While in general the contis are heading towards smaller and more efficient engines, they can only achieve the power by incorporating turbos. Long term wise any idea how is the maintenance for turbos?
430km a week = 22,360km per annum. That's just a bit above average isn't it? The general rule of thumb is 20,000km per year (which is often what the warranties are pegged at).
Sure its above average. Thats why i had to get unlimited mileage warranties. But my reply was in response to KepalaPening who said he drives long distances per year as justification for the Camry. But i drive more and so do many others. Just sharing info with him.

Respectable enough it seems -

Here's some facts according to their brochure

0 to 100 in 10.3s

Usable torque will kick in very fast compared to its larger sized rivals.

200Nm @ 1500RPM - 4000RPM

I think FC can't be that great since the car is so heavy!

No point talking about features because this isn't sold here.
Any idea whats the 0-100kmph for the Camry 2.0 and Camry 2.5? Some websites claim the 2.5V as 9.8 secs.

You must ask yourself: "needed for what?"

If you want more power, yeah in general a bigger engine will give you more power.

If you want more fuel efficiency, in general a bigger engine will not give you better fuel efficiency. U can compare the consumption figure of the Passat 1.4 vs Camry 2.5 which I have posted above.
Spot on. Thats wht im trying to figure out. He keeps saying bigger engine and yet all his reasoning behind getting a bigger engine can also be provided by smaller engines. So im confused as to his real needs. rclxub.gif

So, bigger engine is needed right.
Still waiting for your actual 100% city driving mileage figures. hmm.gif

The same goes for interior space as everybody knows the Camry isnt the car with the biggest interior space in the D segment category. The Teana, Accord & Mondeo all have more interior space while the Optima has about the same space as your Camry. But where space is concerned, the Camry is still acceptable.
*
I dunno, actually I disagree. I sat in the back seat in the Optima and I still find the Camry to be more spacious and comfortable. Yes, it also feels more spacious and comfortable even compared to my Passat in this respect. Surprisingly, when I was in the Teana back seat, I still don't feel like it is as spacious.

Even though internal dimension wise, they are either equal or larger than the Camry but for some odd reason, the rear seating space of the Camry feels enormous to me.

Comfort yes. The Camry's seats are more comfortable compared to the Optima. Same goes for the suspension. And yes i think the Camry is marginally more spacious inside but not by alot. I still think the Teana and Accord are the biggest inside among these few makes.

But how did u test interior legroom?

Are all the internal dimensions available for all those models? I haven't really checked but not always possible to get detailed internal dimensions for all cars.

Anyway, I agree that the Camry feels spacious inside. If indeed the other cars have larger internal dimensions then the Toyota fellas must have some magic to warp the perception of space in their favour biggrin.gif

Every passenger can do "sila panggung" in Camry except for the driver of course---unless the auto cruise is activated.

I guess this is where the reliability of Toyota comes into play.

Over the last 5 years I did 131k km with my Camry. No problems with the car, just send for scheduled maintenance every 10k km. It's this kind of hassle free ownership that attracts some people to Toyota.

The seats make alot of difference but i have internal legroom dimensions for you (in inches):

Camry - 80.5 (204.47cm)
Optima - 80.1 (203.45cm)
Sonata - 80.1 (203.45cm)
Accord - 79.7 (202.44cm)

Is this in combination of both front and rear legroom?

Because if it is, the Camry is superior even to the Mercedes Benz E class which only offers a total of 77.1 inches (195.8cm)

If that is the case, no wonder I have friends telling me the Camry feels bigger than the Merc E class on the inside.

Yes i agree. I had 9 yrs of problem free service from my Vios. But the thing is, although Toyota has set the bar with quality and after sales service, over the years many car manufacturers have caught up substancially. So the gap isnt all that wide anymore. But in terms of quality, i think Toyota has dropped a little over the past 3 years or so.

But the chart would indicate otherwise, at least for US anyway

As usual Lexus leads the rest of the pack, while Hyundai is also sitting nicely above the industrial average.

E class has average legroom and worst of all, you feel cramped with 4 people in it. only illusion to uncramp the car is by uncovering the sun/moon roof, hence giving an impression of 'space' lol. im 181cm by the way.

The C class is quite cramped too. Total internal legroom is 75.1 inches only. BMW 3 Series is 77.1 inches.

general A,B,C segment contis were not really known for their internal space. look at A4's boot size. probably full with 2 golf sets. unless we are talking about S class and the 7, else only reason to get a conti is for the driving experience.

Is there a handy resource listing the internal legroom for different car models?

This just in. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Finance Minister, is reading his Budget 2012 speech at the moment, and he has already touched on something that involves the auto sector, announcing that incentives given to hybrid cars have been extended till 31 December 2013!

Here’s some background: In Budget 2011, the government introduced FULL import duty and excise duty exemption for hybrid and electric cars and motorcycles.

Previously, it was 100% import duty exemption and 50% excise duty exemption, Budget 2011 made it 100% exemption for BOTH import duty and excise duty. The deal, for hybrid cars with 2.0 litre engines and below, was supposed to expire on Dec 31, 2011.

This has led to huge growth in sales for hybrid models such as the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius, while Lexus took advantage of this incentive to bring in the CT 200h hatchback at an attractive price. Honda Malaysia and UMW Toyota will be happy with today’s announcement and can plan ahead from now, bringing in more of the hybrids.
cross your finger the car is 2.0 and below engine
