anyone knows how we can contact samsung dive admin? can't seem to change birthdate. its registered wrongly and it seems bdate is very important -- used if one forgets username or password.

and i've yet to try function like remote wipe, etc... but if it works, its better than htc! not sure if the htc functions now fully work. last i read, can only ring phone.

with s.dive, i have tried track and it works. smile.gif

Interesting, in 2.3.4, if you turn on bluetooth while there are active bluetooth devices present, a notification pops up to tell you about it, and provide you with a very handy link to bluetooth preferences.

Very nice. Wasn't there before, that's for sure.
*
2.3.4?? this is not official version from sammy, right?

Hi Benny,

What would I be missing if I just use the S2 as it is? As an "oldie" on the wrong side of 50 I prefer not to get muddled in the complexity of ROM/baseband/kernel. But everybody here seems to be flashing left and right so I just wonder if the original Samsung ROM s good enough to use. What's the main advantage of changing the original ROM?
*
having used for almost a week... i think the original rom is good! initially i wanted to root and modify so the home page is page #4 coz i din wanna swipe 6 times to get from page 1 to page 7. but just found out i can hold and slide to move from one page to another... so, i'm ok with that.

will share more later. so far... i like touchwiz (ya, i surprised myself too). having said that... generally ppl say htc sense is even better... if i'm already happy with touchwiz, i wonder what abt sense! smile.gif

Bocor version. Works well enough for me really. And no FCs in contacts here - maybe because I deleted SocialHub completely already.
Why cannot? I BOUGHT Backstab HD from there - but selected Nexus S lar.
*
bocor version? cool... meaning it will be officially released soon -- or at least a sign that sammy is working on it. i was expecting them to skip 2.3.4 and just go straight for ice-cream sandwich.

Don't worry, you're not missing much. Sense is... *looks around for CelcomAxiata*... a bit SENSEless.

It eats up memory like god knows what, and slows down your system. IMHO unless you're British, you really don't need a weather widget so huge that everything else fades to obscurity.
*
lol...

speaking of weather widget... i just dun get it. nice to have for first few days... but after that, who really cares? i can just look out the window... smile.gif

btw, i think this thread is going waaaaaAAAaay too fast. pity benny -- trying to keep up... but benny's doing an excellent job!!! thumbup.gif icon_rolleyes.gif notworthy.gif

hmmm... i noticed this thread likes to talk about ROM, ROM, ROM... lol...

anyway, trying to steer away from the ROM topic...

what nice game are you playing on your SGS2? ideally, a game that really makes sgs2 run (so we can safely remove angry birds from this list)... please indicate if mod is required -- this is for those going to menton THD games -- they are originally meant for tegra gadgets. wink.gif

i've yet to find one... the only closest one so far i've tried is zenonia 3 but it does not look like its making sgs2 run.

ok, another topic... from what i understand from pg1, the charging port on sgs2 is actually microUSB, correct? i tried plugging in the cable from my external harddisk and it didn't seem to be able to go in...
* was i being to gentle?

asking partly coz i noticed my Asus TF charger is actually a 2 piece charger (1 pc is the adapter/ charger that connects to the wall 3pin socket and 1 is a USB to proprietary ASUS port). it's stated as 2.1A on the adapter. so... can i find a usb to microusb (assuming the port on sgs2 is microusb) and use that to charge the phone?

i think benny88 mentioned he uses the kensington car charger (or sth like that). i checked out the link before and it shows a adapter (for the car cigarette point) with what looks like a usb port.

just wondering... so at least if i travel, i can reduce the number of things to carry... smile.gif

Added on July 11, 2011, 8:13 ambtw, any exynos extreme user here? Im almost sticking with villain2.0 but i really need the stock browser.. one of the key points of sgs2 is the gpu accelerated browser, if i had to go for a 3rd party as a main browser, not worthy indeed
*
hmmm... you mean the default browser is specially customised to max the gpu? hmmm... i skipped it and currently using dolphin hd.

