I wish to post this again here as I have been receiving too many PM from new users these past few days asking me about rooting and flashing. I have post this in page 1 post #4 but seems most new users all want instant mee answers and just do not care to read the page 1 :

MY TIPs on Flashing and Rooting :
I STRONGLY suggest you readup the features of the roms you wish to flash. You will get yourself into trouble if you don't do that. Do not just jump in to flash the easy way trying to follow some rules without understanding the features of the rom you wish to flash

The different roms in XDA has these features :

1. Some will wipe clean your phone while some will not
2. Some will auto root for you while some will not
3. Some requires you to root it yourself after flashing using an insecure kernel method
4. Some roms required you to wipe clean ( ie factory/hard reset ) ; some will not - is optional step. But my advise is it is better to wipe clean ( hard reset ) so you start with a new plate , again is optional

I always recommend for new users, the easiest way of getting yourself started :

ROOT ONLY - easiest method use Supercurio

Rom flash - start with Litening - as using it , you learn how to use Odin. Also flashing this rom will NOT wipe your phone clean. Flashing this rom will AUTO ROOT your phone and a ClockworkMod recovery installed at same time

Recovery - use Chainfire v4.0 . You will need recovery installed if you wish to do a nandroid backup and full restore of your rom. Some roms required you to flash using RECOVERY mode and not through Odin. Some roms even auto installed Chainfire recovery when you flash it

So the GOLDEN RULE is please READ the features of the rom you want to flash - check whether it use Odin or through recovery ??? Does it install recovery auto for you ?? Does the rom wipe clean your phone ??

Another GOLDEN rule :

ALWAYS ALWAYS wipe clean cache partition and in ADvanced mode - clear Dalvik cache BEFORE you flash a new rom - this will avoid reboots keep looping or phone fail to boot after flash. This also means it is in a way compulsory you install a RECOVERY first before attempting to flash a new rom. If you are lucky you could have a successful flash; if you are unlucky you will curse yourself because you want a fast way

REMINDER AGAIN : NEW users - PLEASE read page 1 - spent some time - I have put in much effort to complie FAQ n Tech issue matters ; Most of your answers are most probably there . This thread is growing so fast , I have even problem maintaining it . It grows so fast because of repeated questions and new users just too " lazy " to read page 1

I was in Johor Baru City Square yesterday. Maxis has a booth promoting the phone and its packages. talk to several promoters - generally response is poor and getting the phone on the spot is easy
Maybe all Johoreans ( including me ) prefer just go Spore to buy and the amount of type of accessories in Spore is just amazing. Johor Baru cannot even find one decent shop selling good accessories - all are mainly chap piau

Everyone in KL screaming to buy IPAD 2 - I went to Machines - no issue of buying on spot too

Even if you are about to die, just don't touch with pit if you want your phone to be okay.

Bro you are giving wrong advise and is totally wrong. care to explain your point before i say mine
Understanding PIT file is important - just simply ignoring it is infact dangerous
The horror stories some read is simply because users do not understand and use the wrong PIT assuming is same for all firmware in different regions - these happen to frequent rom flashers who just ignore PIT

hola to sifu..

i'm having some trouble here..before this i'm using litening rom 1.5..but this morning i'm trying to flash my rom to tk rom..

so basically i just entered the cwm (power off and hold button up + menu + power button)..then flash the rom..

when i reboot back my phone..it shows some binary animation..its already almost 30 minutes now..so i assume i may have done this wrongly..

so what should i do??

Did you clear cache partition ? And at Advanced - clear Dalvik Cache . These must be done before flashing nay new rom. Clear data/factory reset is optional but highly recommende if you are moving between different developer roms

So now, switch off phone - press power down hard. Take battery out. Wait few seconds. Put battery back. Repeat process - go to recovery mode and try again

I post again my TIPS from page 1 post#4:

Another GOLDEN rule :

ALWAYS ALWAYS wipe clean cache partition and in ADvanced mode - clear Dalvik cache BEFORE you flash a new rom - this will avoid reboots keep looping or phone fail to boot after flash. This also means it is in a way compulsory you install a RECOVERY first before attempting to flash a new rom. If you are lucky you could have a successful flash; if you are unlucky you will curse yourself because you want a fast way

MY SPECIAL REQUEST to all new users :

1. Please post your questions here. I have been receiving too many PM. I always answer all my PM but sometimes I am busy, not online and could not response immediate . Infact 99.9999 % of the PM to me is 99 % of the time, answers are already in page 1

2. Posting your questions here, will have a faster answer as there are too many seasoned and experienced users here who could answer your questions

3. PLEASE do at least the following before asking any questions. Sometimes questions not answered are repeated questions that had been asked umpteen times and answered umpteen times. As this thread is still new, you could try search answers first at version 6 or 7
Learn to use " Search Topic" at bottom of the webpage , example " where to buy micro SD card?" , " how to root?", how to backup" etc etc - and you will see all postings related to these
Last but not least , please checkup Page 1 FAQ, FAQ2, Roms sections for any similar questions first. That is main reason why these postings at page 1 are done - for your convenience

This morning in just 2 hours , I recieved 7 PM and 5 personal emails asking me same/ similar type questions :

1. Why I cannot see choose zip file in recovery; why only 4 choices but yours so many others ?
2. Do I have to wipe to install new rom
3. What is Odin - where to find it
4. Wy my battery overnight drain 80% - how to have better battery life
5. Where to buy this phone
6. How do i know or test to see whether faked or original ?
7. What is kernel ? What i bootloader
8. Can I use SGS rom on this phone . One even ask can I use HTC Sense rom on this phone ?
9. What is latest rom , where to find latest, how to download ?

ETC ETC ETC
