Added on July 6, 2011, 2:36 pmPoadster very technical, so if you simply explain, then will kena taruh la.. you should have asked does cvt accelerate on 1st gear from 0-100 instead of making it sound like you were claiming your cvt was on 1st gear all the time = which to us would mean you're on sports mode/paddle shift gear 1, not full auto

and yeah, the beauty of our car is you will not feel the "change in gears" like conventional autos

haiyaa itu proton punya brochure penat2 promote smooth curve graph versus jagged curve graph picturing the acceleration.. isn't it obvious? xD

sorry for not making last friday tt.. was still doing maintenance in johor.. trying to ignore that gear 'klak' sound and the klak feel on the gear nob.. but the driver sind wind noise is getting really bad well anyway, driving long distance is really a pleasure but danger is even when cruising you wont notice your speed is 140 @_@ i'm praying won't get any saman next month.. well heres a little experience of my trip back to kl (trip pegi bawak steady, otw back dah tak tahan hahaha)

i left office at senai about 10.30pm.. worried about speedtraps/roadblocks cos johor really alot of it (i kena double roadblock too.. about 1-2 km apart haha.. they pancing you to speed after the first one i think) so drove within speed limit, and good opportunity to test the cruise control, which i now find really useful didnt know holding the +/- accel button for over 1 second will make you either rev high or brake harder too .. so feels like im playing a video game hahaha

after some time i saw two cars speeding up behind me so i move aside and let them pass, a white bmw and a white neo cps tailing closely... i thought, hey, would be cool to have a 3 white car convoy so i joined in (plus if kena roadblock ada geng hahah) .. bmw couldn't run away from neo, and following the neo, i actually had to brake alot of times cos getting too close to the neo.. had fun then all parted ways and i went back to cruising

then later another car came up, a white merc cls350, decided to follow also.. apart from the fact that after 200 the merc still kept going and pulled away from me, acceleration was comparable (but in D, ada abit of lag while our car realises that we are flooring so lost out just at those sudden acceleration moments, paddling would have fixed that i guess).. had a moment where a car was hogging the lane and we were down to 60kmph, but after it moved aside, both full accel to 180 and i was following closely at the same distance, the merc couldn't pull away at all.. felt real happy about that hehe.. the merc did move aside once for me but i slowed down and let him lead just to show im just having a little fun and not tunjuk bagus or anything.. so he got the message and off we went again all the way until sg besi tol

so in the end, from senai, i reached chitta mall near saujana in 2.5 hours best thing was my full tank with that flooring trip still did around 550++ km

Try this part no (stated on my plastic during packaging), 8614A038. I don't think proton have since they never have this switch on their previous model. Better ask mitsu parts or standard spare parts.

well, one time from sg petani heading back to kl, i did a short convoy with a white Lancer GT with a Penang plate. Whats more surprising, he didnt pull away and we both kept constant cruising speed.

I guess the advantage of manual inspira is the short burst of acceleration and a good FC (in my case lar ;P)

MT can whack all u wan without worryin on the gear box and can hit beyond 220km/h.
i hit redline/beyond 6.5k rpm at 2nd gear with rpm cut off twice

Yup.... u maintain redline for too long, our Smart car will punish you by cutting the balls gears off and you are back to neutral... my heart skipped two beats when it just died... tot I had killed it the very first time I experience it...

Happens to both MT and CVT gearboxes.... Smart indeed...

And you two are really gung ho.... maintain redline at gears 2 and 3.....

1 question, will the gear box die faster when we change from auto to paddle shifters?

Technically yes, but modern cars have ECU and sensors to help prolong the life...

In both auto and paddle mode, the gearbox is the same, its just that in D mode, there is no fixed ratio (unlike a conventional gearbox)... the CVT will maintain the best rpm to suit the speed and driver requirement, but as there is no fixed ratio, you wont feel the gears going up and down... just look at your RPM meter, u will see it "hunt" and you hear your engine suddenly roars as the CVT is trying to maintain the best rpm for the required speed...

In Paddle Shift mode, you are simply telling the ECU to engage the "fixed ratio" mode to simulate 6 speeds.... in this mode, you control when to upshift or downshift... thus allowing you to drag the car for better torque in the MIVEC zone...

As said in the previous few posts, in both mode, the CVT will upshift automatically or even cut off if the redline RPM is maintained for prolonged period. This is done to preserve the life of the gearbox in the event the driver forgets to upshift...

Best solution is that if you do drag redline RPM most of the time, regular and short period gaps for CVT oil is recommended.... i'd ignore Proton's rubbish recommended period of 80,000km and stick to Mitsu's 40,000km, in fact, if you do drag a lot... do it at 20,000km...

A word of caution tho... frequent dragging at redline RPM WILL reduce the total lifetime of the gearbox in the long run....

My inspiring moment today...nearly kena tangkap for running red lights....these cops are hiding behind the flyover near the junction between Damansara Uptown/Damansara Jaya near the LDP. I was moving quiet slowly near the traffic light (Saya Pemandu Berhemah™ ), suddenly see yellow, then step on it!!! Managed to reach the other side when it turns red...turn right and voila...tons of cops crawling there..one fat cop was literally glued to the flyover wall to catch people....luckily i didn't get stopped...coz i think i made it over just in time for the lights to turn red....hahahaha.

That hotspot is famous already for road blocks, if you kena means damn sui, BUT lucky the inspira has the juices to give you the power...you can see now how that power of the Inspira start corrupting you to be like a Gollum,

just like what the Ring did to smeagol in LOTR... just make sure you dont turn up to become one...
