Since stumbling across the rendition of "Fields of Anfield Road" in honour of the 96 I posted earlier, I've started looking up versions from the Kop and found the perfect one. Now, we all know YNWA is a song we adopted as our own but "Fields of Anfield Road" is an original and one of the better songs in English football at least. Here's the Kop in full voice against Chelsea back in 2007.

Added on August 23, 2011, 2:43 pmHere's the Hillsborough version and a clip of it being sang at its 20th anniversary.

Outside the Shankly Gates
I heard a Kopite calling :
Shankly they have taken you away
But you left a great eleven
Before you went to heaven
Now it's glory round the Fields of Anfield Road.

All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and he could play)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
Of the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road

Outside the Paisley Gates
I heard a Kopite calling
Paisley they have taken you away..
But You led the great eleven
Back in Rome in seventy seven
And the redmen they are still playing the same way

All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and he could play)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
Of the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road

Beside the hills were flames
I heard a Kopite moaning
Why so many taken on that day
Justice has never been done
But their memory will carry on
There'll be glory round the fields of Anfield road

All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and he could play)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
About the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road

All round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and he could play)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
About the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road

The glory round the fields of Anfield road…

Added on August 23, 2011, 2:58 pmNow Man City fans have taken some stick on this thread but here's a link of proper Mancunians observing the minutes silence earlier this yr in honour of Hillsborough. You can clearly hear them shushing one another. Class.

I disagree to the fullest extent on your comment. English players don't have the skill and flair of European counterparts but it's their determination, heart and never say die attitude is what KD is looking for. I have watched EPL and Liverpool for >20 years and I can clearly see the English players commitment to the game when they play they play their hearts out. Last couple of season (during the Benitez era) Liverpool struggle for someone (Stevie G and J Carragher aside) to take the game by the scruff of the neck to the opponents and inspire the team of foreigners to play better. Stevie G is one of them but unfortunately he is in and out of injury. So hopefully with Henderson, Adams (although technically he's Scottish) and Downing, we have people who can take the lead and inspire foreigners to perform better especially when we are trailing.
*
Unfortunately, heart, determination & drive alone wont win u much these days. You have watch EPL 20 years yet u failed to observe the changing nature of the game.
Which successful team can be just that without flair players? Man U comes close but they still depends on flair players every now & then. Whats the problem of mixing steel with flair? In theory u can get the best of both worlds.
England national teams full of English heart & determination, what did they win again? Nuts.
English heart & determination can take the game by the scruff of the neck? You are taking the easy way of blaming foreigners for this. Being English had nothing to do with this. Being focus & tactically aware do. Back in 2001, the Reds team consistently win by slimmest of margin & consisted at least 6 englishmen. How's that taking a game by the scruff of the neck???

Kyrgiakos will be remembered as a cult hero for sure. He's been getting some unfair flak from some fans. I mean, can you find a better 4th choice centreback? He's virtually unplayable in the air though a bit suspect on the ground. I'll remember him fondly.

Sad to see Soto go. Glad we caught a glimpse of him playing in the flesh here in KL. Wish we had him a couple of seasons earlier. He did a terrific job holding up our defence during a short spell last season, and he could score too - thanks Soto and all the best!

On a more exciting note (sorry if this was already mentioned earlier today), there's talk that Liverpool is trying to bring back Craig Bellamy. I've always felt that he could have contributed much more when he was with the Reds. He will provide a good option to KD's attacking plans.

