I doubt IBM will re-purchase their PC division from Lenovo. The most it could do now is introduce its own new line of notebooks, but I doubt they would want to re-enter the PC market since it is so congested and margins are extremely slim.
Lenovo might have simply "forgotten" about the Malaysian market. I think for a country as big as Malaysia, they sell less Thinkpads than they do in Singapore and other developed nations, so they'd rather promote their own Y series. It's very unfortunate because Malaysian consumers don't appreciate why business notebooks are priced much higher than their consumer counterparts yet have lesser features (this applies to all brands).

Which is very true! Go any Starbucks u rarely see any ThinkPad there sad.gif
Malaysia user prefer higher spec machine that come with cheaper price or simple better looking machine (esp Vaio's or Mac lappy)

Hopefully IBM wont get back ThinkPad.. i still want to own more ThinkPad machine which i still can afford under Lenovo devision smile.gif

Cheers.

IBM is more associated to business. They have been maintaining the black similar figure over all the years, may be its the trade mark.Youngsters need something catchy like handphones today , colors and etc.

Trying to expand my 256 memory to my T42 by adding SODIMM 333PC2700, screen just went blank, still figuring what went wrong ...what a day

Hopefully it wil last for years as what I told my friends, this is gonna be my laptop for next few years. Even if it spoilt, the next lappy I am going to purchase is Thinkpad series as well. smile.gif

wat brand of memory that u expand to ur ibm thinkpad t42, as i know that t42 is choosy in matching ram. so i recommend u to try to get a genuine one or kingston KTM ram, if u wan the genuine, i will try to check from my office and see whether there is still left 256mb or 512mb.

sad to say that 9455A53 is no longer in market. i even have 3 customers that give me deposits on this unit with original price and no discount just to get this model but i had search through all the supplier and distributors and even check through IBm malaysia and there is no even a single unit left for this model. Just if lucky might there is some retailer might still have dead stock in their hand....hehe....

arrghhh ... sad to hear that. this is a real bargain. i like it comes with the option without any windows OS. i think i saw another series with similar spec, that comes with windows xp, and the price difference is so huge, around 4.2K if i was not wrong.

btw, bobby, r u guys going to bring in any z series that comes with 15.4" widescreen, or can special order be made?

tq

there is still no news about z series in malaysia but can be bring in from singapore model or u can buy straight from singapore. recently in asia concetration in thinkpad model is low and most of other notebook retailers prefer to sell lenovo more than thinkpad....is really destroying the thinkpad market...i really hope ibm buy back their business....im still waiting for time to come....

It just won't happen because IBM isn't keen on the PC market anymore. The Z series is also being slowly phased out as Lenovo is expected to launch a new T61 soon.
Not sure if guys notice, but the new Thinkpads are now shipping without the IBM tricolour logo anymore, making it a full Lenovo branded device.

thinkpad actually have widescreen, it just that the models available in Msia do not have widescreen series. i'm dying for one widescreen too. preferable 15.4" widescreen.

check out: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/control...E8E19B36EC665A7

btw, i see that thinkpad do not come in standarize, each country has different model, though they still stick to Z, R, T or X series.

maybe should make a bulk for thinkpad widescreen series ... hehehe
