hi guys,
need to ask, been doing some 'experiments'(actually not experiment la..lol) with my 5 giant morimos for a few months already..

1)before this, im using mineral water and changed it every week but now since i transfered all my marimos into a my community fish tank,
they seemed, well, less fresh than before.
is it bcos if the water quality and the mineral properties inside the water itself that makes my marimo like this?

2)also, i just changed to a led type lamp for the morimos, but they(the 2 largest ones) starting to have a little bit brown spot on them.
should i use normal flourescent lamp and how get rid of those brown patches? scared they are dying... NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

3) when can a giant morimo split itself to produce a new baby morimo?

thanx

How often u do water change for the community tank? what's the temperature?

Do u always rotate the marimo? i believe brown patches also related to 1) above

3) when can a giant morimo split itself to produce a new baby morimo?
Not necessary it hv to be a giant. if u can see a bump on any of your marimo, sooner or later the bump part will drop of and there you go, your new baby marimo...

thanx

Hi all!!

I got a problem here. I noticed theres a light brown to pinkish 1inch long worm at my marimo ball. Anyone had this issue?

Anyway of making sure those marimos are free from worms?

I'd tried to catch it but it sinked back into marimo once it sensed dangers.

I also noticed, my nice marimo has opened up leaving an empty hole in the middle and smelt like rottened vegetables but it still looks very green at the moment.

Thanks

well, it happens to me usually after i washed them and and squeeze them, some will float and some will just sink like brick.
but after a few days, they all just drop to the bottom. (must be the all the water filled inside i guess)
also, the big ones always float a few days before going down in my case

small bottles can get from gift stores, they sell things like mini sand bottle or sumthing, can use that too. check RM1-10 shop too haha

Hi everyone!

Has anyone had any success in treating marimos with brown spots? Do they lose the brown and grow back to green? My healthy green ones recently had brownish spots, and I've read about putting salt and doing fridge spa.. but I need to hear stories of successful treatment for comfort. sad.gif

i believe quite a number of marimo owner here do the fridge spa occasionally eventhough no sign of brown spot... so i believe it really works... LeeYung also had mentioned this quite a number of times... by the way, no harm trying as the origin of marimo are cold water... i'm starting to do it (they are in my fridge now)... jsut remember that never put in the freezer part... smile.gif

be extra carefull when keeping marimo in planted tank especially if u use liquid additive to the tank such as flourish excel cos they might be harmful for algae and moss... dont forget marimo is also a moss...

Hey bro, no worries, floating or sinking depends on the marimos condition, first post FAQ do mentioned about that smile.gif Do have a read on there, and do let me know if you still have any doubt smile.gif

This is a wrong statement, fake marimos not necessary to be float smile.gif can be sink as well, it happen that there is a fake marimo made up from a drain moss and roll in round form. This type of marimo will sink all the time and one thing very easy to differentiate with the genuine marimo is that, their growth rate superb fast (u can see significant grow in a week)

Hey bro, how are you? long time no c u here ler, btw ur T5 is UV one or not? that is the possibility for UV T5 causing the brownish issue.

Yes, correct bro, this one most of the mistake where user put the treatment liquid that reduce the algae problem in the tank, but they forgot actually marimo is type of algae biggrin.gif
