According to my test at Miri Airport, Krokop and Lutong, there is no digital TV signal from MYTV.
Can receive Brunei digital TV at Lutong just fine.

Ohhh... Then something wrong somewhere...
Did you know the distance (roughly) from your receiving location (home) to the nearest tower?

And have you tried outdoor antenna?

Of course outdoor antena, aimed correctly too.

Transmitter at Lambir Hill, exact coordinate is 4.213889°, 114.046667° . Be aware Mytv coordinate at its official map is off by few km....

Distance from transmitter to :
Miri Airport area, roughly 12.5km
Krokop area, 23.47km
Lutong area, 29km

No signal. No idea why MYTV claims the transmitter already active. whistling.gif

That's very near. Indoor antenna should be good enough already. Did you tried indoor antenna? You try first.

Did you use any signal boosters for your outdoor antenna? If yes, you may need to remove that booster. Signal boosters are not needed for receiving digital TV as it will cause signal overload (receive too much signal), resulting in No Signal. For most cases to receive digital TV, signal boosters should not be used unless you're desperate situations, such as the cable from TV to antenna is too long/old, or the transmitter is few hundreds of kilometres away. That one is worst case scenario.

Since you said, you can only receive Brunei digital TV channels, it could mean that your outdoor antenna may be receiving overload signal for Malaysia digital TV, so the channel won't be detected at all.

But still, I suggest you try for indoor antenna first. If still can't, remove boosters from outdoor antenna if you're using it. I mean, literally remove both outdoor and indoor booster from the antenna (if you're using it), not just power it off.

I understand that MYTV may provide inaccurate info, but you can try to troubleshoot some few steps first, cuz after all they're still expanding their coverage, especially those "Blind spots" from main transmitters areas.

I ran the tuning test last Sunday.

Indoor non-amplified connected to usb dvb-t2 at laptop on those 3 locations = no signal detected

Boosters are removable on three outdoor antennas (boosters are not located at roof antennas) = still no signal detected

Probably Lambir transmitter is either down, non operational in first place or it is broadcasting at extreme low power 1KW instead of 5KW......kinda unlikely since Miri Airport is very near to the Lambir transmitter.

Goes to show that there is no communication between the customer service and the people deploying the transmitter. CS person see the map, got tower, straightaway say got coverage.

Hmm... Then your location might be under the "blind spot" from the main transmitters, but they will install more signal gap filters in near future, just before analogue TV switch off by end of June 2018.

Better you inform directly to MYTV about this.

By the way, can you receive all analogue TV channels anyway?
And, I thought a lot of Sarawakians tends to watch TV using parabolic satellite dishes (C band) instead?

John, you should try using amplified antenna. I still get no signal without boosted indoor antenna. Manual scan CH 47 (682). Thats the only one working in Kuching now.

Impossible for 3 different locations to fall under blind spot.
Analogue TV channels = no issue.

Parabolic satellite dishes (C band)....of course we do brows.gif

Tried both amplified and non-amplified, same result = no signal.

If like that, inform MYTV about it, or just wait lo... Can't do much for now...

And if I were you, I rather watch foreign TV channels using parabolic satellite dishes (C band) or small dish (Ku band).
Local FTA broadcasters like RTM and Media Prima, is simply unreliable to me when it comes to content.

I suspect that poor quality on Media Prima channels might be due to some interlacing issues. They might send channels in 720p or 1080p (which is flagged correctly when on transmission) but when on transmission (which the signal is downconverted into 576i), such interlacing effects will appear. Since the picture quality when they broadcast 16:9/HD TV content is good, I suspect the artifacts was generated on transmission.

While it is now October 2017, no news for RTM channels in HD.

They send in 1080 but is being downconverted as you mentioned.
It all because currently MyTV is asking 10 mil per year per channel.

What outdoor antenna did you get - mind sharing a photo? Point the antenna towards Gunung Ulu Kali (Genting Highlands).

Around 2.5 Mbps for a HD 1080i channel, encoded in H.264!!! I borrowed a set top box from my relative to try record something (which the family is on holiday) and found such shocking bitrates, not to mention 32kbps HE-AAC V2 Stereo which Josh had been mentioned in the past. The picture quality is not good at all with frequent blocky images due to low bitrate used. (FYI, TV Alhijrah channel over myFreeview broadcasts in 6.x Mbps, which looks slightly better due to higher bitrates but it is still bad, and other SD channels use similar bitrates as "Test Channel HD")

Shocking poor HD quality pictures may become a reality in the future for DTT, especially for Media Prima (which they consider the bandwidth pricing charged by MYTV as hefty).
