Chill.

Why is dual channel ram is so important for this product target consumer?

2k+ is the lowest price range.

Between rm2k to rm4k, how many with 2 ram slot ( that allow up to 16gb ram) that has a nice screen?

In other words, how many below rm4k laptop can go 16gb ram that has a nice screen?

Agreed, This is not a thinkpad, it's a thinkbook. Thinkbook is not a performance laptop. Lenovo tagline itself for this product is "Where work & leisure unite".

People who buy this probably just want something good enough to run Microsoft Office, Youtube, Facebook, watch movies etc.

Brah, people buy it just because it’s only RM1k, not because it’s a beast machine or so.

If want to spend RM2k-3k for an ultrabook, X395 will be the smarter choice. But from value point of view, you paid extra RM2k more than a RM1k thinkbook, but the performance and experience gain is hardly 2x.

You will get accustomed to the 40ish ms delay, all laptops are like that, even those highend panels like X1 Extreme’s 4K 500nits HDR display does so too. The tech and general market demand hardly complain about it, as it’s also part of the formula to keep your laptop battery lasting longer. High resolution, high brightness and high refresh rates will all eat up your laptop battery faster.

However, there’s an exception - OLED display for some ultra premium laptops, which had arguably better image quality and reaction time. But not only does it cost you more than an arm and a leg, it’s also having issue with PWM brightness control, which can totally spoiling the premium experience after you paying for >RM10k for your laptop.
*
One advantage the thinkbook 13s has over the x390/x395 is battery life, according to this, it can last up to 9 hours compared to 7 hours with x390 in their testing. Also I do think it looks more stylish with its aluminum built, compared to the black thinkpad style.

One RAM slot available without any soldered on.....officially only up to 16GB, but a 32GB memory module should be supported.
*
It's 16gb because that's the max that Lenovo sells it for.

But officially, that processor itself is able to take in 32gb base on the processor specs.

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark...o-3-90-ghz.html

(Max 64gb for 2 slots, but since 1 ram slot, only 32gb)

Anyway can make use with DDR4 2666mhz?
I had the only one , I think can try it out , if can’t support got beep sound at C Mode.
*
i never tried before, but i have seen people buy DDR4-2666 for a DDR4-2400 system and it still works, just that the DDR4-2666 will not utilize its maximum potential and will downgrade to DDR4-2400 bus clock speeds.

Because my last P1 gen 2 and X1 C6 was glass surface lol.
No wonder selling cheaper
*
its still solid laptop, just the mouse surface, is noisy when you glide the finger on it, i rather it was silent.

Anyways, the thinkbook 13s should be glass surface, can't wait to try that out.

Thinking of one for my X390. Not interested in full-body skins. Just want to cover trackpad with a thin film, hopefully exact fit and I don't have to cut myself. Any merchants/resellers you can recommend?
*
I got from china thanks to Benefon suggestion.

Here's the link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33021467151.html

Anyways, if you are just using it recently, try give it some time to adjust to the mouse pad, i notice from day 1 to now, the feeling is better, maybe i just got used to it, or the trackpad just needed to be used (sort of like driving new tyres and after changing your car's breaking system, just needs time to wear in)

I actually like the slightly rough PPC trackpads. Prefer them to glass, infact. Problem is, if it's anything like my old X220, the sandy surface will wear out due to oils from your fingers and the sensitivity will drop. I don't use trackpads that often (I'm a keybinding + TrackPoint guy), but I just don't want it to end up with a big black oily blob in the middle like my old one.
*
my t495 is not sandy, its a smooth plastic like surface. not sure how the x390 track pad is.

I did a clean reinstall of Windows without doing any backups or getting the reactivation code (too itchy to get it over with so didnt wait for reply)
As long as you activated with your Microsoft account before doing the Windows re-install, you can re-install microsoft office from the website.

Nice info 👍

can anyone tell me what's the difference between 65W and 45W for the configuration? if i pick 65w does that mean that i cant charge my laptop with 45w chargers?
*
Still can, just 65W is like smartphone fast charging, you can charge your laptop 80% in one hour.
45W is just slower charging.

Always go with 65W if you can. Even the price of the 65W charger if buy alone is more expensive compared to 45W.

T495 bro, just got it this September.
*
I am using T495 too, my laptop charges really fast like 10% to 80% in 1 hour, or fully charge in around 1.5 hours. (50,450 mWh battery)

01:29:52 Active AC 10 % 5,160 mWh
03:06:10 Active Battery 97 % 48,880 mWh

I think you should call CS and maybe try change your charger, could be the charger is faulty.

