hi, thinking to upgrade my current pc to system that able to install mac os on haswell.

possible new hardware:
gigabyte mobo rm3xx-5xx z87 (can support macos right)
intel i4770k
16gb (2x8gb) value ram kingston/corsair pc1600
240 intel 520 ssd (may be will drop if not enough budget)

my old hardware:
old 450 watt psu
old creative audigy sound card (1st gen)
old ATI HD5770 vga card
old 1TB seagate Sata hdd
old 500gb and 250gb WD/Seatage IDE Hdd

old intel E6600 2.4ghz
old asus G41 mobo
old kingston 1gb pc667 ram

I am definitely need to use winxp/7 OS as well for daily work+gaming (dota2). Please allow me to ask couple of question up front for my preparation needs.

1) If go with dual boot OS (win + mac), 1 SSD --> 2 OS or 1 drive 1 OS or 1 SSD 2 partitions OS on diff partition?

2) can explain more technically how to start this on above your recommendation? i only know need to install OS with new partition for auto alignment block stuff. unsure what other step i need to know upfront. and what to watch out to avoid 2 OS after installation crash...

3) Which Mac os can run well for After effect 4 or above? which Mac OS is the most easy to install, like contains all drivers or easy inpstall driver? I never install any macos in my life, but for winOS is so easy. The reason i want run mac OS is to render video in After Effect only

4) which giga/msi mobo you recommend? it must have coaxial SPDIF on board or PCI slot for my Audigy card, so that i can on my AV receiver. budget mobo rm3xx-rm5xx

5) any reference source for macos installation guide , step by step text or video...

thanks in advanced! and Selamat Hari Raya! notworthy.gif

With No new iMac launch with Haswell and also Marverick OSX still in Beta. I would suggest on hold on new Hackintosh with Z87 chipset motherboard. The Hackintosh community like Insanelymac and tonymac still dont have official tools for Haswell build. But to answer your current question at this stage.

1) if your OS is OSX ML and windows 7. You can install on 1HDD/2partition. But to make life easier, I would recommend 1OS on 1 HDD. Just did my dualboot on current Hackintosh with 2 HDD
2) thereis no best method and Installation guide can be found on the mentioned 2 websites. Do take a look. Choose the one you can understand more.

3) At this stage is OSX Mountain Lion since got a lot of installation tools, guide and support. But installation is 1 things. You need to pair with correct hardware. Z87 still not officially supported. Z77 is well documented and supported.

4) RM500 can get decent mobo with PCi and Coaxial SPDIF out. I would recommend Gigabyte Mobo. But you need to check the Audio Chipset that support. Your motherboard should have Realtex ALC8XXX audio chipset. If you use Audigy card. Try to google see if it support Mac. But I think this site got provide the proper kext for Audigy card: http://kxproject.com/down.php?language=en

5) http://www.tonymacx86.com/installation/ or http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/

By the way, Dota2 had Mac Supported from Steam. So you dont need to boot into Win7 to play it. tongue.gif

Hi mike,
Thank for your replied and good links! notworthy.gif

hmm, i will on hold 1st until more mature reelase osx support haswell then smile.gif atthe same time can sourcing hardwares first, I heard neweggs is coming to msia soon, so good news!

one question further clarify with, example if install 1 hdd 1 OS, when connected these 2 hdd in PC and power on, how the system know which hdd to boot? (will it managed via BIOS 1st boot device - select want to boot hdd? if yes, this will be irritating as well if want to switch boot OS, everytime need go into BIOS..)

i think i will play dota2 in win7, because to re-download whole dota2 for osx, the file is so huge (so far win version, dota2 >10gb);

You will have some sort of Boot Manager just like WinPC. You will need to install Chameleon or Clover or Chimera bootloader. (This step already included when you setup your hackintosh).

There are few method to install the bootloader. I used Chameloen Wizard which allow me to select what option to install. Look at below photos. For 2 OS on 2 separate HDD. Choose Boot0md. Then select which HDD to 1st boot.

bello guys ^^

one question, hmm... how much performance different in win7 vs OSX in after effect rendering if purely consider both are using same hardwares (cpu speed, ram, etc all same) doing same after effect projct?

I just upgraded my pc from Core2Duo to i7, 16Gb ram (no overclock); I found previously I rendering at old pc for ie: 1500 frame length project, it took up to 7-8hours. yesterday tried a different project 2085 frame done in less than 5min.

I unsure will it because the rendering project element inside are different. May be i need to render another similar ae project to check the actual result. if win7 vs OSX is major diff, i will move to hackintosh, if is not that significant, may be can drop this option... hmm.gif
