Added on July 11, 2011, 8:13 ambtw, any exynos extreme user here? Im almost sticking with villain2.0 but i really need the stock browser.. one of the key points of sgs2 is the gpu accelerated browser, if i had to go for a 3rd party as a main browser, not worthy indeed

hmmm... i noticed this thread likes to talk about ROM, ROM, ROM... lol...

anyway, trying to steer away from the ROM topic...

what nice game are you playing on your SGS2? ideally, a game that really makes sgs2 run (so we can safely remove angry birds from this list)... please indicate if mod is required -- this is for those going to menton THD games -- they are originally meant for tegra gadgets. wink.gif

i've yet to find one... the only closest one so far i've tried is zenonia 3 but it does not look like its making sgs2 run.

ok, another topic... from what i understand from pg1, the charging port on sgs2 is actually microUSB, correct? i tried plugging in the cable from my external harddisk and it didn't seem to be able to go in...
* was i being to gentle?

asking partly coz i noticed my Asus TF charger is actually a 2 piece charger (1 pc is the adapter/ charger that connects to the wall 3pin socket and 1 is a USB to proprietary ASUS port). it's stated as 2.1A on the adapter. so... can i find a usb to microusb (assuming the port on sgs2 is microusb) and use that to charge the phone?

i think benny88 mentioned he uses the kensington car charger (or sth like that). i checked out the link before and it shows a adapter (for the car cigarette point) with what looks like a usb port.

just wondering... so at least if i travel, i can reduce the number of things to carry... smile.gif

hmmm... you mean the default browser is specially customised to max the gpu? hmmm... i skipped it and currently using dolphin hd.

if this is the case, i might check out the default browser...

talking about ROMs are a phone specific discussion btw rolleyes.gif .. i guess yes since the stock browser on SGS2 is fully gpu accelerated and it handles flash nicely indeed.. i guess its one of the key points when comparing sgs2 to other dual core since samsung has developed a perfectly awesome browser, still needs improving on bookmark manager though.. huhu

haha... ya, i know ROM is phone-specific topic... but i'm kinda bored of that topic... lol...

i din bother to try the stock browser due to bad experience with the stock one found in Asus TF 101. i guess i will try it out later!

speaking of flash... it comes pre-installed already, right? i din see any prompts to install it so far...

Villain 2.0 is ooookay. Nothing much besides the goodies that 2.3.4 stock brings + a laggy stock browser lol. But I use Xscope anyway so no biggie.

Just installed OpenTyrian (huraaaah!), now for some Baldur's Gate action.

Oh and just dropped my SGS2 from the height of a cupboard top onto a tile floor. FACE FIRST...  sweat.gif

The "loose" Ultra Capsule and it's subtle lid prolly saved it from most of the damage, but the battery cover got loose in the process ( shocking.gif ) and my SD card gegar a bit = unmounted.

So I turned the thing off, popped the SD card out and in again, re-closed the battery cover and rebooted. The SGS2 chugged along like nothing ever happened lol. Maybe Samsung DID make this thing tough after all.

Bro do you face any issue with icons/shortcuts missing at times? Using Go EX launcher and keep happening everytime (now and then). Got tor estart phone or tilt a few times for the shortcuts to be back. Very....irritating! Any fix for this or is this a bug with 2.3.4? cry.gif

+1 on this. I uses Xscope (thanks to you) and Dolphin HD just because I feel they load faster and the app seems cooler.

u use dolphin hd? do you use their bookmark plugin (i wonder how safe is it, that's all)? the bookmark plugin is the one that pops up every now and then -- supposedly can export/ sync with SD.

Tested build 2.3.4 on villian 2.0 and angeloM 2.0, my choice is villlian. AngeloM has significantly higher battery drain. So if you wish to test 2.3.4 try villian 2.0
Overall do not see any obvious performance gains. The only attraction is it is the latest build of gingerbread. I am sure we will be seeing more developments based on it in the coming weeks.

some news on SGS2... not really new news... we all know we have the BEST phone in our hands, right? wink.gif

from abiresearch.com
QUOTE
This spring, Samsung launched the Galaxy S II, a new flagship member of its Android smartphone lineup. As part of its new Teardown Research Service, ABI Research has dismantled, analyzed, and tested the device down to the component level. The conclusion? If you are looking to keep up with the latest technology in 2011, the Galaxy S II is a good place to start.

QUOTE
Mielke sums up: “Samsung took many risks by combining all these new technologies into one phone. But ABI Research believes those risks will pay off; the Galaxy S II sets a new benchmark for almost every category on which a smartphone is measured.”

im on CF root KF2

update : flashed to exynos extreme and now in the recovery, the middle button is ENTER back again.. previously it acts as a back button

Guys, again, need help here.

Rooted my S2 on Saturday (using supercurio based on the guide here). All was well until 720am this morning. The alarm clock was working at 650. LOL. But at 720, I realized my phone has been shut down since I could not use the home button anymore.

Then I switched it on...drove to work, and realized it auto rebooted itself and brought me to my SIM card lock screen.

Also, whenever I reboot, after root, i saw this exclamation mark ! at the galaxy screen.

Finally...I also noticed that when I press the Home button which will bring me to the lock screen, the background image will somehwo dim...and then become bright a little.

is this due to root issue? did not encounter anything like this before root. anyone experiencing this?

I love Dolphin as it has the gesture. Very fun and speedy smile.gif

I did try it but doesn't interest me that much. Yes it did save in my sd but again, I didn't bother to reinstall back after changing to VR 2.0.

I changed to Xscope as I tested both and Xscope loads the page like 1 sec faster smile.gif rclxms.gif

The exclamation mark (which is normal after flashing to a different kernel) can be removed by flashing back to the stock kernel. Please refer to page 1 after the rooting section on how to flash back a stock kernel. Alternatively, you could purchase the USB Jig which is quite handy as well in removing the exclamation mark and as well as reviving a bricked phone. Please also refer to page 1 for the link to purchase the Jig if interested.

Actually between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 there isn't a significant difference. I'd only recommend upgrading if you get hit by by the AOS bug present in some but not alll 2.3.3s..

Check your battery usage and if AndroidOS is using up a significant portion of your battery, an upgrade would be good.

On the other hand, I'm currently using Batista70 by snakes. Kinda like how that rom is themed.

Why don;t you list it here

Anyway - just look at the file names - is obvious : the one you see with word phone or modem - PHONE, CSC = CSC, main file - PDA . The other file is probably the pit file ??

List here so I can verify fro you
*
So uncle benny and all who can help me out...these is the 4 files after extracted:

1. CODE_I9100XWKF1_CL265340_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
2. GT_I9100_MULTI_CSC_OLBKE5_tar.md5
3. KERNEL_I9100XWKF1_CL265340_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
4. MODEM_I9100DXKF1_REV_02_CL1017685.tar.md5

so if i'm going to use Odin to flashback...which goes to which box in Odin? i can recognize file #2 to CSC, #3 to PDA and #4 to Phone. So does this make file #1 to Bootloader?am i right or wrong?please advise and tq in advance

Stock kernel will have problems with Wifi on some devices I think when used in conjunction with a custom rom. Better to either buy a jig or just make one xD
