University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
It's for current students, for future students, and, by all mean, for ex-students as well!
Pictures
Why study here- We learn under
authentic UK education, using the course structures, course materials and same papers for some of the modules same as our sister campus in UK. This leads us to identical degrees with our friends in the UK campus - you get the same Vice-Chancellor signature!
- We are regarded as
one of the best universities in Malaysia (SETARA, 09) and consistently highly regarded by several rankings in UK. Of course, we also perform well on international rankings, ranking in top 100 for QS ranking and ARWU Ranking.
- A lot of
our courses are accredited not only by professional bodies in Malaysia, but also those from UK.
- Get a chance to
study in the UK and China but pay the local fee here. We get the chance to be exchanged to our sister campuses but remain paying the same amount of what we pay here. That means, you have the chance to pay about RM30,000 p.a. instead of 13,000GBP for studies in UK. You get a chance to experience studies and cultures of China, yet at the same time extends your business networks in the fast-growing nation of China. Duration of exchange programme varies from one semester to one year, depending on the offering schools in UK/China.
Link- We offer a
wide range of courses, from Engineering to Economics, Psychology to Pharmacy, Management to MBA and more!
- One of the
nicest campuses (I say la..) in Malaysia, being green, spacious, tranquil and the ornamental ducks on our lake!
-
Awesome facilities - Computers equipped with Windows 7 with lots of specialised softwares (Pro|E, AutoCAD, MATLAB, HYSYS etc.) and personally, I have yet to kena a virus after plugging and unplugging my pendrive so many times! And hey, did I tell you about a huge building dedicated solely to researches?
Academics - Courses offered (may contain outdated info, most information is correct at the time of building this first post)

High Achievers Scholarship gives you 25% discount on tuition fee for any incoming students that meet their academic requirement (AAA for A-Level, other Pre-U, check link). This scholarship is only available for your 1st year. Check out the Dean's Excellence Scholarship (below) for scholarships as returning students. This scholarship, as far as I know, is automatic - you get it if you are qualified for it.
Dean's Excellence Scholarships are offered to students who finish in the top 10% of their respective cohorts. Scholars receive a 25% reduction towards their tuition fee. Great thing about this is that if you enter without High Achievers but manage to finish in top 10%, you can get this. Bad thing is if you come in with High Achievers but fail to secure yourself in top 10%, you will have to pay fees in full amount.
If you happen to have family members who were once studied or are currently studying in the University of Nottingham (UK, China, Malaysia), you may be eligible for the
Alumni scholarship.
You are in luck if you hold UEC. There is this very valuable
Chinese Independent Schools (UEC) Scholarship exclusive to UEC holders.
Sin Chew Education Fund and
The Star Education Fund are also giving out full scholarships but are highly competitive and are only open for certain periods. Be sure to check those out often.
There are also some other financial assistance which you may want to check out. Head to the master link for
scholarships and financial assistance to check them out yourself.

Sorry, just came back from perhentian a couple of days ago. I'll give you what I've written so far....so everything is still TBC.
*Writes behind facade of anonymity*
Accommodation ReviewPriceIn short, don't expect the prices any rooms here to be anywhere near financially kind. Renting a room, whether on campus or anywhere within the vicinity of the campus is AS costly as those you can scour in KL and Peejay, and be adequately warned that the level of comfort you expect to derive from these rooms may not correspond to the amount of rental you fork out.

The general rule of thumb is the farther away, the cheaper, so those who have their personal modes of transportation may wanna check out potential rooms or houses not too near to the university.
But since I am staying on campus, I can't really speak for those who live outside since I lack credibility.
Prices range from 350 to 600 plus on campus, in which your choice of whether to you'd like to have an en suite bathroom/A/C (or both) in your room or not will be duly incorporated into your rental. However, if you opt for an A/C, bear in mind that they charge you separately the electricity costs you incur during its usage. A single shared bathroom unit off campus (but under that of the PK and PC, which also brings us to the fact that accommodation here is privatized) is about RM 30 more a ripoff than its similar counterpart on campus.
One way of looking at this is that all the cruel holes the rental burns in your fee raped pocket, convenience and safety compensates on campus residents somewhat, and the importance of this privilege is arguably only felt when students are forced to move out a year later. So its not that bad, really! Expensive rental notwithstanding, living within walking proximity of certain facilities (depending on where your priorities lie, ie, the library and the 24 hour study rooms for me) may be a major strategic interest to nightowls and late risers who are never bright and early for the daily races.
So basically, while the price may appear unreasonable to some, the location does levy its share of benefits.
And oh yeah, they are quite particular with punctuality; they expect you to indemnify administrative delays so make sure you surrender your cash on time! Hahahaha!

