Hi there, this is my first time applying for credit card. I would like to know what is the major difference between Visa and MasterCard? From what I was told, there are no major differences, just that Visa is more recognize, please correct me if I'm wrong. I do travel occasionally and I would normally do monthly installment on certain purchases especially on electrical stuff and gadgets. I do not need rebate for petrol at the moment. Thanks for your time =D

Firstly, there is no such thing as the Best credit card. It depends entirely on where you spend your money and what you want in return. Having said that, click below link to read my article on best credit cards

The Best Top 10 Credit Cards in Malaysia 2012

If you are talking about overseas transactions, there is a slight difference between the conversion rates when comparing Visa versus MasterCard. Click below link and read 1st page and then for MBB Visa vs MC, go read jchong and zenquix post from post#170 onwards. If you ask me, most places that accept Visa also accept MasterCard. But, if kiasu like me, get Visa and MasterCard  biggrin.gif

And since you spend RM1K to RM2K, recommend you click below and read more on the following cards and then get both the cards.

OCBC Titanium MasterCard - you earn 5% cash back everyday for Petrol, Groceries, Telco Bills, TNB, Astro & Dining but the cash back is capped at RM50/month

Maybank 2 Cards - the MBB 2 AMEX earns you 5X Treats Points everyday PLUS additional 5% Cash back on Saturdays and Sundays. Once again, the 5% cash back is capped at RM50/month. The Maybank 2 Visa or MasterCard is accepted at many places for installment plans.

If you travel overseas often, better to get cards from 2 different card issuers just in case one can't go thru.

And since you are new to credit cards, click below link to read more:

Thanks for the detailed info. Well I meant best if there's annual fee waiver, sorry for the confusion. I would like to ask, do I choose either Visa or Mastercard with AMEX for Maybankard 2 card or do they instantly issue MC with AMEX? Another thing, what is the difference between Maybankard Gold and Platinum?

Bro, my bad, I just reread and realised it was my mistake and confused myself doh.gif

As Human Nature mentioned, nowadays it seems it comes with MC by default; but you can always specify you want Visa.

As for diff between Plat, besides what Human  Nature mentioned, if you play golf, the Plat offers free green fee at selected golf clubs.

Goto Maybankard Centre at 1U or KLCC and you can get the card in 2 hours or so. Of course you need to bring along the relevant docs.
Please follow template in 1st post. You may also want to check out Thread below

Thanks for the info, so there would be no other charges when I apply for platinum right? How much is the minimum credit limit for MBB Platinum card?

I find that Maybank2card is harder for approval compared to OCBC, or is it just me? I tried to apply for Maybank2card 3 times, all rejected, but my OCBC was approved on first try.
