Hi guys,

Need advice from the experts as to which credit card to apply for. Basically, I'm into my first month of a new job. Will I qualify to apply for a credit card now? Have worked for 2 years but took 1 month break prior to new job. Heard there must be 3 months continuous employment?

1. Annual Income: Approx RM55k

2. Annual Fee: Preferably none or minimal

3. Card required for:

a) Business trips overseas (Paying for hotel, food, transport, flight tickets) - Need one with higher credit limit - At least 5k a month?
b) Petrol

4. Existing credit cards if any:
None. I have a savings account with Maybank.

Thanks a lot.

I would suggest maybank 2 card. Its Maybank Visa/Master card gives good foreign exchange rate for your overseas trip, while you get 5% rebate (on weekends) + 5 points using its Amex for all types of payment including petrols (not accepted by majority petronas, majority). No annual fee.

Refer here for Maybankard 2 Gold and Platinum Cards thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2049548

1. Annual Income: RM48 to RM60K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Doesn't really matter if can be waived tongue.gif

3. Card required for: I've arranged it based on my priority.

a) Petrol (if possible, Shell)
b) Cash Back/Rebate,
c) Phone Bill
d) Others

4. Existing credit cards if any:
a) Citibank Shell Gold

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks:
Doesn't really matter which bank, looking for the best offer out there

6. Others: Please be specific.
a)I would like to look for cash back/rebate cc only, because i think points will be forfeited anyhow in future if i change the card.
b) Since CitiShell Gold change its requirement on the rebate, i think it is no longer the best credit card for petrol anymore. I used the citibank website calculator, and i found out that the Platinum cash back card is actually giving more rebate on my usage level. Is this true? Or there is other cc card with better offer out there?
c) I would like to have only one cc card (government tax doh.gif ), so if i apply the new one, i am gonna stop the shell gold card.

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card:
RM 300 - 400 on Petrol
RM 100 on Utility Bills

RM7000 annual for Insurance.

Since when Citi Shell was the best petrol card? Unless you had outstanding balance.

For petrol read this thread.

For your case, click here to learn more about the OCBC Titanium MasterCard. However if your insurance is paid yearly, then you may loose out with the OCBC Titanium MasterCard because the cash rebate is capped at RM50/month. But the good news is that with the insurance payment, you would have spent RM10K/year and that automatically qualifies you for RM50 GST waiver by OCBC smile.gif

1. Annual Income: RM36K - net income
RM42K - gross income

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes

3. Card required for: Listed according to my priority.

a) Local/Overseas Online Shopping at eBay etc (Mostly Overseas shopping, so a card that is internationally recognised would really help)
b) Petrol
b) Bills (Celcom, Unifi, TNB)
c) Shopping at Giants/Tesco/local groceries etc,

4. Monthly spending: 2k/month

4. Existing credit cards if any:
a) Maybank 2 Cards - Master + Amex

Special request: Look forward to know cards that don't require minimum number of swipes since I will use them mostly for online transaction.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks very much

with the money you earned from OCBC, you can have many "free" cups of coffee or movie tickets tongue.gif OCBC not much offer here but in Singapore you do get offers at many places.

To compliment your MBB2 Cards get OCBC Titanium MasterCard and earn 5% cash back for TNB, Celcom, Unifi,Tesco and Giant everyday. Click here to see where else you can earn 5% cash back with OCBC TMC[/b] compiled by ronnie.

As for overseas, your MBB 2 Cards should be good enough. Check out jchong's table at MBB 2 Cards Thread post #2, where he did a great job preparing a table to show foreign conversion rate for AMEX and MC

I've just applied for Hong Leong Classic through online application.
Submitted all the forms needed, pay slip, bank statement, photocopy of IC.

But received an sms today saying that they could not approve my application. Anybody had any idea for that?

Yearly income declared is RM 28,800 = basic salary.

For Petrol and GSC, UOB One Card. The One CArd earns you flat 5% cash back PLUS SMART$ Cash which will earn you more versus your Citibank Shell card.

For movies on Fridays, Citibank Clear Card. But the clear card is not a cash rebate card.
For TGV Cinemas on Saturdays - you Shell card gives you 1 For 1 Free movie ticket smile.gif click here for Citibank Credit Card Promotion 2012.

Hi GenX, I plan to use it to pump petrol ( Petronas ) mostly and also to get installment if I buy electronics like in Lowyat, or Electrical Store that sells TV and stuff. That's all!
