2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must.

3. Card required for: Petrol, Air Ticket, Astro & Telco Auto Debit.

4. Existing credit cards if any: Public Bank (Visa) Gold.

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks:

6. Others: Please be specific. I've been using PB Visa for almost 2 years now, previously i had maybank Visa & Amex + Bank Islam Mastercard but i discarded these 2 early this year. Any good CC to use other than PB Visa? they offered me platinum, is it worth it with my little spending?

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Less than RM1K tongue.gif hehe..

OCBC Titanium MasterCard. Clck here to read about OCBC and Maybankard 2 Cards, where both are cash back cards and earns you more versus your current Public Bank credit card. Even the Maybankard 2 Visa or MAsterCard which earns you 1X TP is better than your PBB Gold in terms of returns. The link also has a table comparing different cash back cards.

I think no harm getting PBB Platnium over the Gold since the annual fee is also waived with 1 swipe per month. But I don't understand why you cancel your AMEX ( I assume is AMEX AMEX and not Maybankard 2 AMEX ) which can be used for all requirements and earn minimum 2X points which is much better than PBB Gold.

Thx for the link, it was a good read. OCBC Titanium Mastercard 5% cashback have this monthly capped of RM50 for its cash back n will get nothing once this cap is reach, OCBC good for spender less than rm1k.. like myself smile.gif

Come back to the CC, i was made to understand few months ago each of the banks(either visa or mastercard) imposed this one time transaction pin for any online purchases, the pin will have to be sent to the number you have entered for online transaction. This is a hassle to any workers working without any h/phone signal for a period of time. Luckily my PB cards was not one of the cards imposed for this one time transaction pin, i have my own pin which is the same pin i used for every transaction (come to think about it, its kinda not safe as this could expose to cc fraud/abuse), but the advantage is i can use my cc even while im working with no h/phone signal to receive the pin..

My PBB gold annual fee was not waived and charged to my bil in mid year, i had to call and ask them to waive it. (my annual swipe surpass 12x) luckily it was waive and the money return back on the next month bil.

It was maybankard amex, rarely used and since govt imposed on the service tax.. i decided to cancel all my unused cards.

I will try to dig more about this Citibank card.

Both of you, click the link on Cash Back Cards I posted in my reply to Redcapz above. There is a comparison table of cash back cards.

socaisocai, the link also have a link to my HLB Fortune Card article. Go read it and you will learn that with RM1K spending, the Fortune card is not for you, better you consider HLB Essential. And UOB earns you 0.3% for general transactions.

with your income, you have many options.

1st to consider is OCBC Titanium MasterCard where you can  earn 5% cash back for your Petrol and Dining and if your shopping include groceries. Only thing is the cash back is capped at RM50/month and no rewards points awarded.

Next will be Maybankard 2 Cards where you'll earn guaranteed 5X Treats Points and EXTRA 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays (also capped at RM50/month) if the merchants accept AMEX.  Many merchants do offer 0% installment plans for Maybank Visa and MasterCard and to see which merchants offer 0% installment plan for American Express click here.

Only thing is your movies, if you do indeed go often and on Fridays, then Citibank Clear Card is good. The UOB One Card which earns you 5% cash back for Petrol also earns you 5% cash back at GSC. Click here to read my article titled Best Credit Cards for Petrol and Movies.

Also go read 1st post where I gave links to my articles on Entry Level Cards and Platinum Cards.

Now, if the banks are not satisfied with your documents proofing you present income, just wait till April next year when you will have to submit your BE form. As for CL, no one knows. But if you really want high CL, the go get a American Express Charge Card.

You're welcome , but I have yet to reply yours tongue.gif

Anyway, I think you should get both OCBC Titanium and Maybankard 2 Cards since you spend more than more RM2K/month. Go find Earn Pocket Money with Credit Card thread and read my link. I lazy to post.

** Edited for Typos, tired yesterday and blur**
As for your HLB, only you can decide if it benefits you, if it does not, then ask yourself why you keeping it. I have it, only reason I keeping it is because of my fetish with credit cards, hahaha.

Citibank, check out if their promotion can benefit you, because besides petrol, it earn you less than 2% where as Maybankard 2 AMEX 5X Treats Points is better. Go to MBB 2 thread and read my links. My article did compare MBB2 with OCBC and Citibank.

I recommend both OCBC Titanium MasterCard and Maybankard 2 Cards since you spend more than RM1K. Both cards earns you cash back and if you plan well, you can get up to RM100 cash back per month.

Click here to read more about Maybankard 2 Cards. The MBB 2 AMEX earns you 5X Treats Points everyday and EXTRA 5% Cash back on Saturdays and Sundays. The MBB 2 Visa or MC is not too bad with 1X TP but the advantage is that MBB Visa and MC Admin Fee for overseas transaction is the lowest.

Also click here to read about other cash back cards like the OCBC Titanium MasterCard (which earns you 5% cash back for petrol, dining and utility bills) and see table I have prepared.

Hi, was thinking of getting my first cc =3
Already read lotsa post by Gen-X in your blog but I must admit, I need some guide blush.gif

1. Annual Income: RM24K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: List all your needs. Cash Back/Rebate, Booking of hotel rooms and air flights

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil.

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: List the Banks or List the card(s). I'll consider everything =3

6. Others: I don't think I'll be using cc alot. Just use it to purchase stuff that requires cc (like book hotel room and air flights). Got a Maybank Cherry card on hand but I don't think that can get me rooms in Genting ^^;;

For Entry Level cards use for non Petrol, Phone Bills and Pharmacy, your choices are

UOB One Card - CB 0.3%
Public Bank Classic - CB 0.3%
Citibank Cash Back Silver - 0.2% CB (and if you have Outstanding Balance, you can earn up to 2% cash back but this means you will be earning nothing but paying more in interest).
HSBC Visa Credit Card-i (Islamic Card) - 0.5% cash back

Seriously, if for convenience sake with little spending, I don't think you need a credit card because you have to pay RM50 GST every year. Like I mentioned in my article on Entry Level Cards, look into Public Bank Debit Card where you can earn 0.5% cash back and there is no GST but some cards have annual fees.

Having said above, it is good to have a credit card to build up your credit history/records.

You sure boh Genting don't accept Debit Cards. Try next time or go ask at Debit Card thread.

It seems like I need to reconsider applying for a cc ^^;; haha
I'll look up on the Public Bank Debit Card later.

Thanks again~!

few CCs are waive their annual fee or RM50 tax if you do transaction by your CC for specific amount or how many times you swipe it..

for example Bank A give you free annual fee but u need to swipe atlest 12 times, so may I swipe the card if the amount that I pay by my CC is <=RM50 ? or are there any minimum transaction that can be counted as 1 transaction ?

Hope you can understand smile.gif

Generally, for annual fee waiver requirements, 1 transaction = 1 swipe, any amount.
