Today, 30/05/2011 @ 7pm, I started my pc as usual, turned on my wifi (streamyx combo 1mbps), tried to download a file from megaupload but the page doesn't exist? Tried fileserve to download the same file and went to a blank page as well. I got nervous. I know TM has begun to block many websites this year especially the p**n sites, but will they block hosting sites as well?? To confirm my fear, I used a proxy server and went to megaupload and fileserve. Guess what? I can access them no problem. But the proxy i used won't let me download anything. WTH streamyx???? WTH TM???? How about u guys, did any of u tried megaupload or any hosting site today? So far mediafire, netload still accessible. But for how long???

Edit: Just learned about public dns. Change dns on the router using any of the settings below and abuse your bandwidth again!!!

Free Public DNS Server

=> Service provider: Google
Google public dns server IP address:

* 8.8.8.8
* 8.8.4.4

=> Service provider:Dnsadvantage
Dnsadvantage free dns server list:

* 156.154.70.1
* 156.154.71.1

=> Service provider:OpenDNS
OpenDNS free dns server list / IP address:

* 208.67.222.222
* 208.67.220.220

=> Service provider:Norton
Norton free dns server list / IP address:

* 198.153.192.1
* 198.153.194.1

=> Service provider: GTEI DNS (now Verizon)
Public Name server IP address:

* 4.2.2.1
* 4.2.2.2
* 4.2.2.3
* 4.2.2.4
* 4.2.2.5
* 4.2.2.6

=> Service provider: ScrubIt
Public dns server address:

* 67.138.54.100
* 207.225.209.66

Tips by Rei7

Just unblock it with this method.

1- go to Network and sharing center
2- then click Change adapter settings (located on left side)
3- right click on your preferred connection (mine is wireless) then select properties.
4- Select "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" then click properties.
5- select "use the following DNS server addresses"
6- enter "8.8.8.8" as the preferred and "8.8.4.4" as the Alternate.
7- restart the connection and enjoy smile.gif
8- done!

TMNet wont be blocking them for long. Probably will unblock it soon. Otherwise I'm sure they're going to get some unwanted heat.

Changing DNS works?

That would mean they did not actually block it, but only "deleted" it from their DNS servers. How does that work?

I fear if everybody knows how to use public dns, and the internet traffic increases these companies will put permanent block to hosting sites. Way to go Malaysia!!!

Looks like P1 clamps down on download sites when they undergo maintenance. Look at their announcements:
http://www.p1.com.my/highlights/highlights...ouncements.aspx

Hopefully it'll be normal in the morning.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting TM. Firstly, we would like to apologise for the late response.

Referring to your e-mail dated 30th May 2011 on Megaupload/Fileserve issue, please be informed that we not block any direct download software. We only do some blocking to P2P software only.

Please be advise to contact the direct download software provider and if they claim that was Internet service provider issue, please forward the e-mail to us and provide also the ping plotter test of the connection to us.

For further assistance or feedback, kindly e-mail us at help@tm.com.my .
Alternatively, you can also contact TM at 100, choose language and select "Report Service Fault" and choose ?Home Services?.

Use public DNS doesn't give you high speed, they give you more IP addresses for your requested domain name. Streamyx DNS may have megaupload, fileserve deleted from their directory.

It's like having a road with illegal racing and rempit activities on it but it gives good access to strategic areas in the city for everyone's convenience to cut travelling distance.

Would you cut off the road and disregard the convenience that others are enjoying?

Then you have opportunists who have inside authority who takes advantage of it by setting up toll booths at both ends of the road to start charging toll rates if you want to continue enjoying the shortcut route.

Before I answer ur questions, take a look on what's happening since last year..

1. Petrol price went up from 1.80 to 1.90 (Government say they won't increase the price for the time being because they are earning much other sources below)
2. RM50 annual tax imposed for every credit card (different from annual fee charged by bank)
3. 6% tax on for paid television service (astro)
4. BISP allowance for teachers abolished.
5. Water and electricity price rate increase.

