QUOTE(sg999 @ Jun 2 2011, 09:04 AM)
Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting TM. Firstly, we would like to apologise for the late response.

Referring to your e-mail dated 30th May 2011 on Megaupload/Fileserve issue, please be informed that we not block any direct download software. We only do some blocking to P2P software only.

Please be advise to contact the direct download software provider and if they claim that was Internet service provider issue, please forward the e-mail to us and provide also the ping plotter test of the connection to us.

For further assistance or feedback, kindly e-mail us at help@tm.com.my .
Alternatively, you can also contact TM at 100, choose language and select "Report Service Fault" and choose ?Home Services?.

VPN on Wikipedia
The first paragraph pretty much explains it all.

You can find the service offered here on these forums.

The letter addresses all ISP. This means sooner or later tm, maxis etc will all follow suit. I think the temporary blockage by TM previously was a test to see how users will react to it. Our PM really lied about supposed "internet freedom" exercised in Malaysia. The only solution is to bring them down in the next PRU. Who's with me??

Any new government will probably maintain this policy.

But then again, if they ban that kind of site compared to banning the file sharing web site, then I would prefer them doing so. I mean, It is down right illegal. But these file sharing web site is not. And yet they ban it.

So, which move makes more sense?
*
That's right!
Even the US is not banning the sites as long as they comply with the law to bring down the copyrighted files which they do all the time.
So what has got our Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi & Kepenggunaan's knickers in a twist?

This is the way we should cautiously post on forums because often at times we're responsible for our words. Take it as you're drafting an email to your boss but it's openly send to a list of recipients.

The risk is just as high as blogging. In fact it's has higher participation and the board is actively observed unlike personal blogs which you have authority over its moderation.

If they expect the demand for bandwidth never growth, they might as well closed their business  icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

They should expect their business don't growth too.

It all boils down to ISP's ringgit & sen.

Savings from blocking file sharing websites as reported in The Star Online business section

Biz article

What is particularly interesting is this paragraph:-

QUOTE
While ISPs could potentially stand to save more from paying high international gateway, an analyst said if the number of requests for overseas content was lower, there would not be any economies of scale resulting in service providers paying higher prices for international gateway.

I'm using maxis broadband, each time i set my dns to google's DNS and disconnect and connect back..
the previous setting for my google DNS dissapears??anybody knows why?

is it because maxis broadband connects automatically to its own DNS?
*
I think maybe your Maxis dialler program is reloading it's setting every time you reconnect.

Maybe you can try this program?

DNSJump

I have not tried it and gives no assurance on it's performance.
Use at your own risk!

Isn't TOR slow?

I tried some years back and it was excruciating!
And I was just loading static web pages.
