yes, quality does matter, so far the design still looks the same, it just that without the IBM logo. i remember in some other countries, lenovo offers a thinkpad that comes with titantium color or wat, in silver, i think that spoilt the image of thinkpad as thinkpad should always comes in coooool black ... hehe ... my opinion

Hey, just believe me because I see a lot of Thinkpads everyday, so I know what I'm saying smile.gif

I don't understand what's the attachment/nostalgia with IBM's PC business. It no longer exist and Think machines were a legacy product from that division. The product line will remain as a brand of Lenovo since it is the cornerstone of the acquisition.

IBM has reshaped itself as a software and services firm (although they still retain their high margin server business). In the next decade, people will hardly even remember the days of the IBM computers.

The 15" T60s are no longer offered in 4:3 aspect ratio. They're now all widescreen since it is cheaper to produce them (widescreen LCDs are cheaper due to economies of scale). The ones still sold in the Malaysian market are most probably old stock (get them while you can). Are the T and X series even sold in Malaysia anymore? Lenovo seems to have scaled back Thinkpad distribution and sales in "emerging markets".

Lastly, shouldn't quality be about the same? I believe IBM has outsourced Thinkpad production for the last decade or so, like every other OEMs.

Bro, Its really hard to "Just Believe" couse i also see thinkPad everyday and i still see IBM logo on it (My T60) tongue.gif

But after i see the picture above i'll believe and totally agree with your quotes above. What i can do now is cross fingers and hope Lenovo will continue making good machine as in old IBM days.

Even without IBM logo or ThinkPad totally own by chinese firm.. i'll still continue support it as long as they can build good machine.. brand for me really nothing.. i just want to have a machine that can serve me well and give me less trouble.

I got few other lappy but until now i still keep typing on Lenovo ThinkPad.. Compare with my mom IBM made ThinkPad T43.. i feel lenovo build are not bad and can say par with IBM build machine smile.gif

Anyway.. Hope ThinkPad will survive longer then me tongue.gif thumbup.gif

Hah! So nice to see "IBM ThinkPad Mobile Computing Club" here! cool2.gif

Where can i immediately buy a compatible RAM (1GB) to add on to my ThinkPad T42, sytem model 2373P43? Kesington ram don't work on my machine. Do you reckon I should add 2GB straight away?

Please advice what's the cost and best place to get it - 1GB and 2GB so i can compare price. And with contact numbers too so I can call to check if they have it before I go all the way and to find it's "out of stock." Thanks!

And am signing in too! Here's the image of my wonderful machine...

Dear thinkpad user, first you need to verify whether your notebook is truly second hand. I am sorry to say this as if you unsure about the first hand user of this notebook you might get into stolen notebook as if you try to claim warranty from IBM and if they checked out this model and serial number had been reported stolen then they will get back this notebook to its original owner.

Very true. I stand witness to that. I was robbed of my older IBM T42 (without fingerprint) on 31 March 2005. Mid-July last year, I received a call from IBM to collect my notebook from Brickfields Police Station. rclxm9.gif

After I got it back, IBM checked the entire machine, reformatted the harddisk and replaced the DVD/CDRW drive FOC. thumbup.gif

So ThinkPad users, make sure you have registered your machine with IBM and if stolen, inform IBM and give them a photocopy of your Police Report.

After that, pray to God to get it back. Seriously. smile.gif

Yes, it IS hardy! A couple of years back, my ThinkPad X600 fell out of my backpack while running to my next appointment. I forgot to zip up my backpack in the car after delivering a document elsewhere before that. I heard a LOUD crash and almost died on seeing my ThinkPad on the ground of the carpark. Thought it was the end of it. To my surprise, the LCD screen was intact and no "internal injury" smile.gif

I'm glad to say Lenovo is still producing the ThinkPads eventhough under their brand name. How I know? Well, they loaned us their ThinkPads for the Visit Malaysia Cyber Campaign (VMCC) ground event at PIKOM PC Fair (I) to enable visitors to participate in the Most e-Cards Sent Challenge. In fact, they have been very supportive of VMCC. Lenovo also loaned us the ThinkPads at the previous VMCC ground event at Mid Valley, 7-11 March 2007.

In addition to that, Lenovo is this Quarter Grand Prize VMCC Sponsor (April-June). The winner of the Most E-Cards Sent Challenge will get the Lenovo Y300, the world's first notebook equipped with face recognition technology. Details, visit http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/446714 - gosh, i hope i have posted the competition at the right place? If not, please recommend and help us spread the news.

Opps, got carried away. I seriously don't think we have anything to worry about ThinkPads being manufactured by Lenovo. Go read About Lenovo at http://www.lenovo.com/lenovo/my/en/ smile.gif