Btw on another note, I am facing this issue sometimes, not all the time, if i charge my laptop when the laptop is off, it does not charge, only charges when i turn it on, do you face the same thing?

Hey guys, anyone here using the T495 with the 3500U CPU? Would like to check on your idle and load temps, I'm having a problem where on idle, it's north of 80C and when I do image export on Lightroom (raw to PNG) it will go up to 97+C and throttle down freq to ~800hz.

Brought this to the service center, technician mentioned this might be normal for AMD CPUs.

*
I don't think that is normal. If you're on windows have you updated bios and windows to latest. I notice my system gets better with each update.
anyways here is snapshot of my T495 temperature when max load and idle:

P53 has bad cooling, even with more powerful hardware it couldn't perform well. Do you really powerful hardware though.

So true, even the same chip but in different hardware can perform 30% better.

limited to single channel memory

L15 has dual...
*
I see people talk about the benefits of dual-channel RAM when it only comes to gaming. Many office laptops now seem to come with single channel RAM only. The main reason could be now you can easily buy 8GB, 16GB, 32GB stick RAM, in the past this use to be quite pricey.

Bit the bullet and picked up a T495s for RM 2.9k

While it was tempting to wait for R4000 refresh, Q2 can be anywhere from 1 - 4 months away, and the price at launch won’t meet my budget probably - if I look at where the current E14 model are priced.

😔🤞

Waiting now is just a guessing game, nobody can really say.

Hey bro, so sorry for the late reply! I missed out the noti and didn't check out the thread for a long time  bangwall.gif  bangwall.gif  bangwall.gif
As for my issue with the charging, it's solved now. I think the problem was because the Japan voltage wasn't the same which cause the charger to be so unstable (it was fine when I first arrived in Japan). No more issue after I returned to Malaysia since February.
Btw, I am getting this Thinkplus Lipstick 65W Charger from ThinkPad Official Flagship Shop for it's small and light features!

As for the issue you faced, I've never face it so far. Even when it was off, it just able to charge properly so far.

But sometimes I have issue with the trackpad, just can't move the cursor. Was thinking if it was my finger oily or with sweat on it. But usually if I just put it to sleep and boot it on after just few seconds, the problem resolved. Wonder if it's my trackpad problem or not.
*
I still face the issue when plugged the T495 (while off) doesn't charge the laptop. My workaround is to just charge it when it's turned on and then turn off the laptop, it normally will continue charging.

As for trackpad you can consider a trackpad film or plastic protector for it.

I know this is slowpoke news

Who will consider buying ThinkPad preloaded with Fedora Linux?
*
I think many would consider this especially if they can get the laptop at a much affordable price.

I am not into linux, and not sure if this is feasible but later on install their favorite OS like Mac or Windows on it. (Assuming they manage to save a ton of money by doing so)

Maybe u can contact for the premiere support.
I've contacted for the trackpad issue and they said will check the part availability and may send staff over to replace it.
*
Not a big issue, can live with it. Overall very happy with it the laptop.

QUOTE(Benefon @ May 13 2020, 11:54 AM)
Hahah same as my previous T490 , the surface very roughly, not as smooth as Yoga Series or ThinkPad Extreme series

To be honest, X395 much better than T490
*
That’s why last time ask you on it also, then you’re the one recommend me the trackpad sticker to place on it. Really make a big difference.

Saw the X1 Carbon Gen 8 release but the price really expensive. I wonder why so pricey at rm7000++ but see the specs like so so only. Is it cause it’s very thin form factor?

I'm also very satisfied with the laptop. Performance wiise totally suit my needs. Battery life acceptable for me, but believe it could still get better. But one thing I was unhappy was that the build back in August 2019 was not allowed to get Fingerprint sensor on 300nits display. Recent build it's allowed dy. Just additional RM38 for such a convenient function. I really wonder is it possible to install one in the future lol.

Btw, mind giving me the link/source where to get the trackpad sticker?

Try lazada, shopee, AliExpress, Taobao and search for similar keywords below:

MYR 17.33 | Matte TOUCH PAD TrackPad Touchpad film Sticker Protector For Lenovo Thinkpad X280 X390 T480 T490 T480s T580 T590 laptop skin
https://a.aliexpress.com/_dXLQzKT

This is the one I got but I wouldn’t recommend it cause it has a sort of soft “sand paper” texture and you may prefer something more “smooth” instead like that of a smartphone screen protector.
