Gen X, thx for the info, i think i will opt for the UOB becoz alam damai got 1 new branch there. i plan my spending on amex around rm1k to capped the rm50 rebate. usually 1 month my cc expense is around, total rm3.5k. And i really prefer the KLIA plaza premium lounge. But i heard UOB CS very bad, same like HL. Emmm, Alliance bank, i will try to avoid coz branch not much and so do their ATM.

Bro, welocme but like I said, you failed to give me your full requirements. Please note for UOB you only earn 0.3% cash back for general transactions and you must spend RM3K and swipe 12 times to get annual fee waived for the UOB One Card Plat. If you want just for petrol, the UOB good lah but there is also a cap on the cash back. Please go read UOB Thread and and this article title Earn Pocket Money with your credit cards.

1. Annual Income: RM24K to RM30K
2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must
3. Card required for: Dinner, Shopping, Movies and Installment Plans
4. Existing credit cards if any: UOB One Card
5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Citibank Clear/Choice Card
6. Others: Wanted to get a phone installment lately preferably 0% or with Maxis
7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: near to 1K or more

Applied CC from Maybank but rejected. sad.gif
Currently using UOB able to spent to 2K a month mostly from Tesco and utility bills. Unable to find other benefit if I swipe for dinner/etc..

Lately considering to do installment for a new phone.
As I saw Citibank credit cards are good since Maxis offering 0% installment for it and able to collect points from Citibank.
Citibank currently doing promotion for max RM150 cash back for new applicant, so will it be good if I get the Clear Card since it provide more benefit compare with Choice Card. They only downside for Clear Card was their annual fee need to request waive by self and there is no guarantee successful waive. sad.gif

Any other suggestion? If Clear Card could change their offer from Coffee Bean to Starbucks it will be great biggrin.gif

I guess for movies Citibank Clear Card is the best for Fridays and has 12 months 0% installment plan with Maxis. Other cards having 0% installment with Maxis are HSBC, Maybank and Public Bank. And yes, you are entitled for points with installment plans.

Like you said, not much offer with your UOB for shopping and dining, different cards offer discounts at different places, so go check out Citibank promos ans see if you can benefit from it. Click here to my article on Citibank credit card promotions, where I have a link to CB website to see the monthly promotions.

I think the RM150 cash back only applies to higher end cards, call CB to confirm how much cash back you can earn for the Clear Card. As for annual fee waiver for Clear Card, it is quite easy nowadays where you just call and they waive on the spot without conditions.

However, if you are in the Klang Valley, the Maybankard 2 Amex is good where you can earn 5X TP and 5% cash back for dining and shopping and has many shops offering 0% installment plan for their Visa and MasterCard. And click here to see where you can enjoy 0% installment plan for the MBB 2 AMEX. And if AMEX not accepted, you still got the MC or Visa which earns you 1X TP which is better than 0.3% cash back with your UOB One Card.

But since you can only hold cards from 2 banks (for now), guess you have to consider if the Clear Card can benefit you more as compared to MBB 2 AMEX.

Is it very important to have the name on the credit card to match with your ic or passport name?

I have just gotten a credit card with my english name ie : james leong instead of my full name as per ic or passport.

Will i get any trouble using that card ? especially in oversea where they might require u to show ur passport to verify your identity when you are using your credit card ?

It really depends, my friend went to Europe, at a LV outlet, at first they refuse to let her use her card because her card had her English Name and Surname only whereas her passport has her Chinese name. In the end she had to show her business card which had her English name and Chinese name and then only was she allowed to use the card.

Yes, as long as your gross salary/income is RM24K per year, you can qualify for credit card. Since you earn basic RM2.6 which means you will earn more than RM30K/year, look into Maybankard 2 Cards too.

with your income, you have many options.

1st to consider is OCBC Titanium MasterCard where you can earn 5% cash back for your Petrol and Dining and if your shopping include groceries. Only thing is the cash back is capped at RM50/month and no rewards points awarded.

Next will be Maybankard 2 Cards where you'll earn guaranteed 5X Treats Points and EXTRA 5% cash back on Saturdays and Sundays (also capped at RM50/month) if the merchants accept AMEX. Many merchants do offer 0% installment plans for Maybank Visa and MasterCard and to see which merchants offer 0% installment plan for American Express click here.

Only thing is your movies, if you do indeed go often and on Fridays, then Citibank Clear Card is good. The UOB One Card which earns you 5% cash back for Petrol also earns you 5% cash back at GSC. Click here to read my article titled Best Credit Cards for Petrol and Movies.

Also go read 1st post where I gave links to my articles on Entry Level Cards and Platinum Cards.

Now, if the banks are not satisfied with your documents proofing you present income, just wait till April next year when you will have to submit your BE form. As for CL, no one knows. But if you really want high CL, the go get a American Express Charge Card.

1. Annual Income: -

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes

3. Card required for: Local, overseas and online transactions

4. Existing credit cards if any: HSBC

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: No particular banks at the moment.

6. Others: I need a credit card (from other banks) which offers 0% instalment payment plan for purchases I make from stores (online and/or brick-mortar shop) other than their participating merchants. In other words, when I purchase something which I intend to do 0% instalment payment plan, I don’t need to go to the bank’s listed merchant for me. HSBC is currently charging 3%-5% for their flexi payment.

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Varies