if this is the case, i might check out the default browser...

talking about ROMs are a phone specific discussion btw  rolleyes.gif .. i guess yes since the stock browser on SGS2 is fully gpu accelerated and it handles flash nicely indeed.. i guess its one of the key points when comparing sgs2 to other dual core since samsung has developed a perfectly awesome browser, still needs improving on bookmark manager though.. huhu
*
haha... ya, i know ROM is phone-specific topic... but i'm kinda bored of that topic... lol...

i din bother to try the stock browser due to bad experience with the stock one found in Asus TF 101. i guess i will try it out later!

speaking of flash... it comes pre-installed already, right? i din see any prompts to install it so far...

+1 on this. I uses Xscope (thanks to you) and Dolphin HD just because I feel they load faster and the app seems cooler.
*
u use dolphin hd? do you use their bookmark plugin (i wonder how safe is it, that's all)? the bookmark plugin is the one that pops up every now and then -- supposedly can export/ sync with SD.

some news on SGS2... not really new news... we all know we have the BEST phone in our hands, right? wink.gif

from abiresearch.com
QUOTE
This spring, Samsung launched the Galaxy S II, a new flagship member of its Android smartphone lineup. As part of its new Teardown Research Service, ABI Research has dismantled, analyzed, and tested the device down to the component level. The conclusion? If you are looking to keep up with the latest technology in 2011, the Galaxy S II is a good place to start.

QUOTE
Mielke sums up: “Samsung took many risks by combining all these new technologies into one phone. But ABI Research believes those risks will pay off; the Galaxy S II sets a new benchmark for almost every category on which a smartphone is measured.”

Tested build 2.3.4 on villian 2.0 and angeloM 2.0,  my choice is villlian. AngeloM has significantly higher battery drain. So if you wish to test 2.3.4 try villian 2.0
Overall do not see any obvious performance gains. The only attraction is it is the latest build of gingerbread. I am sure we will be seeing more developments based on it in the coming weeks.
*
i can't wait for the 2.3.4 from sammy... then Gtalk video is available! wink.gif

QUOTE(benny888 @ Jul 11 2011, 11:35 AM)
Yesterday I ranted about new users asking me questions which the answers are there if they even bother to read. Yesterday and this morning in total 5 PM to me asking essentially this : " Litening rom I want to flash do I need to  root or not ?"
I find such questions really depressing and just irritating when such new users want to flash a rom and clearly never bother to read features of the rom . I quote here taken from Litening thread his very FIRST sentence about his rom:

Note
The Lite'ning Rom v1.0 will not wipe your apps and data and it's not necessary to root your SGS II before you can flash the Lite'ning Rom.
After flashing the Lite'ning Rom your SGS II will be rooted.

So, to those new users who I have burst out - very sorry. To up coming new users who plan to flash any rom, please read the rom features. Ask only if you do not understand after reading. Don't even bother to ask if you did not even take effort to read
*
benny... we feel for you... 1 suggestion for you: just post a disclaimer as your signature saying that you'll not reply to repeat Q that has been posted on FAQ. smile.gif

you might have been better off with perhaps HTC FB phones. smart phones will require owners to change mindset. must accept that battery technology is a limitation and daily charging is required. sometimes more than once a day. some even constantly charge it when in office.

I have had this SGP oleophobic for about 1-half month now.
At first, the oleophobic coating gave the screen protector a nice feel and there were no fingerprints.
However, after a week, the oleophobic coating was gradually wiping away. You could feel the protector getting smoother like glass. Now its a fingerprint magnet. Right now it is a swirl of prints. tongue.gif

just noticed... cases for sgs2 usually leave the top right corner (when the phone is facing you) 'open'.

i'm using sgp's ultra silke and if i'm not mistaken, an unfortunate drop on this angle should actually hit the phone rather than the casing.

checked the manual and it does not mention of any sensors there... any reason why case makers leave that portion 'open'? i checked a few other cases for sgs2 and its the same thing.