"As far as I know there is nothing true about this," Kuyt told Voetbal International. "I am very happy at Liverpool. I didn't extend my contract for two years three months ago for nothing. You don't do that if you have the intention to go away quickly."

craig bellamy = no nonsense player, never blessed with the great skill but i think commitment is top notch on-field.

i cannot comment his off field behaviour, hard to read. don't know what really happen with him & john arne riise (golf club incident). maybe the kaeoke riise may have offended craig (but that doesnt give craig the right to take the reported issue with a club...which i suppose then saw craigs out the door)

but it doesn't make sense. the shock bid. "if" a choise between craig & barton, i'll pick craig. still i not sure the bid is real. unless of course KD wants some sort of check within the engine room with bellamy type of character.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The way the games/players selection has been going (so far), KD is sticking to his english buys > over seemingly better creative midfielder (aqualani) hmm.gif

I don't think its about the fear of aqualani has glass legs but like is said it could very much be being an italian, he might keep to himself (introvert), not getting aquatinted well with the other team mates (probably not to KD's pricipal of togetherness?)

but i believe its more on the wages..

QUOTE
th UEFA's financial fair play (FFP) rules at the forefront of the club's consciousness, Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli must also maintain control of the club's wage bill – and Aquilani's salary in excess of €100,000-a-week (£80,000) makes him one of the highest-paid players on Merseyside.

“Aquilani is a talented player but as far as we are concerned he does not fit into the project at the club,” an Anfield source told Goal.com. “It's going to be a busy transfer window, with at least four or five players coming in, and issues concerning transfer budget, squad size and wages all come into it – especially with FFP about to come into play.”

bah, i still think cole should be offloaded too, if thats the case.

Last year Inter Milan showed their interest in Dirk Kuyt, yet they got nothing. Rumours abound that they show similar interest this year, but yet again it looks like they will end up empty-handed. Kuyt seems likely to remain at the club where he has had a roller-coaster of a ride to say the least. His impeccable return at Feyenoord (71 goals in 101 games) caught the attention of the Kop and he was transferred to Liverpool for £10 million in 2006.

Kuyt was a player who had a proven track record of scoring goals, and we as supporters thrust a great deal of expectation on his shoulders. After all, if you are following in the footsteps of Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen and Ian Rush then you will have to be prolific in front of goal in order to gain an Anfield following. It could have been a lot worse—he could have been Emile Heskey.

The facts, however, seemingly hindered his progress. In the Dutch league, he scored more than 20 goals in each of his last four seasons of competition. Alternatively, his strike rate at Liverpool proved less impressive, as he never totaled more than 15 in one season. He has yet to reach the same volume from his time at Feyenoord and is closing in on doubling the number of games he played there at Liverpool.

As a consequence of this, many neglected his input. I was frustrated at the lack of goals but was quite ignorant in looking deeper as to what he could actually bring to the club.

It was his dedication, work rate and commitment that began to shine through. Many players would just quit there and then. He could have moved back to the Dutch league where goals seemed easier to come by. Or he could have taken the bait handed by Inter and attempted to move on with his career.

As others like John Arne Riise headed for Serie A, Kuyt however wanted to subvert the inconsistent view shown to him by the fans. He wanted to show his die-hard attitude and not be a forgotten quitter. Whilst his success rate in European competition was improved, he struggled to find the net in the Premiership.

It was under Dalglish that he found his elevated focus. Alongside his revelatory hat-trick against Manchester United in March, he netted a further ten times in the league to bring a total tally in all competitions to 15. This gave him his largest haul for any one season in a Liverpool shirt.

And whilst he may not play every game of the season, his ability to drift from winger to occasional striker has earned him rave reviews. He is now a player we can trust to commit to a game and to get a result. Amongst a team that now features the world-renowned talents of Luis Suarez, he will do well to instate his status further, and after years of trying he could now become a legend in the making.

His goal scoring rate will probably never eclipse the success he had in the Dutch league. But goals can be found elsewhere. It is his work rate we can now gleefully salute him for. When you have speculation surrounding arguably lesser-able strikers joining the club, it ensures you will want Kuyt to stick to his guns and remain at the Kop.

btw, his goal rate is low because most of the time he been played as right winger..last season he been shift to the center with suarez..they form a very formidable partnership...it still a mystery because KD seems change the first eleven although meireles & kuyt doing very fine job last season
