Hi.. does anyone know if media player (realtek 1185 chipset) could detect usb 3.0 thumbdrive?
since the usb port is usb 2.0 standard.. wonder if the power requirement is not met..
any users can share their experience?

I have a familiy member using usb3.0 hdd connecting to the usb2.0 port of his media player, it works fine. It has nothing to do with the chipset I think, so long as the external HDD has downwards 2.0 compatibility (most devices usually complies)..

i would assume that the usb3.0 hdd is the 2.5" one (without power supply).. if it is, then should be no problem with thumbdrive too.. thx rclxms.gif

I use my WD Passport SE with the HiMedia HD900A(1186+) and HD200A(1055+). All ok!

Hi all,

I am using HD600A, upgraded to but the color seems too dark compare to previous version.

Anyone upgraded to latest firmware? Any setting need to be configure? Or which firmware is 'best' in term of stability and video quality?

Been using HD600f for a few days now.. got several points to share:

1. Not all usb 3 thumbdrive supported (my transcend jf700 cannot detect, but my kingston data traveller ultimate no prob)
2. No problem with ext hdd.. but recommend to enable "safe shutdown" to safeguard your hdd.
3. Still figuring out how to use the build in youtube app though.. got copyright error or something when trying to play any video..
4. Upgraded the firmware from 6.17 to 7.28.. did not notice anything different except extra "favourite" icon.. whistling.gif

I am using Himedia HD910a with maxis fiber 10Mbps. I cant stream online movie from Hitv 2.0, I have tried Hitv -> pptv, the speed is only 5kbps when streaming online.

I have no problem using ipad -> pptv to stream online. Himedia problem? or Maxis Fiber problem?

I have tried LAN connection with cat5e cable and also the wifi connection on Himedia, both also giving the extreamly slow connection (5kbps).

I intend to buy two more media player, if this problem is due to Himedia then I will go for another brand.

performance of Himedia's hitv is pretty poor, if you read their forum, there are many dissapointed buyers whom mostly hope to watch movies via streaming method.

But then again, why buy this for streaming purpose?? like you said, you might as well use the ipad to stream the movies and connect your ipad to the lcd... I just cannot agree buying himedia just to stream online movies...it is 1)slow ;2) shitty quality (you get mostly CD or DVD quality online)..

I cant get full screen on iPad.

Do you mean, the picture quality is CD or DVD when I stream online but when I download the movie the picture quality is HD format?

Hello. Im new here and own a Hi media 910A. I bought this to replace a Popcorn Hour B110 from 2008. I expected a lot from the 910A due to the newer chipset and many extra features but am let down by its non ability to play 3D files and other HD files with HD audio, played via the network or directly from a usb3 drive directly connected.
I upgraded my network to 10/100/1000 recently and this has made no difference. Support for this product is as bad as it was from Popcorn Hour with the B110. I have gone back to the B110 as it plays all the files the 910A refuses to play correctly, via the network. Himedia need to support their products.

Thank you for your reply. Titanic 3D is one title that has audio drop out when played from a BMDV folder or a rip to M2TS, .ts or .mkv with DTS MA audio. All these files play perfect on my 5 year old Popcorn Hour B110 that has a 100mb network. The B110 will not play the BMDV folder directly, one reason I upgraded. Himedia need to fix this issue that many others report, but they dont seem willing to do so. I wont make a Chineese purchase again.

yes, for streaming those hd file use samba or nfs is not good de, but if u play from hdd should be no problem de..maybe u should try other "english purchase" which player same use realtek 1186 chipset see wuts the result then say it is chipset issues or himedia problem..

Popcorn Hour B110 price at least treble than 910a, even more than 4 years but hardware spec still is better de, like rm300+ price range 910a can support 3d file(even ori 3d iso file) n current mostly hd flie n hd audio, also directly play BDMV or ISO file from external hdd..this price can do those function is quite good ady (dnt expect it can do eveything)

i also have a Popcorn Hour C200 at home, yes it audio output is great, but now quite lot bd file can not decode ady, but 910a all can support..

u maybe can wait the new sigma chipset player which can support 3d file, i heard it coming soon ady....

Ok, a colleague recommended this HiMedia brand of media player. We would like one, to play 3D and HD movies on our TV. Can you recommend something?

We dont need all those complicated capabilities because our neighbourhood is still on Streamyx 1Mbps only (no Unifi) so streaming is out of the question.

Feature that we want:
Realtek 1186 chipset
USB 3.0 (will be copying movies from friends via WD My Passport USB3)
HDMI (to the TV, of course)

Thanks for the info.
I am also interested to get a Realtek 1186 player because I have MKV with DTS HDMA audio. After reading your comment, I'm now very worried. Does this audio drop out issue happen to all 1186 players?

I use the HD900A for more than a year already and so far I didn't experience the audio drop out issue from the BDMV or BD-ISO . Instead, my Dune HD D1 can't stream some of the HD audio from my M2TS file while HD900A can bit-stream the same file without problem..
