yes yes biggrin.gif haha ok.. what lens did you use for those?

haha yesterday at an event when the curtain was down i used my AF-assist and aimed it at the curtain to make my own spotlight xDDD

not sure isit the type u want.
but you can look at my photo, even though they are not great

http://www.flickr.com/photos/junkeatyong/s...57626616403047/

usually just shoot RAW , bump your ISO , get a decent shutter speed.
if dark u can pull back the exposure.. so the EV part is important.
set to the right amount, not too much from either + or -

When it state "weather sealed", what's the definition of it? The body of it will be able to withstand moisture, rain, snow, etc.?

CY, how do you shoot wedding in a ballroom? Example when the bridegroom moving from one table to another table for yum seng? When I fire them with bounce flash (ceiling since it's not high) or using diffuser (the DFD), the back of the image will be darkened as if there's no light. What can I do to bring them up?

I'm afraid if I used big aperture, some of the details may be blurred out. Still did not have much idea which f value to use when shooting. Right now, I use f/8 for big group shot. Small group will be like f/4~5.6.

SS lowest I set to 1/60.

how many mm you will be using ? f8 is too much isn't it ?
even f5.6 can get the right amount of DOF but depends on where you stand also biggrin.gif

Just to show you the background is still well lit:

Nikon D90
Focal length 18mm
SS 1/30s
Aperture f3.5
ISO 800
Metering Matrix
SB600 i-TTL flash

If the background is dark, use longer SS.

I think there are pros and cons having the background lit or dark. If background sometimes it dark enough, it is good to isolate the subject matter from the busy background, where bokeh is not an option.

Lit background will give the viewer a feel of having the flash and the background equally exposed, as if no flash were being used, provided you tune the WB correctly.

You must understand... your flash is to light up your subject only. You cannot expect it to be lighting up the entire ballroom.

For ambient light, your metering is the one that determines it. Go lower shutter, smaller aperture, or higher ISO to compensate.

This is where understand and practical experience on exposure comes into play. Learning how to mix existing exposure with foreground flash from your flashgun is crucial to get the best lighting.

My advice, always always always take a test shot before hand. Check your picture to ascertain whether ambient exposure is enough. If not, crank up that Exposure Compensation(EC) up to +1 or +2. Once that's done, it's time to check your flash settings. Play around with the Flash Exposure Compensation(FEC) to get the optimum output. Take a test shot with a friend or something and try TTL @ let's say 8 feet away. Adjust the power accordingly. Then ask your friend to move back a bit to let's say 14 feet. Try increasing the power until you get the correct power.

So when it's time for a group shot, you probably can know how much power to use.

You gotta understand DOF more bro.

What focal length were you using? At 18mm the DOF is large enough, so even at it's widest aperture of f/3.5(assuming you're using a kit lens) can get everyone into focus. If you're using a UWA at let's say 11mm, even at f/2.8 you still can get everyone in focus since DOF big as well smile.gif

Ditto, if you're talking about 18mm f/4 is sufficient already. If you're shooting a really big crowd, you would be quite a distance from subject, dof with f/4 ~f/5.6 is sufficient.
