Hello everyone:) I will be going to nottingham this coming september, and was assigned to Langkawi Hall. I have visited the hostels last week, and honestly, I am really disappointed with the quality of the hostel that they provided, I mean it's not on par with the price that they are charging. Anyhow, will still going to bear with it for two months first. Lol.

Just want to ask if anyone know how they charge for other electrical appliances that we bring in, like stand fan, radio and etc? was planning to sneak in with a small portable air-conditioner too. Haha.

Hi entryman and tanjinjack ( err, I am sorry, I have not idea how to reply back on the post). Thank you for helping me with the questions. Thank You:)

Hmm yes, the quality of the hostel is really... not worth the money that we're paying. I guess they kinda like see that since choices are really limited for the students, especially for those new one, we have no place to go other than edu square or on-campus hostel, so they are taking every advantage they can from the students. lol

Let's not compare to those international one, at least like hostel at Inti Nilai, they are charging the same price for the single room with ensuite bathroom with a/c without having separate meter for the usage of electricity. Not to mention the rooms all are well-furnished.

Now, I am hoping that my classes will not be that packed, so that I can travel back and forth between uni and home.

Anyhow, thank you for the helps. Appreciate!

I'm a bit surprised that you would think INTI Nilai's rooms are better than Nottinghams'. I was from there actually and yes they do not charge utilities on a separate bill. But the price quite exp also lur, my room cost about 700+ a month, single with own bathroom.

And there are nasty guards who check your lugs when you bring big boxes or things like that.

Oh that's because my friend was from there as well with a single room, around rm 300. Hmm, I never been there before, was just browsing through their brochure on accommodation, it seemed not bad to me. lol. May be pictures are always nicer la.
Another friend of mine is studying at IMU, so she rent a master bedroom there in a condominium, around rm 400 excluding utility bills. Kinda feel like the rentals around nottingham are all overpriced, since there's a demand there more than supply. I have a uncle who lived at semenyih last year (around 10km from nott) before he moves to Kedah, he actually rent a whole house with only rm300 p/m. *Not trying to compare here, just feeling a bit heartache on the money that spent on something which are not worth the price, no choice*

entryman, I am from Klang.

Just to share on my case:)

I guess I am considered late to apply for on-campus accommodation, I think I applied it on the information day of Nottingham on 13th August. I was really anxious that time, as I was told by my friend who has submitted her application months ago that she did not get a single and was offered her third choice which is shared room.

I was really really disappointed by that, as I was really really hoping for a single room, lol. So I asked my dad to fetch me to the uni itself on its info day, and it happened that there's a accommodation booth there. So I dropped by, asked the person-in-charged ( I think he's a student helper there) if there's any single room left, begging him to help me in every possible ways.

So what he did was, rang up the accommodation office and said " hey I have a student here who's looking for a single room, is it any available still? If there's, she will be making the payment right away" And of course what I got was a positive answer rclxms.gif Yay, really thrilled, got offer single ensuite bathroom and am alocated to langkawi hall.

So my advice to other students who really really looking for a single room or your first choice, you can probably drop by the office itself if possible, and bring along your parents if can, I guess that'd be more efficient in getting your problems solved.

*Just sharing*

Somebody, who have queued up for the single ensuite room via postal/email application got robbed off because you are able to pay right away. Talk about Malaysian management.

I was just trying my luck to drop by at the accommodation office on the info day as I said earlier, I didn't know how exactly the management works. Of course I was happy when I got what I wanted when I asked if they still have any single room left. After he rang up the office to check with one malay lady, and it happened that they said they can offer me my choice *they're not saying that you must be able to pay right away only we're able to offer you*

So he ask me to wait for a while to check on availability of the room that I requested. After a few minutes on the phone, he said they will allocate me to single room with ensuite bathroom and ask if I want to take it. After confirm that I'd like to accept the offer, he straight guided me to the finance office to make the payment.

It's not like I have robbed sth else from sb. Because when I was there, I asked if there're still a lot of single room left, the guy said actually they still have quite some number left but it's highly demanded. So I was baffled too why didn't they offer my friend her first choice as she has submitted her application months ago. So I straight rang up my friend, ask her to check with the office.

Main intention here is just to share my experience to other students, so that they can try their best to drop by the uni if possible, to seek solution with the people in charged over there.