And oh yeah, the accommodation offices expect you, with reasonable integrity (

), to declare all personal electrical appliances such as electric kettles, mini bars, portable stand fans, rice cookers, toasters and whatnot so that they can charge you accordingly! And these rates are really not light.
They can only charge you if you declare lol. To stop them from milking your money, you have the option not to declare, which is a crime that many of us here knowingly commit. (In Pangkor and Kapas halls la)
Next is Environment...(underway)

BEng vs MEng (by tanjinjack)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Not again. Never mind, I am here to explain. (Hopefully V4 is coming soon, and please, get this question to the first page!)
BEng and MEng are both undergraduate degree, meaning your first degree after your Pre-U.
The difference between BEng and MEng, other than the year it spends, is the possibility of getting accredited.
Today, to become a professional engineer (bearing the title Ir. or CEng or PEng depending on where you get accredited), you must study for 4 years during your tertiary studies. If you do not possess a 4-year degree, you will have to continue further study, or sit for their exams, so that you are qualified to work towards of becoming a professional engineer.
A little bit of history. BEng is always a 3-year course in UK education, as compared to 4 years in other countries. This is because UK education is rather concentrated, studying the core elements and do not waste time on the unrelated contents. Due to this nature, they are able to concentrate the course into 3 years. But the problem comes when everyone else in the world says, they will only accredit those degrees which are only of 4 years in length. To counter that, UK decides to come up with a 4-year MEng, instead of elongating their BEng into 4 years. The extra year, essentially teaches you more stuff, and also prepares you better to join the industry.
You may now wonder then, is our MEng the same as those Aus BEng? The answer is, NO, except when it comes to getting accreditation. A quick proof would be comparing the course structure side by side. You will find that, while Aus students still study Physics and Chemistry in their first semester/year, UK is already delivering the core contents of the respective course. For instance, for Mechanical, instead of just studying Physics, you already start off with Thermofluids and Solid Mechanics. Why? Because A-Level delivers more contents than SAM/AUSMAT/HSC, so they can just start with more advanced topics already.
Regarding further study, you may be surprised that, even a 3-year BEng could earn you a PhD seat in a UK university. This holds true within UK but not so true to the rest of world. Often the time, a lot of universities will clarify that a 4-year degree is required before one can start his/her Master/PhD, so a mere 3-year BEng will simply be insufficient to apply successfully. Harvard, for instance, actually states that one needs to do 6 years before they can start a PhD there. The specification of 6-years, means that even if you are a Master, you do not yet have the qualification to do it.
As for why you need accreditation, it really depends. If you are from Civil, go and get your MEng and practise in getting the Ir. title. It's vital for the Civil sector. As for the other main streams (Mech, Chem, EE), it is not that important in Malaysia. This is because, Boards of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) has yet to be so strict on the accreditation stuff that only accredited engineers can do the jobs. Intel hires BEng, for example. And with such phenomena happening, it makes the BEng a great course to sell, as it still promises jobs (as long as you get a good class) while it comes cheaper and faster than others. The drawback is the not-so-important (for now) accreditation thingy in Malaysia. Oh, one more thing, it is not uncommon to do the route of BEng, followed by a more specialised MSc (Master of Science, a postgraduate degree in UK). For instance, a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and later a MSc in Aerodynamics.
Of course, I may be biased, although I try to be as neutral as possible by supplying evidence for my claim.
Pin this. If we can't pin it into the V3 one, do it on the V4!!

We need your attention that this is a new policy that upon releasing the offer letter, you are to pay RM1,000 upfront which will be offset to your 1st year tuition fee. This is done so probably to prevent people FFK after getting the offer letter but don't want to come.