Can u see the trend here? This "caring" government is trying to milk us dry slowly. All these increases and taxes are directly affecting us, the people, right now and we are feeling the heat. I don't know if PR is going to supply us with better internet, but we need to feel a CHANGE. Let the government change or we change the government. Choose wisely..

BTW p1 wimax already blocked all stated sites. Can't enter the sites at all (straight away error).

But changing DNS works.

thank god the public DNS works. for now i'm downloading mostly from megaupload and mediafire. rapidshare for night-shift download, since got waiting time. not much from fileserve and filesonic since annoyed from captcha. yeah, gov should just let the file hosting deal with the copyright. no need to block those sites la. not everyone here downloading illegal stuff only. just because you know the only illegal stuff is movies which is mostly 700mb++ size, you block? save bandwidth for what? facebook?

please, don't ever ever ever block w-bb sad.gif

Just few days after the UN announced that internet access is the new Human Rights, the government decided to block some websites off Malaysian's access. The irony.

*
We are in an online forum talking about internet and you bring politics up.
Fine. You said you don;t know if PR will give us a better internet service, but do you know if they're not going to increase the prices of all the things that BN increased that you mentioned above? Im really curious....

Have you ever lived overseas before?
Or gone on holidays.
Again, it's not for personal attack, just to know if you have ever encountered the challenges faced by people of other countries.

To me, this skmm actions has several advantages and disadvantages. But in overall, it give more drawbacks. I expect most of youth will turn more angry toward gomen and has brighten pr plan to defeat bn in GE13. I think there are better way to do this but most of all people never like their internet being filtered even for me. I hope Malaysia don't become like china which has its own great firewall. AND this blocking really make people become more clever at hacking the filtering system. For me, even if the filtering is very tight, as google and google application engine did not get blocked I still can bypass it. cool2.gif

Does this answer your questions?? Yes we are more fortunate if compared to say, bangladesh or zimbabwe. But how do we stand if compared to korea, australia or even singapore? We are not 3rd world country anymore. U can't say yourself fortunate having a nasi lemak in a stall while others are having a banquet in hotels. U know what i'm saying bro? Unlike in japan, us, singapore etc we pay much more for slower internet. Now the slow and limited internet is going to even more limited by blockage. Malaysian people are already suffering from inflation while there's virtually no growth in per capita income, then the GOVERNMENT impose more TAXES and lowers subsidy. I'm a government servant, but even I can't understand what they're doing. Think buddy, think...

Yes . If we compare broadband prices, yes, we are over paying like hell in Msia.
But someone brought other stuffs that has nothing to do with internet up as well.
These;

I've lived in 3 other developed countries before, 2 of them were mentioned by you.
yes, broadband is more affordable if you earn in their currency but not for those other things listed by him.

Furthermore, he seems to be so confident that PR won't increase the things that are being increased by the current gov't.
So far, I didn't hear the opposition claiming that they wouldn't increase this and that if they were running the show.
Even if they did, it is easier said than done with the current prices of oil going up and up.
Everywhere in the world prices are going up. WHat makes them think that we can maintain current prices?

Anyways, I am totally against this ban.
Who is the gov't trying to suck up to?
There are other things that are more important to be done...

Yeap, those things have nothing to do with the internet (maybe), but they have everything to do with the GOVERNMENT. And the GOVERNMENT is the one who impose the blockage. But to think of it, why would u find taxes and inflation irrelevant to the internet service? We pay more for less petrol, pay more for less water and electricity, pay more for less service, pay more for less Internet. Geddit bub??? And why should u trust the government anymore when the PM himself said they won't censor the Internet then this happen? This statement wasn't speculated by harakah or suara keadilan etc but from Najib himself. Who knows what promise would he be breaking in the future. I'm not siding to BN or PR but we need CHANGE my friend. This internet thing is just the tip of the iceberg. Lastly, everyone here know u r referring to my statement so just give up the act. Unlike u, my love is for my country not for the government..

