I think becoz macs are getting cheaper now. A lot of people paid heed to their common senses to just buy macs and spare the KP horror of making hackintosh.
I mean for less than 3K you can sit in style at starbuck with a beautiful and very thin laptop flashing that glowing apple logo to everyone (read: 11" mba). It's a headturner. Now try with thin samsung / lenovo ultrabook which are way too expensive for the same attention. (try bring wifi dongle too if you successfully hackintoshed it) Similar goes to a powerful i7 desktop with gorgeous display, wireless keyboard and mouse that have no problem to match your home furniture for around 5K or so. (read: iMac 21.5") Now calculate how much already you've spent (money & time) for that i7 hackintosh system (dont forget to include monitor, webcam, speakers, casing, mouse, keyboard that dont match for overall cost plus the OSX too-if you really legally bought it) |

I spend around 7k for desktop, and the spec is way far better than mac pro. (with extra monitor, good cooling system, but less cosmetic form). [ of course not the build stated in my sig ]
But for laptop, agree with chokia. better buy mba rather than pening kepala wpikir how to solve the KP etc. This post has been edited by latworx: Jul 31 2013, 11:06 AM |

Hi,
I think most of the people who build hackintosh had some geekiness on them. Geek are all about tweaking, solving bugs/problem along the build process. Also, hackintosh are about customization. You can swap your graphic card to a latest model (Nvidia 7series), Add new SSD, dual/triple boot, Watercooled or even now add in super high speed wireless AC (Asus PCE-AC66 PCie card which confirmed work using 10.8.5 beta kext). That are all the fun about and not about how it match your hi-so furniture. My hackintosh is no where look like a Mac. I used dual 27" LCD, Logitech M570 trackball mouse. I had odd looking mechanical keyboard like Kinesis Advantage (Photo) and now more weird looking custom made keyboard Ergodox (Photo). I used trackball mouse and etc. What I want to said is Hackintosh are about customization. By the way, I love my Macbook Pro 13" After close to 2 years, still working well and look great. There goes the fun of it when you just build, install and everything works out of box. About tonymac, I don't want to get involved in the battle .. I'll surely suggest a method with less manual work with higher success rate when doing the hackintosh. |

Just wanted to report in - have been on OSX 10.8 for a while now, tried updating once, cant remember if it was 10.8.2 or 10.8.1 and I had to roll back the changes via time machine, after that my shutdown time became quite abit slower for some reason (Im on SSD)..will probably venture into upgrading to the latest patch- 10.8.4 or something when I feel up to the challenge haha
I've considered buying a 27" IMAC since it ever came out- its been through a few refreshes and Im now on my 2nd Hackintosh that I bought new hardware specifically for (I've been on 3 diff versions of Hackintoshes I think)...no regrets...to me the SSD makes the biggest difference, cant imagine using a PC without it now! so adding that to the 27" IMAC makes it so expensive....also Im an IT guy, so I like being able to customize however I like it and being able to fix anything myself..cant imagine lugging the 27" IMAC back to the apple store to fix something...plus the cost involved etc! Today I bought a DELL U2713HM and a Magic Mouse...I am soo happy now...have been considering the 27" Cinema Display earlier and even getting a real IMAC - mainly for the screen.....I was using an old TN 24" Dell monitor before...and the difference is insane... I think I've spent about 4-5k in total for my PC...but with specs obviously much better than the current 27" IMAC and of course the option of customizing anything I want myself...having tons of internal HDDs...fixing any problems...and admittedly..I enjoy the challenge of the Hackintosh...hahaha Just had to share...oh and the last thing- I bought a bluetooth adapter for rm16 from ALL IT digital mall...works OOB which was a super pleasant surprise...getting my Magic Mouse up and running took 2 minutes... Not sure if wake from sleep works, will try that later. The bluetooth adapter is an AVF- Bluetooth USB Dongle Version 2.0 Compliant...ABT001 (model number I think)..its like a full size thumb drive.. Hope this helps as I've always been too lazy and scared to get a compatible bluetooth adapter and this works for me! Remember that I havent tested wake up from sleep cause I use a wired Apple Keyboard so Im not too worried, but that may be a factor for you to consider.. hi, thinking to upgrade my current pc to system that able to install mac os on haswell.
possible new hardware: gigabyte mobo rm3xx-5xx z87 (can support macos right) intel i4770k 16gb (2x8gb) value ram kingston/corsair pc1600 240 intel 520 ssd (may be will drop if not enough budget) my old hardware: old 450 watt psu old creative audigy sound card (1st gen) old ATI HD5770 vga card old 1TB seagate Sata hdd old 500gb and 250gb WD/Seatage IDE Hdd old intel E6600 2.4ghz old asus G41 mobo old kingston 1gb pc667 ram I am definitely need to use winxp/7 OS as well for daily work+gaming (dota2). Please allow me to ask couple of question up front for my preparation needs. 1) If go with dual boot OS (win + mac), 1 SSD --> 2 OS or 1 drive 1 OS or 1 SSD 2 partitions OS on diff partition? 2) can explain more technically how to start this on above your recommendation? i only know need to install OS with new partition for auto alignment block stuff. unsure what other step i need to know upfront. and what to watch out to avoid 2 OS after installation crash... 3) Which Mac os can run well for After effect 4 or above? which Mac OS is the most easy to install, like contains all drivers or easy inpstall driver? I never install any macos in my life, but for winOS is so easy. The reason i want run mac OS is to render video in After Effect only 4) which giga/msi mobo you recommend? it must have coaxial SPDIF on board or PCI slot for my Audigy card, so that i can on my AV receiver. budget mobo rm3xx-rm5xx 5) any reference source for macos installation guide , step by step text or video... thanks in advanced! and Selamat Hari Raya! |

