Sols, i didn't know that you have such different views of our captain from most Reds fans. Interesting.. Of course, we would look stupid to turn down a huge bid for our captain.. No player is bigger than the club..

However, IMO, he may not be playing every match for us, he may not had a good 2010/11 (I blame the groin). But when he hit the right form, it's not his skills or killer passes that impresses, it's his determination and influence among his teammates. It's going to be difficult to find a better captain..

And his groin is feeling better than ever!

well said, stevie is great for his determination, hardwork and great will to move the team. another player is always dirk kuyt who works hard for team. to me, signing which player doesnt matter at all, what matters the most is the DETERMINATION to improve and WORKHARD for the team, of course having the heart to do so for the CLUB AND FANS.

Really good place for our young talents to develop and gain experience but also good place for talent scouts to be on the look-out..

This guy can play on right wings as well, have a decent pace and comfortable with his right foot.I believe Carroll will be very happy if we sign this guy .

I used to monitor him 2 seasons back cause I thought he's the kind player that we needed then. I have to admit that I'm not that excited that we are linked to him now. Given that out financial situation and purchasing power have improved I expect us to go for a more quality player.

But one think I'm sure he'll bring into the team (if we sign him) is maturity and experience.

I agree with Sols.
Gerrard has been out of form lately. Enough with that BS form is temporary class is yadayadayada.

We all recognise him as fantastic player. But honestly, with due respect to Gerrard and all the players for that matter, 40-50 million is much more fantastic. This doesnt apply only the Gerrard, more like the whole league.

Not that I dont appreciate what Gerrard did for the club. What i wanna emphasize on is that he is not irreplaceable.

If you ask me, I would actually prefer Carra to be the captain any day. I have seen too many times that Gerrard just walked away when his teammates were involved with on pitch argument with official. Normally, it was Alonso or Carra that helped them out. It was until last season, after Kenny took over that Gerrard starting to protect his teammates. Seen that when he stood up and screw a Portuguese player crying for barbie doll when that Portuguese player tried to get Carra sent off. And it's not surprising he was trying to protect Carra because they came thru the rank together but will he do the same for others? That, I wonder.

Taking high wage, sitting in treatment room for long time certainly wont do us any good. Let's see what it takes this coming season. Will he be spending his time in treatment room or on the pitch?

No one is denying he is one of the best. I actually think that most of us see him as one of the best footballers around. All I m pointing out is that he is not irreplaceable and I questioned his role as a captain. See my reply to kewellrulez.

If it were based purely on sentiment, no. However making decisions based on sentiment alone isn't productive. If there were a huge offer, I'd say we need to take it seriously. The team has proven they can play without Gerrard. Now I know many started supporting Liverpool towards the late 90's/early 00's and to you, he must be Mr. Liverpool. However do note that before him, we felt the same way about players like Fowler, Rush and Dalglish. All good things come to an end. Were we not gutted when Fowler mk.1 was sold? My point is that at some point we have to move on. Do I want to push Gerrard out the door? Of course not. He's still one of the best midfielders around but given his age, we'd be foolish not to at least consider a sizable bid.

If u ask me,i felt mr liverpool would have been michael owen. But i didnt feel that sad when he left because i knew for strikers there would always be a replacement.

Fowler left, owen stepped up,owen left torres came in some time after.now its suarez.

But midfielders are not like that.Barnes left, who actually was a an adequate replacement?alonso masc left who exactly are their like to like replacement?

Even a club like man city which has no limit to spending doesnt want to lose their best player in tevez.

Players come to this club for the lure of playing alongside world class players like gerrard and suarez.

I wont say lucas, spearing or henderson coz they have much to prove at this stage and are not proven winners.

If we lose our best player then what statement does the club intend to send to the players out there.

It will be a push factor for players who we are targetting. It's already hard enough without champions league.

Selling him will unsettle senior players like carra, reina, johnson and the loyal home fans will be furious.

Let me ask u a question, if city meets messi's buy out clause,do you think barca will sell?

You must be kidding me. Owen=Mr. Liverpool? He never even endeared himself to the majority of Reds. He's not exactly popular even during in his prime years with us. Unlike Fowler who can be termed that.

As for Gerrard issue, lets just say there's 2 school of thought. Lets just agree to disagree as there'll endless arguments from both side. Though it'll be more interesting if we state out the reasons.

BTW if City meets Messi buyout clause, Barca are powerless & have no choice but to accept since the price is met. Its a matter of whether Messi wanna go there. Else how on earth would Barca sold Figo to RM, their bitterest of a rival wink.gif

Messi wouldnt leave. The same can be said of gerrard.Kenny wants gerrard to stay and i trust him over anyone else.End of argument sweat.gif

I said mr liverpool of that time not now.just like how people started supporting liverpool because of torres the same was with owen back then.

Fowler scored much more goals than owen but how many trophies did he help us to win compared to owen.I m not questioning his legend status

as i like him too but i think owen did more for the team.Fowler had mcmanaman collymore and barnes supporting him while owen had heskey murphy

and young gerrard. It's just owen destroyed his own status when he joined real madrid and later man utd.Nowadays football is about results and measured by

how many trophies you win and not how many people like you.End of the day it's all my opinion and i agree with your agree to disagree smile.gif

+1

Carra is more steel-blooded than Stevie. Honestly he's a better leader than our current captain.

Why are you guys sounding like Gerrard chose to get injured? A player never wanted to be injured.. They want to be on the pitch for as long as possible. Right, he still get paid all the same, but that's not the Gerrard that we know of. He wanted to win for the team. Remember his expression when Rafa sub out Torres when we were chasing a game 2 season ago?

To me, both Gerrard and Carra are equally as passionate about the club as you can get. Don't let SG injuries mask his contributions to the club.

It's easy for everyone of us to say that he is irreplaceble because we're not the one training at Melwood day in, day out; we're not the one sharing the changing room; we're not the one playing on the pitch. What would the morale be like if he did indeed left? How would Carra feel? How did Reina felt when Torres left?

Not a good way to start a season (just like when Mascherano left us after Man City game).

Never said about the injuries. Even when he's on the pitch. His exact expression when Torres was sub-ed is definately NOT how a captain should be like.
Its just that I begin to realise now that we're playing average with Gerrard, average without.
If they are real players true to the club not captain or player, they would feel the exact same way anyone else leaves the club. We will move on eventually.

Anyway, this is just hypothetically. Dont take it too seriously. I mean its almost guranteed unless something happens that Gerrard will be there next season 100% fit. Hopefully. laugh.gif