Yup, maybe off topic. But I'm just pissed up @ someone in denial.. Back on topic, for those who find their speed getting slower u can try VPN to surf anonymously. I'm suspecting TM is throttling downloads from those 10 sites even if it's still accessible through public DNS. For example a download from megaupload will start with max speed but it will get slower over time.

Oh I really didn't know that it was you.
Cause the comment was a few pages back so we can't see it below our screen when we are typing a new msg.

Yes. I find the points that you brought up irrelevant. We are talking about internet here and you're talking about allowances for teachers and astro etc.
You're right that it has to do with the govt but this is a topic about the internet.

You still have to tell me if the PR said anything about those points that you pointed out. Did they say that they wouldn't increase them if they were running hte show? DId they say that they will reduce the price of this and that. If tehy did, how? I'm pretty sure that they would have to take such measures as well.

I dont trust Najib, BN, PR. No one. Thats why I dont vote. All bunch of liars.
So just because the leader of BN broke his promise not to censor the internet, therefore we should not vote for them anymore?
Has no one from the PR ever broken their promise?
They're all a bucnh of liars Im telling you.

Yup I remember Najib saying that and I really don't mind them blocking pornographic websites. But truth to be told, we all know what we use RS, warez for hehe. I just dont understand, why all of sudden?? Did they just find out about those services or what?

Is there any way for us to get around this?

PS. It's weird. I still can DL from FS and still visit warez. Good thing. But both of them are slow.

Yes . If we compare broadband prices, yes, we are over paying like hell in Msia.
But someone brought other stuffs that has nothing to do with internet up as well.
These;

*
Easy, we are the oil producer. That's the difference between Singapore and us. Oil is almost never an issue in Singapore when public transport is more convenient than driving own car. In fact we have everything yet we suffer.

Since you are not a voter, maybe you should stay silence. You are coward to take action.

this is a bad omen for things to come. If they can just suddenly ban sites like these, further down the line, its a precedent to ban non-pro governmental websites.

They will use it to serve their agenda.

Free internet my ass; we should write to all these computer manufacturers based in maalysia and tell them how internet freedom is eroding. Perhaps with their political influence they can talk some sense into this despotic government.

For anyone who wants to a free VPN, try "Tor" (google it).

It's a good thing they haven't gone around blocking Funshion (风行) yet. Or people in my town who love their instant movies (usually 300MB/400MB per file, totally streamable at our crappy rate) would cry their eyes out and revert to PPShit.

It's not like opposition can do anything drastic and turn things around. Look at disunity going on in PR today.
You vote the crony, it's going to continue. You vote the opposition it'll be beyond salvageable.

Either way it's sinking.

Take Perak for example. There's this selfish Fuzhou(trishaw) clan inside DAP who wants to rule and control everything.How can there be any unity when even among the Chinese they can't get along with each other?

I have seen alot people keep talking about taking BN down, but it is nearly impossible if najib are paying those voters and I don't really think most of them are registered as a voters. You know, people are greedy about the close benefit but never think of long benefit. Hopefully if Anwar win the next GE, he can revert back the Economic and Internet policy to old style. blush.gif

I'm using streamyx 2mb package. I am wondering why is everyone saying it is blocked?
I currently downloading stuff from megaupload.com and it is running fine for me.
They never block any sites at my end. Except for porn site which I'm aware of. But not from p2p or file sharing site.

That's right!
Even the US is not banning the sites as long as they comply with the law to bring down the copyrighted files which they do all the time.
So what has got our Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi & Kepenggunaan's knickers in a twist?

why internet proposal under menteri penerangan komunikasi dan kebudayaan (kpkk)? why not under the ministry of energy,telecomunication and water(ktak)anymore? look like gomen jaga syarikat korporat more then jaga pengguna like now do subsidy cutting. vote are on our hand. see how long u can still sit at that office again.

