The convenience of staying on-campus is priceless. If you do not get the room you want you probably have yourself to blame for
1) Late submission, or 2) You actually picked the room as a 2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th choice. The rule of thumb is that if you don't want it, don't pick it. If you picked it and given it, just freaking take it. I hope I won't have problems starting my engine for Year 2. I forgot almost everything from Year 1, and I heard thermo 2 will be hell. I am looking forward to the Dynamics class by Hazem, NOT!. |

I submitted my application in early June and was allocated a room that wasn't among my six choices. I was told that there has been a lot of confusion this year following the change in management of EduSquare and some halls. This post has been edited by redhibiscus: Aug 30 2011, 03:02 PM |

A lot of people have negative comments about them, but I personally have high praise over them - they are not nasty fellows like Hazem. They could have weird teaching methods/deliveries, but they are more than happy to help anytime if you approach them.1) Late submission, or 2) You actually picked the room as a 2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th choice. (Be glad that Dr Amir took over CAI on Year 3 since 2 years ago, or you'll get another Hazem on Year 3!) Just to share on my case:)
I guess I am considered late to apply for on-campus accommodation, I think I applied it on the information day of Nottingham on 13th August. I was really anxious that time, as I was told by my friend who has submitted her application months ago that she did not get a single and was offered her third choice which is shared room. I was really really disappointed by that, as I was really really hoping for a single room, lol. So I asked my dad to fetch me to the uni itself on its info day, and it happened that there's a accommodation booth there. So I dropped by, asked the person-in-charged ( I think he's a student helper there) if there's any single room left, begging him to help me in every possible ways. So what he did was, rang up the accommodation office and said " hey I have a student here who's looking for a single room, is it any available still? If there's, she will be making the payment right away" And of course what I got was a positive answer So my advice to other students who really really looking for a single room or your first choice, you can probably drop by the office itself if possible, and bring along your parents if can, I guess that'd be more efficient in getting your problems solved. *Just sharing* |

Talk about Malaysian management. I was just trying my luck to drop by at the accommodation office on the info day as I said earlier, I didn't know how exactly the management works. Of course I was happy when I got what I wanted when I asked if they still have any single room left. After he rang up the office to check with one malay lady, and it happened that they said they can offer me my choice *they're not saying that you must be able to pay right away only we're able to offer you* So he ask me to wait for a while to check on availability of the room that I requested. After a few minutes on the phone, he said they will allocate me to single room with ensuite bathroom and ask if I want to take it. After confirm that I'd like to accept the offer, he straight guided me to the finance office to make the payment. It's not like I have robbed sth else from sb. Because when I was there, I asked if there're still a lot of single room left, the guy said actually they still have quite some number left but it's highly demanded. So I was baffled too why didn't they offer my friend her first choice as she has submitted her application months ago. So I straight rang up my friend, ask her to check with the office. Main intention here is just to share my experience to other students, so that they can try their best to drop by the uni if possible, to seek solution with the people in charged over there. |

After he rang up the office to check with one malay lady, and it happened that they said they can offer me my choice *they're not saying that you must be able to pay right away only we're able to offer you* I think this is how they work, take INTI as an example. Back then I know this Assistant Manager of Admission Office who happened to be managing stuffs for Accommodation as well. He told me that the Accommodation Office will always allocate a percentage of the empty rooms to release to those students who come to education fairs/open days (provided that the student confirm on the spot that they are interested to study there and have provided all the necessary documents for the paperwork and all that la).So he ask me to wait for a while to check on availability of the room that I requested. After a few minutes on the phone, he said they will allocate me to single room with ensuite bathroom and ask if I want to take it. After confirm that I'd like to accept the offer, he straight guided me to the finance office to make the payment. It's not like I have robbed sth else from sb. Main intention here is just to share my experience to other students, so that they can try their best to drop by the uni if possible, to seek solution with the people in charged over there. Coz they don't want to say "Sorry we don't have any [type of rooms] left" to all the parents and students who come to their booth during fair or open day. So it ends up those who went for the open day/fair are slotted into the empty rooms from the percentage they have allocated, whereas those who submitted their application the "normal" way like the most of us will have to compete among ourselves and being placed in the infamous waiting list. Then, once all the open days and fairs are over, then only they release the unoccupied rooms back to those still in the waiting list. He said again tho, let's say you want Type A room as your first choice, then never put it as the first, put it in second or third. And put your second choice as your first. Chances are you won't be thrown into the category where you get a room that you don't want at all. <-- Take no absolute credit for this I don't want the trick to backfire on you. Hai. I have a question here regarding MPharm entry requirements.
I found this in their website about the english language requirement. One of the following qualifications is required for the MPharm programme: -English Language (O level or GCSE) Grade C or SPM Grade A+ or A1; -An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 6.5, with a minimum score of at least 6.0 in each of the four individual elements of the test; -A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 573 (TWE of at least 4.5) or the internet based test (iBT) with score of at least 88 (no less than 19 in any elements); -IB Language A must be English at 5 points; -MUET Band 5 may also be considered. If I got an A+ for English in SPM, means that I already met the requirement or I still have to take IELTS or something equivalent?? Hope someone there can answer me, thank you. |

QUOTE(sotong1992 @ Aug 31 2011, 11:15 AM) Thank you. If your competition is not asking for all those English requirement, where it is seen as a hassle by most applicants, you need to include some alternative that allows them to skip the international English tests.Just my personal view. Because SPM standard is quite low compared to IELTS, TOEFL and even MUET, so how can they put SPM as one of the english language requirement? To be honest, an A1 in SPM will roughly sit out a 6.5 or above in IELTS as well. So, it's roughly the same. Can't tell about the C for 1119 though. |

QUOTE(Katrina91 @ Aug 31 2011, 01:19 AM) Just to share on my case:) This is outrageous. The message the university is sending out is that those who can drop in personally and use their parents' muscle is at an advantage over those who applied early and followed proper procedure. How typically corrupt. Most international students can't apply in person and some of us are mature enough to have cut ourselves off mummy's apron strings. The last time I checked, this is Nottingham University, not Nottingham Sixth Form College. And whatever happened to giving priority to international students and students who live far away from campus? If Katrina's dad can "fetch" (sic) her to the campus, I'm guessing that she lives somewhere in KL or Selangor.I guess I am considered late to apply for on-campus accommodation, I think I applied it on the information day of Nottingham on 13th August.
