using an Upgraded R50 here

Upgraded the RAM from 256 to 768
Upgraded DVD-ROM to COMBO
Upgraded 30GB HDD to 80GB
Upgraded to 9-Cell Battery

All is running well for 3years plus already and the battery life for the 1st gen centrinos is great!!!

Bro, 3 years is a long time if use it everyday (Senior Lappy!!).. i got a silly question.. did your LCD ever fail you for past 3 years? I really worry bout this couse LCD really cost alot

I claim warranty for my T41 LCD last month. Luckily my three year warranty end this month and not planning to renew it cause changing to HP NC4400.

OMGBBQ~ how long you use it till u need to change it? Did they charge u? If yes how much? Ah im getting more and more worry bout this LCD already

Btw normally lappy LCD lifespan is how many hours ah? Like some plasma TV they can last for freaking 60,000 hours.. that make it last for almost 7 years! But i guess lappy LCD lifespan should be shorter then this right?

Doh.. i google and i get this "Flat-panel LCD screen displays have a lifespan approaching 60,000 hours" so i think its same with plasma TV!

well LCD is fine so far...

The only thing that gave way was the DVD-ROM drive - After 1.5 years
And the original 6 Cell Battery Died out after 2 years.....

Cross my fingers... so far so good...

anyways.. I believe the thinkpads were built like a tank...

One nifty feature that I love about the think pad compared to other lappys is the "thinklite" an LED that lights up ur keyboard if u r using in he dark

Batt still ok for me maybe cost me like rm250 but can use for 2 years.. while ThinkLight is really good but i really seldom use it.. when i close my light it means time to sleep! =D

bro, I am sorry to say techdos in midvalley can't help you on this as they just a reseller and minor inspection only alike other resellers, for this case, you need to call IBM toll free number at 1800-88-8558 for assistance and quote upon the parts you need to change. You can't get just the casing and the hinge outside except there is pro-notebook technician that have extra parts to help you. Thanks and good luck.

I am sorry to say this as if you unsure about the first hand user of this notebook you might get into stolen notebook as if you try to claim warranty from IBM and if they checked out this model and serial number had been reported stolen then they will get back this notebook to its original owner.

If this notebook is clean, then you can check the warranty from the website or you can just call 1800-88-8558 and tell them your model number 2007-??? and serial number.

Lenovo just take over IBM admin and marketing and warranty still base on IBM. so it wont be any problem for you to claim your warranty. warranty you can claim either from date of manufactured, date of register or date of purchase with valid receipt.

Bobby bro, can we contact IBM regarding our warranty date? i've register my purchase date but their site still stating the old date.. dont know why.. even before i register my T60, the site already state a date.. (Why there is a date even i not yet register my ThinkPad?)

you can contact IBM regarding ur warranty date and to confirm also, meanwhile the warranty status that you checked online is the date from the date is manufatured, you can look on beside ur serial number that also state ur month and year. by the way, when u purchased ur notebook, reseller will have to key in the serial number and to whom they sell to and pass up to lenovo and ibm online. Therefore you no need to worry about ur warranty status and u may also use ur invoice as the date to proof ur purchase. I did come by customer that had past warranty just a week from the date manufatured that he checked online and he unable to proof his notebook is purchase later than a week as he lost his invoice, so I just find back customer particulars and reprint back for him to claim back his warranty and he is happy with it as date from purchase is also a valid to proof ur warranty period.

Btw i dont have my invoice anymore i sent it to Moduslink to claim Windows Vista.. (They state there they need to verify 'Original POP' and im soo stupid i sent them my original hard copy)

WoW, bobby3006 really helpful. Hey, i heard the new T61 based on santa rosa chipset would premier one month from now. Anyone heard bout that? I wonder how soon techdos would bring it in. Then i'll go get it brand new, better than being in doubt getting a second hand Thinkpad, haha. Techdos is in Mid Valley rite?

bobby, is there any chance i can extend my warranty now? my warranty expired on 17 july 2007

yes you can extend but u need to call IBM at 1800 88 8558 and ask them about the warranty extension. if they say ok then they will give u a service number if i not mistaken and then is either u will redirect to authorised dealer for purchase of extension or direct from them.

I went to Techdos LowYat Plaza 2 weeks ago but didn't see anymore Thinkpad on display.
Lenovo Malaysia website also never update their pricing on Thinkpad line whilst Singapore and Taiwan already got new models.

May I know is Lenovo going to suspend the retail sales on Thinkpad in Malaysia?

the answer is no....according to latest news at which is not officially announce yet...ibm may buy back their pc and notebook business...and lenovo malaysia have poor handling in webpage and unable to update their webpage on time with their new models....but ibm malaysia have much better info display in their server....do u notice it?

OMG! and this means ThinkPad price tag will be like before again? Rm10k for a low spec lappy?

I doubt IBM will re-purchase their PC division from Lenovo. The most it could do now is introduce its own new line of notebooks, but I doubt they would want to re-enter the PC market since it is so congested and margins are extremely slim.
Lenovo might have simply "forgotten" about the Malaysian market. I think for a country as big as Malaysia, they sell less Thinkpads than they do in Singapore and other developed nations, so they'd rather promote their own Y series. It's very unfortunate because Malaysian consumers don't appreciate why business notebooks are priced much higher than their consumer counterparts yet have lesser features (this applies to all brands).