This is the way we should cautiously post on forums because often at times we're responsible for our words. Take it as you're drafting an email to your boss but it's openly send to a list of recipients.

The risk is just as high as blogging.In fact it's has higher participation and the board is actively observed unlike personal blogs which you have authority over its moderation.

But if they block even a premium account can do nothing. lol

I guess it only blocks on some areas.

If they expect the demand for bandwidth never growth, they might as well closed their business icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

And punish the people who uses it legally? Hell no. DMCA does not work like that, it's much more lenient, and yet strong. Why Malaysia can't do something like that?

Incompetent.

Even the US is not banning the sites as long as they comply with the law to bring down the copyrighted files which they do all the time.
So what has got our Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi & Kepenggunaan's knickers in a twist?

Because of lobbying.

Sometimes streaming Youtube also slow, what for if we use our internet just for surfing internet browsing page like Google? Facebook? Just send a lawyer letter to the person who illegal downloaded material from internet, suppose this is the news came out long time ago. Since they said high network traffic on illegal stuff.

Please complain to the organization which is more powerful then Streamyx, NTV7 got show it last time but i forgot which organization. But I think it is still useless doin such thing in stupid country.

This is the way we should cautiously post on forums because often at times we're responsible for our words. Take it as you're drafting an email to your boss but it's openly send to a list of recipients.

The risk is just as high as blogging.In fact it's has higher participation and the board is actively observed unlike personal blogs which you have authority over its moderation.

i agreed with you.. what the point for ISP to provides 10MB, 15MB or even 25MB if they doesn't allow us to download stuffs from internet. Keep the internet connection below 4MB and more than enough for daily use and screw all the unify or fiber package available in the market.

Why can't the govt just think of, increasing downloads of prawns may reduce crime rate (rapist)... sometimes got pros and cons ...
whether pros > cons or pros < cons

Just like govt know that ciggy is bad for the rakyats but govt still allow tobacco company to operate because the tax from tobacco company is astonishing
so for govt, pros > cons ....

Savings from blocking file sharing websites as reported in The Star Online business section

Biz article

What is particularly interesting is this paragraph:-

QUOTE
While ISPs could potentially stand to save more from paying high international gateway, an analyst said if the number of requests for overseas content was lower, there would not be any economies of scale resulting in service providers paying higher prices for international gateway.

So far I can access even from office. At home I have been using Open DNS ever since I found out I can do that. If you want a real test try www.gutteruncensored.com that site is NFSW but is forever blocked if you don't alter the DNS settings. That I think must be our government's no. 1 must block site.

Again it's proven that Lowyat.Net has been actively monitored by cybertroopers for some time already since it's been known to be one of Malaysia's most popular discussion forum to gather the citizens thoughts.

This will alert the public to be more cautious, refrain from posting unnecessary and beware that what you write here will be made known very easily to prying eyes.

In just 2 days this conversation was made and today's press statement appeared in The Star Nation's section:

QUOTE

Umno Cybertroopers Told to Act

BENTONG: Umno’s cybertroopers must play an active role to counter issues played up by the online media.

Party vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the new media had put a negative spin on many issues causing the public to receive wrong information.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said what was more worrying to Umno was fencesitters who were not members of any political party as they could be influenced by wrong information provided by the online media.

“There has been a hate culture propagated by irresponsible groups against Umno.

“This hatred of Umno has influenced the people, so we need to do something drastic to regain their support,” Ahmad Zahid said after opening the Bentong Umno division delegates meeting here yesterday.

Also present was the division’s chief and Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.

Ahmad Zahid said the pro-Umno cybertroopers had to create something that could attract the masses.

“The information we put out is mainly limited to Umno members and does not reach fencesitters and other members of the public.

“This puts us at a disadvantage,” he said.

He added that Umno should not ignore fencesitters who could make a difference in an election.

Anything that they dislike they consider it as "wrong information".It's like Kim Jong Il telling his people that watching western media not filtered by the Government is a serious crime.

