QUOTE(G-17 @ Oct 16 2019, 07:57 PM) I actually like the slightly rough PPC trackpads. Prefer them to glass, infact. Problem is, if it's anything like my old X220, the sandy surface will wear out due to oils from your fingers and the sensitivity will drop. I don't use trackpads that often (I'm a keybinding + TrackPoint guy), but I just don't want it to end up with a big black oily blob in the middle like my old one. my t495 is not sandy, its a smooth plastic like surface. not sure how the x390 track pad is.

QUOTE(kuci_mayong @ Oct 16 2019, 07:58 PM) my t495 is not sandy, its a smooth plastic like surface. not sure how the x390 track pad is. Maybe I exaggerated a little bit... It's not like sandpaper, but there's definitely some texture to it. Not smooth plasticky. One thing on my X390 that is super smooth is the rubber feet under the base. Put on glass coffee table and it slides back when I try to open the lid. No grip at all

I just got my X1 Carbon.
Now I want to re-install windows to get rid of the bloatware.
However, I'm worried that the Microsoft Office Home And Student will be lost.
Anyone knows or have done a reinstall before? Did you get your MS Office back?

I did a clean reinstall of Windows without doing any backups or getting the reactivation code (too itchy to get it over with so didnt wait for reply) As long as you activated with your Microsoft account before doing the Windows re-install, you can re-install microsoft office from the website.

I think you can also use the embedded OEM key if you're like me and refuse to create the outlook account. There's a powershell command (GIYF) to get it. That's what I did. grabbed the OEM key. Wiped Windows, installed Linux, installed Windows in a virtual machine and activated with the OEM key. Edit: For bloatware removal, there's the popular Windows10Debloater script. I don't run Windows on bare metal so cannot comment on how good it is on a fresh ThinkPad with Windows preinstalled, but I have used it on my VM Windows installations, and it does a decent job. Maybe I'm a careful person. lol. just asking if any of you having issue with thinkpad without screen protector. I never protected my old X220 in any way. It looks like it's been through the Dakar Rally - dings on lid, oil marks everywhere, geeky unix stickers covering up the "scars", some blotches on screen. I think it looks better like that. Sort of like patina on vintage watches or faded denim on old jeans. Shows it was used for its intended purpose. Only changed batteries and trackpoints (also replaced keyboard and SSD, but those were for different key layout and more disk write performance, not reliability issues) and had it re-pasted. Still runs flawlessly today. This kind of thing is really hard to predict. Sometimes you can treat even the cheapest budget laptop like shit and it'll still work fine 5 years down the line, and sometimes even the most premium laptop that you've babied like a precious teddy bear and used in a dust-proof room can die for no reason. I think that, if it's not a touchscreen, then regular use is fine without any protector. Just wipe it down once or twice a month with a clean microfiber cloth or something.
