Need opinion from seasoned veterans, should I buy a Lenovo Thinkpad X390 now using the Malaysia pre-cybersale code or wait for the cybersale itself in hopes of more discounts?

X390 is not so enticing for me as someone coming from Kaby-Lake i5. It’s not an enjoyable experience to live totally on Intel UHD620.

X395 is at a much better value than X390, unless for some reasons you really need the TB3 port, then that’s another story.

P/S: X395 is very cheap under CITIbank month end (previous and upcoming) 45% off sale.

P/S 2: if you’re new to Lenovo, you should at least understand that they can be quite tricky with their sales and price to pray on uninformed newcomers. For example, T495 is on 25% off sale for last few days (Malaysia day sale), and the effective starting price work out to be RM2.2k for the base model. Now the same thing under pre-cybersale promo is starting at RM3.3k, but they claim it’s a 30% discount, really funny if you’re unaware of their tricks.

P/S 3: after you understand how they play around on the price about, they still do offer really cheap price and good deals from time to time. So better do your homework and monitor the price of the models you interested at for a period, then you can see the pattern around

Thanks for this!

I am looking specifically for a laptop that is light and hard-wearing.
Thus, I am looking at the T-series.
X1 feels too expensive.
Looking to spec out the X390 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SDD.
I won't be doing any serious gaming on it, thus, I don't mind not having a GPU.

I thrust notebookcheck more.

Also market general practice nowadays, for those devices with only one TB3 port, 99.9% chances it runs on PCIEx2. Only those with 2 TB3 ports can safely say is X4, cause intel’s specifications stated such requirements.

I just got this in email:

'Exception Reason: An import license is missing and is required for clearance.'

Is it going to result in a delay. If so, how long?

I just got my X1 Carbon.

Now I want to re-install windows to get rid of the bloatware.

However, I'm worried that the Microsoft Office Home And Student will be lost.

Anyone knows or have done a reinstall before? Did you get your MS Office back?

Thanks!
I did a clean reinstall of Windows without doing any backups or getting the reactivation code (too itchy to get it over with so didnt wait for reply)
As long as you activated with your Microsoft account before doing the Windows re-install, you can re-install microsoft office from the website.
