Cash Back Platinum

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Anything

6. Others: Anything

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: About 1.5k.

Most of the time I've maxed out both the RM50 limit of Maybank2 card and OCBC Titanium. I'm looking for another card as a backup to get the max out of cash back benefit. The citibank cash back platinum is only used for petrol as a backup on weekday. Is the Standard Chartered Business Platinum a good one for me?

Maybankard Petronas if you pump at Petronas else consider HSBC Amanah where you get the annual waived with 12 swipes.

1. Annual Income: RM36K
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must
3. Card required for: Overseas Online Transaction
4. Existing credit cards if any: Citibank Gold (Supp)
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Maybank (I heard their administration cost is only 0.5% while other banks charge more)
6. Others: I buy things from online regularly. Some of my shopping sites do not accept PayPal..so I need a credit card. I thought any credit card will be good for me until I found out that Maybank offers the lowest admin cost. I also read that Mastercard's exchange rate is better than Visa. Read from some threads here.
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Around RM2k

You are on the right track, go apply for MBB2 Cards and use the MC for overseas transaction. And I believe even with the MBB 2 MC x1 TreatsPoints, you still get better benefit compared to your Citibank in terms of points redemption.

Maybankard 2 AMEX generally not accepted at Petronas. Yah, OCBC TMC best for you.

Huh? my math must be bad, How you max out both MBB2 and OCBC when you spend only RM1.5K? And even if you do max out the MBB 2 AMEX CB, you still earn approximately 2.5% with the 5X TP.

The thing is, with another 1% cash back CC, you'll need to spend extra RM5000 a year on the new card just to break even with the RM50GST.

Sorry Gen-X, there was a typo. The spending per month is around 2.5k. I'm asking about another CC because there are many merchants in melaka that doesnt accept amex.

Bro, you did not give a breakdown of your expenses. Noted you have Citibank Plat Cash Back and therefore I assume you would have use it for petrol in order not to use up your Cash Back allocation for MBB 2 and OCBC TMC. So I guess you looking into SCB Business Plat is in the right direction. Unless you need another card for petrol, then look into UOB One Card.

As for SCB Business Plat, go check out if the points redemption is worthwhile comparing it to Alliance Plat (free with 12 swipes). I believe Alliance Plat do give you better cash back (up to RM5K per month) compared to SCB Business Plat.

Another option is HLB Essential which does give you 1% unlimited cash back but nothing for petrol.

Alternative, if you want 2% cash back for all your non online transactions, go open an Alliance Privilege Banking Account and get their Premier Debit Card.

But like I said, if you spend RM5K a year with 1% effective CB CC, you ain't earning anything and wasting your time. Maybe using your MBB 2 Visa or MasterCard with 1X TP (0.5% equivalent CB) is even a better alternative since it comes with no extra cost and time to you.

haha, maybe you better not get a credit card since you are not good in saving money and said you will go get new phone after getting a CC (double die in Hokkien, hahaha).

Point is - you don't need a credit card to get a new phone. Either you have the cash or don't.

But if you still die die want CC, get Maybankard 2 Cards or OCBC Titanium MasterCard and you'll benefit more from them.

suggest you read my series of articles on credit card by clicking here to the prelude to start off.

The credit cards that meets your requirements have annual fees (but can be waived) except for SCB Visa Infinite is you have Priority Banking.

If you are earning RM30K and pump petrol at ESSO or Shell (check if your petrol station accept AMEX), then get Maybankard 2 Cards. Else you can get the UOB One Card to earn 5% cash back for petrol BUT for general transactions, the cash back is pathetic at 0.3%.

Actually AMBank Carz card not too bad for petrol. Don't you get the card for FREE since you are a staff?

Alliance Bank also not to bad since you earn cash back plus points and annual fee waive with 12 swipes. I guess in the meantime, you can't be picky and once your income hits RM36K/year, go get OCBC Titanium MasterCard.

since you spend most of your money on Petrol, Dining and Groceries AND above RM2K- you should get both MBB 2 Cards and OCBC Titanium MasterCard. Click here to read my review of Maybankard 2 Cards versus OCBC Titanium MasterCard..

For purely online transactions for gadgets purposes, I myself prefer to use Debit Card because you can then control the damage (due to fraud or accidentally charging it).

Try Public Bank Debit Cards (and treat them like prepaid Card), they have branches everywhere to deposit cash. You can open a PBB savings account (not necessary) and link the Debit Card and thus you can pay bills online too. All my children have HLB and PBB Debit cards and got no issue to purchase stuff online.

If you want a credit card, get Maybankard 2 Cards and you won't have problems using the Visa or MasterCard for your online transactions. The cards are Free For Life.

As for opening online account for CC, not necessary as your will receive monthly statement and will have adequate time to make payment. But if you are familiar with online banking, yah sure, it's FREE to sign up for online account and it is more convenient to make payment.

I myself use RHB Debit Card linked to my savings account for my online transaction and the security is not bad as they will sent a One Time Password to my phone.

Once again, since you are new to credit card, I suggest you click here to read my articles on Introduction to Credit Cards. And from there, you can go read my article on Maybankard 2 Cards.