QUOTE(jimlim007 @ Aug 6 2013, 02:06 PM) hi, thinking to upgrade my current pc to system that able to install mac os on haswell. With No new iMac launch with Haswell and also Marverick OSX still in Beta. I would suggest on hold on new Hackintosh with Z87 chipset motherboard. The Hackintosh community like Insanelymac and tonymac still dont have official tools for Haswell build. But to answer your current question at this stage.possible new hardware: gigabyte mobo rm3xx-5xx z87 (can support macos right) intel i4770k 16gb (2x8gb) value ram kingston/corsair pc1600 240 intel 520 ssd (may be will drop if not enough budget) my old hardware: old 450 watt psu old creative audigy sound card (1st gen) old ATI HD5770 vga card old 1TB seagate Sata hdd old 500gb and 250gb WD/Seatage IDE Hdd old intel E6600 2.4ghz old asus G41 mobo old kingston 1gb pc667 ram I am definitely need to use winxp/7 OS as well for daily work+gaming (dota2). You can install on 1HDD/2partition. But to make life easier, I would recommend 1OS on 1 HDD. Just did my dualboot on current Hackintosh with 2 HDD 2) thereis no best method and Installation guide can be found on the mentioned 2 websites. Do take a look. Choose the one you can understand more. 3) At this stage is OSX Mountain Lion since got a lot of installation tools, guide and support. But installation is 1 things. You need to pair with correct hardware. Z87 still not officially supported. Z77 is well documented and supported. 4) RM500 can get decent mobo with PCi and Coaxial SPDIF out. I would recommend Gigabyte Mobo. But you need to check the Audio Chipset that support. Your motherboard should have Realtex ALC8XXX audio chipset. If you use Audigy card. Try to google see if it support Mac. But I think this site got provide the proper kext for Audigy card: http://kxproject.com/down.php?language=en 5) http://www.tonymacx86.com/installation/ or http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ By the way, Dota2 had Mac Supported from Steam. So you dont need to boot into Win7 to play it. Info: http://store.steampowered.com/news/11109/ This post has been edited by mikelanding: Aug 6 2013, 03:14 PM |

(will it managed via BIOS 1st boot device - select want to boot hdd? if yes, this will be irritating as well if want to switch boot OS, everytime need go into BIOS..) i think i will play dota2 in win7, because to re-download whole dota2 for osx, the file is so huge (so far win version, dota2 >10gb); |
