ok thanks could't find any options in ES Eplorer to format it. Didn't want to plug and unplug to another system to format. No choice have to do it one of these days.

2/16gb android7 would be min at this time, imo.

Ethernet port is best for fastest stable connection, but if yr speed is good, box wifi module is good and yr router is good, quite ok too.
E.g. i get good live tv in hd with an old box 60ft away from router, no problem.

Internal hdd slot is useful if u want to keep yr own collection there, convenient for playback.
It is also very useful if u download big files with box direct into the hdd.
This feature, if u want it, only exist with 3 or 4 models in the market, incl himedia q10pro.
However, i am reluctant to suggest it to u since i do not know yr details like speed, yr files, audio requirements, yr tv, home theater.
That is, if u dont need the advanced features, it can be an overkill, waste of money.
Also, the internal hdd needs a procedure to format... if u just buy, u may not know how to do it.

Some apps are fussy... some box makers are just as fussy with their own proprietory firmware secrets, or just lousy firmwares.
So, some apps dun work on some boxes.
U read about rooting... as if rooting is some black magic to cure all such problems.
Rooting is to allow the user to deal with certain specific things, not to make apps work or not work.

Buying yr 1st box, do read 1st 2 pages of the androidbox thread.
Read the info n comments against what u r looking for.
There is no one box fits all.
I spent enough time there, but not anymore.
Becos most discussions are centered on cheap boxes which i am not a fan of.

Actually I owned a media player since 2012 which is still working fine until now, just not running in Android OS.
Most of the time I watch offline movies with 2TB HDD inside, resolution just only up to 1080p without True HD audio.

With my new TIME broadband, so I plan to upgrade and start survey on a new TV Box

I checked the price and found Himedia Q10 Pro has range from RM4xx until RM9xx, what's the different?

those are great boxes from the past, kings of their days, many still operating today, albeit their obsolescence.
since 7 years ago, android boxes entered the market with online streaming, networking and playback features - killed these boxes.

i can now understand your want of an internal HDD slot since u will want to transfer the old HDD over to a new box.
yes, u can, i did that w/o hassle; however, i also know of cases where the HDD could not be read but needed a reformat.
i do not know the details but i wud think if the HDD was originally formatted well, it will work when transferred to q10pro.

the online prices u see can vary a lot depending on seller, but should be around rm600.
keep in mind overseas sellers may be difficult when it comes to warranty and support.

some sellers may have old stock (q10pro is almost 2 yrs old already), still on old firmware, android5.
the same box can be updated to android7 via a prescribed series of firmware updates.

there is no need to root to install apps... just sideload with the apk's in the usb drive.... simple.
in fact, many of the good apps are not found in playstore, u get them via pc.
note rooting will void yr warranty immediately.
rooting such a box is an over rated and rather futile exercise, imo.

now that i know yr situation a bit - an old sata hdd, hv used media box before, getting good internet soon - q10pro is a good choice for you.
and if u get a 4k tv, a new AVR, new files, the box can deliver superb video and audio results for playback.
similarly, with good speed, u can stream all kinds of good stuff online.

lastly, if u really want to go for it, be prepared it will take quite a bit of work, time, patience and even help to make it work well.

I'm ok to reformat my old sata, is not a big deal, if my new Adroid TV Box without 3.5" bay inside, I still can get external enclosure or docking to access by USB or plug into NAS to access by Gigabit LAN. About 4K TV, maye one day will upgrade. My old Denon AVR still working for now, no plan to upgrade yet Install apss from PC or USB thumbdrive, should no issue for me.

Yeah, I know this docking.
I have no doubt Q10 Pro in video and audio quality, how about if 3D games?
Even I'm not gamer, if can enjoy some fun games then it will be a "plus".
Can I play well with certain mid-end 3D games where installed in 3.5" HDD storage?
Or the box only allow install apps/games in internal storage?

oh, I'm not mean to those 3D that need to watch with 3D glasses, just only normal 3D games for example Racing Car game, Call of duty, Nova...etc

Q10pro... a tip for those using kodi quasar with path set to internal HDD...

kodi quasar on q10pro can only deliver DD and DD+ audio, can't do dts and higher.

if quasar is your thing, try utorrent app from playstore.

u can select link magnet and play direct with this app; like quasar, no need to wait for completion.

the good news is with native player or MXpro player, u can get dts, dtshdma, ddtruehd audio as well.

and get online subs too.

of course, above is assuming u have good speed and yr hdd has sufficient storage.

100mbps, can do 10-20gb files, nice!

Recently I have some issue with my Himedia Q10 pro which installed with WD 3TB blue hard drive. Current with 2.0.7 firmware.

1) When startup -> Media Player -> Choose any MKV movie and play. After playing feel minutes suddenly turn blank. You need to back to choose movie menu and replay again. Again same issue happen. After a while only it back to normal playing the movie from start to end. It like require warm up to play smooth?
2) Sometime login to the main menu, the startup menu when to default whereby my customer add-on app shortcut no longer there. Even resolution also turn into 1080p instead of 4k.
3) What is the best tweak or video/audio option for playing on 4K HDR LGTV? What the current FPS for the TV?

possibly yr files in the HDD corrupted or the HDD itself is damaged.

try:

.. play same files with file manger, not media center.
.. plug into pc, play with pc.

u then hv some idea what's wrong.

if necessary, flash the box, reinstall firmware.

Will test playing with VLC and see how. All files was great as mention it just jump blank few times then it will play flawless. Feel like need warm up in order to get smooth playing.

What about below 2 issues anyone facing?

No, it does not need a warm up to play properly. If the issue isn't the files themselves cuz encoding... Bla bla...I suggest you better take AVFAN's last advice and reflash the latest firmware and a factory reset after that, just in case. As for best tweak for your TV.. You are better off FIRST calibrating your TV for optimal natural color reproduction. Then only begin messing around with the HiMedia Q10 Pro. FPS is a whole other ball game as it depends on several factors.. Fix core problem first.

2.
app short cuts do not just disappear... u must have accidentally deleted it or is hidden along the long row (use a mouse to drag).
resolution will fall back to 1080p, 1080i once u use some app that is not compatible with 2160p/xx hz setting u set.
use only playback, it will stay there.

3.
4k hdr tvs comes in all shapes n sizes, some allows more settings, some less.
this has been discussed at least 3 times in this thread, with links to explain the tech about such things... pls search.
in short, ycbcr 420 is good enough for all common ripped videos; nothing to gain even if u set higher.
the higher settings are only useful for static or professional camera videos.

I have the Q10 Pro and Minix Air Mouse ... I can't seem to use the Minix air mouse to switch off or put the Q10 on standby. Other buttons and functions no issue. What's the issue?

Also, is it okay to leave the Q10 on standby 24 hours, meaning not powering it off.

it's normal... any airmouse cannot power the box off or on.

it doesn't get hot... but why leave it on 24/7 to waste electricity and incr wear n tear?
