be extra carefull when keeping marimo in planted tank especially if u use liquid additive to the tank such as flourish excel cos they might be harmful for algae and moss... dont forget marimo is also a moss...

This is a wrong statement, fake marimos not necessary to be float can be sink as well, it happen that there is a fake marimo made up from a drain moss and roll in round form. This type of marimo will sink all the time and one thing very easy to differentiate with the genuine marimo is that, their growth rate superb fast (u can see significant grow in a week)

Yes, correct bro, this one most of the mistake where user put the treatment liquid that reduce the algae problem in the tank, but they forgot actually marimo is type of algae

Just wondering is it normal for them to open up, i notice some of them have a point where they'd open up and when you press them back they won't stick and will easily split when in water.

And is it normal that some of their hair come off?

Also the brown greenish parts will they come off or will they turn green if recovered? How to tell if they cannot be saved?

something to look for if, you cant get/buy marimo in ure area, they constantly die in ure care or you just have a few cash to spare;

Just to share, I haven't changed the water for my marimo for more than 3 months, no smelly water, no brownish and it's just as healthy.

may we know the water temp?

not within the 3 months. just to share btw, no worries if you really no time to change the water.

room temperature around 20'c to 26'c, no direct sunlight.

how about putting in the fridge for 3 months? XD my fridge inside got light source, if i keep one inside it no nid to come out XD

no wonder... water seems to be less spoilt compared to high temp tank...

dear all

my marimos start to have brown patches all over them.
I tried washing them but the brown patches still there
I change their water once a week.

Any advices?

i quarantine it,
put it in a basket, filled with mineral water, add a tiny pinch of salt
then put in a place with low-medium lighting and cool place.
putting in a refrigerator might help, if the fridge got an on 24/7 LED bright cool daylight specs.

Results after 3 months:
less and less brown patch on my super giant marimos..lol..
i dont put them in fridge, parents wont let me, so put them in fish tank with xtra fan cooler and pinch of table salt(without iodine)