Also the new term "fencesitters" was brought up.

Let me tell you who their "fencesitters" are. The are most likely their odd party members who are willing to betray them at every opportunity and if observed carefully are good shoe polishers. Those are the real fencesitters.

As for the observer, its best way to see how scenes unfoldsbefore they shape.

I'm now considering adding forum.lowyat.net in my 127.0.0.0 list.

It's not just a DNS block. On a TMNet connection, you can connect to sites on the blacklist but expect connections to time out very quickly.

For what I am seeing so far while reading this thread (hundred's of post). It seem that most user still can make it into file sharing / hosting site easily. Doesn't matter it's TM (Streamyx / unifi) or any other ISP like P1, users could easily bypass using public DNS. It seem too easy. Like ISP just wanted to comply with SKMM order and not fully block those file sharing / hosting site. I guess it does worry ISP that if they fully block those file sharing / hosting site which use by thousand of their current users will impact their business either now or in the future (long run on high speed network like unifi). And they (ISP) would also need to consider competition like example if say P1 fully blocked those site from its users and there is no way to bypass the block, P1 users would definitely consider changing to other provider where there is still a way to bypass.

For ISP I personally think that they are not stupid. They have lot of professional people working for them. And they definitely know that how's the file sharing / hosting website works and the illegal material was not provided by the file sharing / hosting site but was posted and share by users who are using it.

Here also I put an example of legitimate users (user who are using file sharing / hosting site legally) as it seem no one here put any clear example. For content provider (users who post legal material) like Cubizone (famous online games provider in Malaysia) like to post their online games update either full installer or manual patch on file sharing / hosting site (they post it on lots of difference file sharing / hosting site) which I found very convenient. For downloader (gamers or me as a technician) could choose any file sharing / hosting site that I prefer or subscribed premium account and grab those file fast and easy.

Thanks for reading.

you can use the Software to
-Megaupload
-Filesonic

Dude, that ultrasurf really made it possible to download from Megaupload with full speed.

The matter of fact, although I was using Google DNS (8.8.8.8) all the while, Streamyx's recent change in blocking Megauploading didn't just stop with removing blocking it in their DNS. Instead they throttled the speed. Caused Megaupload downloads at 10 to 15KB only per second which I experienced for the last few days. This is so terrible. As the guy above suggested, I installed the Ultrasurf and I was able to get the full speed for the download again. Cool.

Bottom line; Google DNS + Ultrasurf = F*ck-off Streamyx icon_idea.gif

All website are blocked except piratebay. I tried, anyone else having the same problem?

I'm pissed due to the fact I use file sharing websites to store my work and my clients would download from there.

With this attempt to blog specific sites, even naive users who only knew torrents would have come to know about direct downloads.

They've really splash fire with oil.

Now that they know it's against human rights to block legal sites, the flame has already been enlarge. Expect even more subscriptions to file hosting sites from now and torrents getting reduced.

After reconnect , check whether can access the websites or check ur current DNS , it needs time to register to the Google DNS

Mine took 1 time reconnection , its either the DNS is hogging up right now or too much of ppl i guess

Make sure you clear the dns cache after changing the address

Go to cmdline, type in ipconfig /flushdns and press enter...

Should work after that...

I'm on 4mb blockbuster package

Have been downloading from http direct downloads at 400kb/s for over a year.

Now most of the services I use are blocked. The search engine I used to search for files is also blocked. Another http direct download site remains active but download speed has been halved to 200kb/s max!

Email them to complain? It's like writing to BN and appeal for lower petrol price ...

They don't care about intellectual property, otherwise pirated DVD stores would all be sapu. Running out of bandwidth is the real reason why this is happening.

