Facebook is well known for the notorious compression, so if you upload high ISO pic, the noise becomes more apparent because it starts to lose picture definition even more. Even on my D90, when my pic is more than ISO 800, the noise starts to become very noticeable. Perhaps some noise reduction in Lightroom or Photoshop should help a bit. This was shot at ISO 1600, no flash, on 18-105 kitlens @105mm f/5.6 and after some noise reduction processing, uploaded to Facebook with High Quality option. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by geekster129: May 30 2011, 12:26 PM

QUOTE(vearn27 @ May 29 2011, 03:24 PM) Is there any battery meter on the SB-900? I don't know what's the battery level now but I shot over 700+ photos set it as fill flash, still can go on. Anyway, I reached the "Thermal Cut-out" indicator like 5~6 times today . Really panicked as the flash is not able to fire and the first time it happen when the bridegroom reached the moment to open the bride's room door I pushed my ISO to 3200 but yet to get "acceptable" frame. Later on the flash regained and just in time to capture the moment he open the door~ phews! Thanks again for not happening during family shot and kissing moment. How you guys managed to control the heat of the flashgun? Just turn off the "Thermal Cut-out" and shot only? Anyway, it was a very good experience today. The situation changed where I become the OP because my friend is busy and the other photographer (friend too) absent. It's kind of important to lead them indirectly where then you'll be able to capture some good frames. Indeed flashgun bring photography to another level. I compared between my shots and my friend using the same body and same lens, that's whole lot more different! Thanks to everyone that helped me out for it with advise and sharing experience It's good to hear you have a good head start in wedding photography. Keep up the good work, and you will be able to get a hang of it pretty fast.

QUOTE(vearn27 @ May 31 2011, 12:41 AM) Shooting apa kat mana? Well, I always resize the photos to 720px before I upload them. Hmm... photo quality does degraded, however it's very minimal and usually only losing sharpness instead of gaining noise. Thanks geekster129 I just reviewed the photos and gonna say it's just so-so only. Can't expect much from my first time shooting and without much proper practice of shooting and usage of flashgun. It's kind of interesting and fun as always need to adjust the flash head when taking photo . Gotta push myself a little more to do more shooting to gain more skills and experience. Really need all the gurus here tunjuk ajar sikit BTW, if I'm to look for one decent lens to cover up wedding photography, which one could it be? I remember I read a lot of people recommending 70-200 from this forum. However, in tight area like the place I shoot last weekend, 70-200 even on FX will be very limited as the place is small, perhaps 24-70 then? What would you guys recommend for my next target to get? Tighter lens is good if you're trying to isolate your subject, especially when you're shooting the bride, and showing her dress, and the accessories. Wider lens is good when you want to add in more context to your shots, sometimes you may want to include the guests into the frame or the background in a particular scene that you can tell a bigger picture on what was happening in the frame. It can add some drama to your shots as well. This post has been edited by geekster129: May 31 2011, 12:00 PM

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Jun 1 2011, 12:37 AM) Plan changed on my side, most likely I wouldn't be joining as I got another wedding to shoot on Saturday. Wish me luck and will practise to learn more This photo may not favour the subject. Remember, as CY mentioned before also, female usually very typical and particular about their skin tone and body shape. I'm not sure about others, but somehow I see her legs like " gigantic" from my point of view. It would be better to skip such frame or you move up higher to shoot at a higher angle. "Thing near to the lens will look big and thing far from the lens will look small" - quoted from Nigel Barker. Why not consider SB-700? Impressive photo I understand exactly what you are trying to share. Therefore, if I'm looking for one good lens to invest to pair it up with my D7000 with crop-factor, that would be 24-70 if I wanted FX lens, otherwise the DX King? What's the current market rate for 24-70? In your case, there's already a sub-forum called : Showcase Yup. I vote for 24-70 as well.

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Jun 5 2011, 02:32 AM) Just settled down in front of my laptop bathed after a day of shooting. My legs struggling near the end of the wedding dinner My 2nd time of wedding photography and within a week. Slightly improved, but not much and still got lots more to learn. I'm having difficulty getting the right lighting for ballroom with flash. The far end become darken What should I do in this kind of situation? D Cup referring to shape of boob, not necessarily be big. Unless measurement big then lain cerita la. Anyway, I don't think D Cup walk also can jatuh type. That should be either E or F with measurement 38 and above gua... You're exhausted, and I have just waken up preparing for the AD shooting now. I think you need to drag your shutter speed down slower in order to capture more ambient light and balance it up with your flash. But this at the expense of the blurry image if your subject matter if moving fast, so use it with caution.

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Jun 5 2011, 11:28 AM) AD? Step down my shutter speed or step up the ISO? Hmm... then what aperture setting will be recommended to capture the table of people when the bridegroom going from one table to another? AD= Actual Day. Drag down the shutter means use a low ss. As for the aperture, depends on what you want. Like if yam seng part you want.wide shot and get the guests into the context then you need to use smaller aperture to have sharper focus, else larger aperture if you want to bokeh out the background and single out the subject matter.

Just done. Took me some effort to tune my brain to wedding mode again since I've last shot 3 months ago and has been shooting a lot of portraiture lately Added on June 5, 2011, 1:42 pmI just realized sb600 got high speed sync. This post has been edited by geekster129: Jun 5 2011, 01:42 PM

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Jun 5 2011, 06:33 PM) When it state "weather sealed", what's the definition of it? The body of it will be able to withstand moisture, rain, snow, etc.? CY, how do you shoot wedding in a ballroom? Example when the bridegroom moving from one table to another table for yum seng? When I fire them with bounce flash (ceiling since it's not high) or using diffuser (the DFD), the back of the image will be darkened as if there's no light. What can I do to bring them up? Can you share with us the settings of the photo that you have "back of the image will be darkened as if there's no light"?

I think there are pros and cons having the background lit or dark. If background sometimes it dark enough, it is good to isolate the subject matter from the busy background, where bokeh is not an option.
Lit background will give the viewer a feel of having the flash and the background equally exposed, as if no flash were being used, provided you tune the WB correctly.

QUOTE(four_add @ Jun 6 2011, 07:37 PM) even with the lowest aperture of my kit lens (18-105), I still find it to be underexposed when shooting kids. or do I need to grab 50mm/35mm 1.8G for this purpose (subject moving in low light condition) ? f/3.5 is just too small, fast prime lens is there for a reason (fast means you can shoot at higher SS at low light condition). Between f/3.5 and f/2.8 there is already 2/3 extra stops which is close to double the amount of light you can get. At f/1.8 you can get 2 extra stops.
