QUOTE(mopete @ Sep 19 2006, 01:31 PM)
So you replaced your Compaq V3000z with an IBM? Which one is better and why?

Thanks

Congrats on your new lappy  smile.gif
*
thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

v3000z - stylish, handsome design, great spec for vista, truly for multimedia entertainment (turion x2 64bit, gf 6150, dvd burner, 1gb ram, altec speaker, 14" brightview) n affordable price, BUT hdd heat problem (i hate this the most), 2.5 hours battery life (can change to 12cell Rm300++ but heavy) n easy to get dirty (fingerprint prone)

r60 - formal look, very very sturdy housing (underneath is magnesium alloy), top notch built quality (the lcd hinge is superb), best typing keyboard feel (u'll nvr know after u use this), point stick (i start to love this, more convenient than touch pad), high security functions, extreme great software support, can customise kao kao, 4-5 hours battery life (6 cell) depending usage, and the most happy thing, TOTALLY NO HEAT PROBLEM even full load, farewell to my cooler, can on 24hours now naked, only cons, u pay the same price but get low spec (256mb, dvd combo - these 2 can upgrade; not altec speaker but not too bad; core duo 32 bit n gma 950 only - but vista will take years to shift to 64bit, n i din play games either; not brightview lcd - my eyes find this better, more comfort for long hour usage (4-5hours); no card reader - just bought external 1 RM23 from vcool; no svideo - this isnt important if u din connect ur lappy to tv, but i wan it actually doh.gif)

both got pros n cons, if u r looking for an all rounded spec machine w an affordable price, v3000z.. if u can fork extra n wanna bring the lappy around always to surfing n typing, IBM is no doubt

my own preference, IBM R60, my main task is typing n surfing, n bring the lappy around college for assignments, thts suits me perfectly compare to v3000z which has short battery life n hdd heat problem.. if i wan an entertainment machine, i hv already go for high spec desktop, i wont play games in college, or starbucks blush.gif .. anyhow i didnt play any online games or others either, as i oledi got ps2 tongue.gif

edited: and 1 more thing, the thinklight is extremely cool to hv, it's a small light at the top of the lcd and shines to the keyboard, i can now type in the dark room icon_idea.gif

I know where you got it... it's from www.lelong.com.my by a woman named Kelly.
Am I right  icon_idea.gif ?

Anyway you can trust that the R60 will run fine for years to come because I got my R51e from her also  icon_rolleyes.gif last year and it's running as good as new till today.

She sells ThinkPads at real low price + free gifts (free usb mouse, usb keyboard and 5pcs Sony CD R/W), till date i still wonder where she got the stock from.

Any hints wtm?
*
ceh no syok u got me edi tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

yeah got from her, it's a real bargain, n she's a freelance, is helping others to sell actually

those stock comes from an advertising company, where the clients pay back the ibm laptop as return/gifts biggrin.gif

Mayb still safer to remove gua.  biggrin.gif
*
yeah it's always safer to do so, but i encounter 1 problem is, my steepstep doesnt run after i take the battery out, it looks like a common problem by the new thinkpad doh.gif

anyway i'm prefering taking it out, i'm a scare die person tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

here's a guide for taking care batteries
http://batteryuniversity.com/parttwo.htm

to summarize it,
QUOTE
Simple Guidelines

    * Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.

    * Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.

    * Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.

    * Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)

    * Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.

    * If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.

thanks bezitagt & Kiding for the support notworthy.gif

i tried to reformat the windows just now, it cant detect the hdd after setting to ACHI to install, looks like i need sata driver like old time? shocking.gif

i tried to install the intel matrix storage inside windows, but it terminated halfway n said no hardware is required to install this blush.gif

hv u all tried the 1.07 bios? actually after updating bios it doesnt hv problem, wat i did was, i load the default setting after updating to 1.07, boot inside windows, then go back bios n customise all the options including sata to achi, then bye bye no more boot into windows sweat.gif

yo bro!!! thanks for ur help once again!!!
this IBM clan is really great!
happppppppy to be one of it!

good support among the forumer.... what else can u expect?  icon_rolleyes.gif

just check the system update....
1.57GB total file size!!!!!

crazy! do i need to install all of them?

my windows startup is low....
it takes me more than 1 min to get into windows after restart.....
what could be the reason? anyone???

cry.gif
*
i dun really go for the system update, some of the utility i din use n size of download is reported incorrectly, it's always recommend to download it manually

windows start up slow might be caused by unneeded software loaded up or memory hugger antivirus like norton, or physical ram is too low, it's more on individual customisation, it's recommended to google how to tweak ur OS

my Fn + F9 Manager external devices is not working... any idea?
sorry to bother again....
*
Fn +F9 is functionable when u install easy eject utility, while Fn + F8 is UltraNav Wizard. i tried them before, which i found no use for me, so i uninstall them tongue.gif

i nvr install the rescue n recovery disk software either, as if anything happen to my com, i'll normally format it tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

just download it seperately from lenovo website, it used to be faster, u can use flashget or other 3rd party download program which can let u resume n split the connection to more wink.gif

you r welcome, like kiding n bezitagt, they help me a lot too, so in return i must help the new members rclxm9.gif