See here.
If you use VPN, you get the following advantage :
a) Encrypted traffic.
b) Unblock restricted website
c) Full speed so you get what you are paying for because of a)
d) Secure when using Wifi in public are because of a)
e) Can unthrottle torrent because of a)*
*It depends on the provider see whether they allow p2p

as had discussed alot in this thread b4, they blocked this not for piracy, but for reducing bandwidth consumption. or else why'd they leave other porn-release blogs unblocked, but blocks only filehosts?

It's kinda pointless if they want to ban several hosting site with excuses like " those sites eating more bandwidth than what their cat eating in a week bullshit"
imo mostly the affected users of the hosting sites will change to the unaffected sites and making those site eating more bandwidth than usual
and they will ban those sites too?
If they want to ban, let they ban ALL of those hosting sites and don't make some bullshit excuses like "the traffic is very slow b/c of the hosting sites crap" vmad.gif

QUOTE
PETALING JAYA: The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) has called on the Government to ban another file-sharing site - jiwang.org.

It claimed that the site specialises in providing pirated Malaysian music recordings for illegal downloads.

RIM said the site also reaps lucrative advertising revenue from commercial organisations.

Last week, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) banned 10 file-sharing sites and called on local Internet service providers to block access to the sites.

RIM chairman Norman Abdul Halim lauded the Government's efforts to uphold copyright laws in cyberspace by taking action against the file-sharing sites.

The websites were among the most visited by Malaysians to illegally download movies.

He added that RIM had filed a complaint with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry about jiwang.org.

Norman said the ban was a good starting point against illegal downloads, although savvy Internet users could still circumvent any blocks.

Malaysia is the first country in South-East Asia to block file-sharing sites, he said.

Although Internet censorship was against the MSC Malaysia Bill of Guarantees, which states that the Government will not censor the Internet, it was illegal to download pirated songs and movies, he said.

what the hell, kalu nak block, block semua. ni main pilih2. yang dia guna x nak lak sugget utk diblock. Bayar balik duit aku guna utk lifetime megaupload

bulan lepas, gov kate xkan censor internet, cakap x serupa bikins.

aku pikir, camne la ex employer aku, company guna Megaupload as their backup server

This may sound silly but may i ask if i were to use the Google public DNS, will it effect my current privacy/security? (ie, online transaction for banks etc).

I was reading/google earlier and the general idea i had was this google dns is address resolver and does not have any security issue for online bankings. Am i right to say it's safe for online bankings etc?

Thanks for your advice.

Shouldnt be a problem, they dont store your info, DNS servers just contain domain names which then correlate to the IP addresses of those domain names.

You should be more vary of proxies wink.gif

maybe there are someone who's being order to 'act' made propaganda on hacking Malaysian gov web....who knows....

someone should post some letter to SKMM or gov directly. suggest them to...
- stop pc/laptop sells. 27mil ppl of malaysia will CERTAINLY dl malaysian artist song, KRU movie production..etc. Even if the block whole internet wont increase the selling of overpriced product. thumbup.gif
- stop any handphone selling. most of the moden handphone have 'recording', USB/bluetooth transfer & download ability. if want HP, make sure have CD/DVD player on it. it is 100000% CERTAIN that any mp3 ringtones available are NOT ORIGINALLY from CD/DVD(original). icon_idea.gif
- stop TV+receiver+player sells. later got ppl record live concert from TV. rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif
- shutdown TM, P1...or any ISP in Malaysia!!! this is the source of EVIL!!! drool.gif

*
That right bro, but not only astro service tax increase. But also celcom, hotlink, maxis, tune talk and I-talk service tax also will increase to 6% on 1 July 2011. Mean if u want to buy celcom RM5.00, u need to pay RM5.30.

Maybe you can try this program?

I have not tried it and gives no assurance on it's performance.

What's the point of blocking the sites but cannot improve on internet speed?

That's the whole point, they don't wanna improve so they block, reduce the end-consumer's usage of bandwidth. brows.gif Saw how fast P1 Wimax started blocking? If I am not mistaken they're the first to do it when they've gotten instructions to do so. biggrin.gif
