What's listed on ark.intel is not necessary true....

For instance I'm running 32GB on my J5005 processor....which I believe I could run even up to 64GB...when it's listed as only 8GB

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark...o-2-80-ghz.html

Most Intel kabylake and above CPUs should be able to handle standard 32GB sticks (non Asus proprietary 32GB ones)

32GB sodims....maybe just limited to Samsung ones for now...

i never tried before, but i have seen people buy DDR4-2666 for a DDR4-2400 system and it still works, just that the DDR4-2666 will not utilize its maximum potential and will downgrade to DDR4-2400 bus clock speeds.

I think that is an Intel limitation for this specific generation of U series processors. From what I read, most of the Whisky Lake ThinkPads (can confirm for X390 and T490s - both these use same mobo) that have soldered RAM actually have the 2666 module soldered on. It's just downclocked to 2400 via the BIOS or Embedded Controller. I wager it should be the same case for those models that have one slot for RAM sticks; can put in 2666 but like you say, will be downclocked to 2400.

Anyone with experience using x390 and x1 carbon recommend me a either for a business laptop?. Email, MS office apps, browsing and occasional netflix.

My decisions to buy X390 were;

1. Price. Didn't want to spend too much, since this is a personal machine not used for work.

2. Screen resolution vs size - for me 13" is maximum I'll go for FHD/1080p. If bigger 14" screen like X1C, I would need the 1440p screen upgrade, which increases the price further.

3. Read a lot of QC issues with 6th and 7th Gen X1C units

4. DDR4@X390 vs DDR3@X1C

5. I'm a Linux user, so AMD options like X395 were not an option due to AMD's poor history of power management and lack of LVFS support (to upgrade BIOS and EC firmware) on Linux.

6. Warranty add-ons; Compared to other models like X1C 7th or T490s, the X390 had the best warranty add-on offers at the time I ordered - 3yr premier + 3yr Sealed Battery Warranty + 3yr Accidental Damage all for RM1 each.

My X390 arrived a few days ago, but haven't had time to sit down and give it a proper go yet. At the moment, based on hardware alone, so far I have one complaint - USB Type A ports are damn tight. Really need to push my thumbdrive really hard to get it in. Will post a short review in a couple of weeks, but my usage will be based on Linux only, so maybe won't apply to you.

Shipping is free tax , Lenovo UPS courier will handle the rest.
But this is a bit slower.
Payment wise : direct bank in need take few days to process, credit card payment no issue at all.

The price you paid to Lenovo.my already include shipping and Kastam.
Normally the problem will be from no import permit, which is handled by Lenovo, which can cause a few days delay.

Yes. Very slow. 40 days for delivery for a 4 weeks delivery time frame. If urgent, better buy from retail.

No QC issue also on my i5 X1C6 which I bought late last year.
My wife has been using the laptop for the past few months for works as she prefers the form factor and weight over her laptop.

Do a search on /r/thinkpad. You'll find a few. I'm not saying it's a bad laptop, but there have been more reported problems for the 6th and 7th gen.
I can link you more on dedicated Linux forums later if you want.

Everyone faces that. No need to worry. You don't need to do anything. Lenovo people on the ground will settle. Worse case, release from customs late and expected delivery late by one day.
