I am seriously considering using a VPN already. I am sure they will soon "upgrade their filtering". It seems VPN is the only way to bypass it.

It is combating act of piracy not internet censorship. Read it. A censorship is done on something legal, this is done based on something illegal.

The problem is, is it the correct way of combating piracy? They're choosing the HARDEST way to combat piracy; through internet while physical piracy still runs rampat at most pasar malam, roadside and even shopping malls. In the end, its probably TMNet not happy most of it user are hogging all the bandwidth with pirated materials.

It is not an act against piracy. There is nothing illegal about filehosting sites. Get your facts right. All these sites are 100% against piracy files and they stand firm on their rules. They also provide convenient ways to remove the files if any organization wants the files removed.

THIS... is what we call "act against piracy"

if he does it again, agents will be knocking his door, he will be fined/jailed or both.

but then, if malaysia is to enforce this... jail not enough... haih... laugh.gif

Combating piracy? Lol. Whether this is combating piracy or not, blocking websites is THE WRONG way to do it. It is a stupid and ineffective way to combat piracy.

A lot of the websites aren't even piracy specific. They're online lockers for online storage.

The sad fact is that our government have been doing this for 3 - 4 years. I fear for the future as we move down this slippery slope of censorship. I really do.

Ya transferring big files is a real problem unless use bittorrent which is throttled or file locker which is blocked which leaves us with nothing. Damn e-mail cannot send or hold or resume large uploads.

You really think tmnet don't know about it? Their engineers knows about it and they know its common knowledge. Any network engineer who doesn't know how DNS works needs to burn their certificate and kill themself.

TMnet knows, they know we know, they have their own reason why they choose to use this method.

We have to keep in mind that unless they cut off the internet entirely, there is no 100% method to block any website. There are many free VPN out there for browsing even if they really want to block something. They know its a waste of time and money. Maybe TMnet just wants to shut SKMM's mouth. SKMM cannot complain its ineffective because there is NO method that can be 100% effective.

Your good friend went and used torrent to download that's the reason she/he violated the law.

In torrent sessions, your PC will be actively uploading the file at the same time it downloads into your hdd.

This should not be brought up and compared with file hosting solutions which you should not categorize as P2P at all.

They won't be following China. There're better role models to follow.

Iran, Saudi Arabia, Eqypt and UAE are deemed more ideal examples for them.

we are already living in a (way way) below optimal internet country, I'd rather place my vote for new hope rather than voting the proven-to-be-rotten gomen.

last time have a person tell me this:

no matter who become government, nothing going to change. because the government staff remain the same. poor working quality remain poor.
